I’ve grown calabrese in my polytunnel over winter in uk. It works well and still grows side shoots. Also it matures very slowly unlike the summerharvests. Lovely video thank you.
Ooh that sounds great, when do you sow them for overwintering?
@@gardenonthemoors can’t remember exactly but I think august.
Great stuff. I just planted calabrese broccoli for the first time this year. I went ahead and did direct sowing in April and just poured half of the packet in a row. When they came up, I eventually thinned them and will be eating all the lovely broccoli sprouts that got thinned out.
Oh fantastic! You'll have lots of tasty broccoli before long then 😋
A brilliant video from sowing seeds to harvesting, great tips and reminder to sow in succession, something I do, but could do more of 😂
Thank you Amir! Glad you enjoyed the video 🙂
Great. I'm growing broccoli for the first time this year
Fantastic! Good luck 🤞
Great sowing steps for broccoli, good stuff!
Thanks very much! Glad you enjoyed the video 😁
Fab I haven’t done any brassicas yet I’m concentrating on getting my flowers sown. Good luck with your gardening this year, enjoy and have a wonderful weekend, Ali 🥶🇨🇦
Oh well it's always good to have a plan! Thank you, you too 😊
I don't know if i missed it - Was the February sowing done in a cold greenhouse?
Great video by the way!
Thank you! Yes, unheated 🙂
A great video thanks for sharing
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed the video 😀
I love that your video actually showed everything from seed to harvest - an entire season, and beautifully done. I'll be trying to make the same kind of videos on my channel, so I know it must have taken a great deal of organization and discipline to make it happen. I've subscribed and look forward to seeing more of your inspiring content.
Thanks so much! I love seeing the change over the seasons, it's surprising how much they grow in such a short space of time!

Thank you very much! Glad you enjoyed the video 😊
Are leafy parts eatable?
Yes they are indeed! Although the best part is definitely the broccoli head 😋
Funny i’m going for calabrese this year as i got irritated by sprouting broccoli
We love Calabrese in this house, I do get the appeal with PSB but I don't think I could keep them pest free for that long!
@@gardenonthemoors I, going to follow your planting schedule and see how well i do 😁
Fantastic! Best of luck 😁
Broken egg shells stop slugs.
Yes! We have a few hens so will have to start making better use of their egg shells 😁
Wasted a lot of seeds my friend not sure why don’t remove them and plant the one you pull they do fine transplanting
You're quite right, although I only have a small amount of space for them, max 15 plants, which I want a succession of across the season and so need different sowing dates. Each seed is inexpensive and this method means that the few I do grow are the strongest and most robust I can get.
I do transplant the outcasts if a trio in a separate pot hasn't germinated, has failed due to slugs or are weak in growth, so they are also my insurance policy 😊
Hope that helps!
