The family in the first story is DISGUSTING. When her parents told her they would go no contact if she didn't get over it, she should have been like "good! Bye!"

It is EXTREMELY common for people that try to end themselves to have instant regret because it is a permanent solution to temporary problems. Their chosen methods can be very painful, scary etc. and it is very difficult to save yourself at that point as well, which can also cause panic! It can make your thoughts rush at high speed and make you suddenly aware of how many things have solutions you've just been too overwhelmed to see and that can make you regret everything, while only luck may save you at that point. Not everyone will survive what they did.
If it was a PLOY, she likely wouldn't have waited for strangers to show up - people that attempt to end themselves for attention are usually not seriously trying to die and make people aware so they will always be 'saved' or simply PRETEND to be in a dire situation then turn their phone off for 8 hours straight.
People in a suicidal mindset are often self-centered and can't SEE the outside perspective as their own is so consuming. They think it is selfless of them to remove themselves from the world and are usually not able to perceive the level of pain it will inflict on others or how traumatising i]t will be to others.
When people jump in front of trains or stand there, it is TRAUMATISING for the train drivers as they literally cannot stop fast enough to prevent the death that they can see is coming, while the person who wants to die, just knows it will be quick. They're not thinking to what happens afterwards.

The first story: OP eventually went NC with the family and later moved away. She reconnected with an old friend and said friends friendgroup. Also going by her updates she is currently in a happy relationship. The sister and the stepmom at least did apologize.

What the op means by ploy is, some sociopaths and narcissist definitely do use suicide as a last attempt to manipulate people around them, this happens very often. Sometimes they didn't mean to kys and are successful, sometimes they just hurt themselves to diff degrees and their manipulation attempt succeeds or not. This is not all people that commit or try to commit suicide, just people with personality disorders.
