  • If you like stack trains, intermodal shipments, containers, and trailers, then you might like this HO scale spine car model from Bowser. This 3 unit car can carry either trailers or containers, or a mix of both. Dan evaluates this model train's packaging, prototype accuracy, paint & detail, and how well it operates and conforms to applicable standards. Dan also tries the car out with some Walthers trailers and containers from Athearn, Kato, and Walthers. If you're a fan of modern era railroading you won't want to miss this one!

    Just found your channel. Subscribed. I just bought a 3 pack car from a vendor at the Great Scale Train Show to go with the 5 car I have had for years. Runs great with 53’ loads. Going to put 53’ containers on these versus trailers with wheels. Great tip to remove the hitch but want to point out that when i measure out the L shaped pieces that need to be glued into the wheel base they need to be installed to create the shortest distance between to line up to pins on the containers. The reverse of what the video says and shows. 7.5’ using a scale ruler.

      Thanks for the correction on the hitch removal. I'm glad you liked the video. I have one of the 5 unit cars too, but I haven't really had a chance to look at it much yet. Thanks for watching and subscribing!

    Id agree, the cars at that price point shouldn't be damages. Also, with the well cars I have it seems very easy to break the stanchions on the ends. Thanks for the review

      Catching up on comments... absolutely. I like it better when small delicate things like grab irons are made of metal. Thanks for watching!

    Great review Dan , I think buying these in N Scale but I saw that Atlas had these and they sold out pretty quick. Not to worry there making another sets of three and five sets.

      It's always nice when manufacturers re-run cars that people are likely to want again, or want multiples of. Thanks for watching!

    Hey Dan Thanks for Posting these cars although there HO I believe there Are N scale spine Cars that are still Available, I wanted to pass on to ya on Model Trainstuff they are a Good Model Train Store company but they tend to sometimes restock things that has been purchased and sent back to them I purchase a 3 car Athern Tank Set it was the Last one they had in stock the Cars has serious issues with the Trucks & 2 of the cars had broken pieces on the Tanks I alerted the Manager of this he let me send them back I didn't get a replacement but I was able to exchange a Microtrains Car set that was near the Value of the Athern set I purchased I sent the Tank set back and 8 Days later it was back on there Internet sales website.. The set sold again a few Days later.. Just wanted to pass that along to ya And I cant wait to see more Reviews...

      I wasn't aware that they did that. As far as I can tell, everything I've gotten from them so far has been new. If a store does sell refurbished or restocked items, they should at least say that in the product description. Thanks for watching!

    Nice review Dan! These spine cars look excellent. How are these compared to the Athearn RTR spine cars?

    • @DanielCortopassi
      @DanielCortopassi  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I don't have any of the Athearn spine cars so I can't compare them directly. If Athearn does another run and I can get my hands on one, I'll review it. Thanks for watching!

      They were in the "New" products area at Model Train Stuff, which I check often, so yes, I believe so. Thanks for watching!

    Interesting that it's a TTAX usually those are 5 pack spines and the 3 packs are TTRX.

      Hmm. I went back to rrpicturearchives.net, where I found the photos of this car, and the description says "5 platforms". I missed that when doing the review. None of the photos show the entire car. If it's true then that's disappointing, and the car would get another -5 for prototype accuracy. Thanks for catching that!

    • @DanielCortopassi
      @DanielCortopassi  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Okay, I'm going to correct my correction because I was looking at the wrong car number. The info for TTAX 355112 says 3 platforms.

      I would agree with that, just looked up the UMLER and it does indeed show with 3 units. Learn something new everday!

      Most model trains are produced in batches these days, and they often sell out quickly. Sometimes you can find them on eBay, or wait for for Bowser to do another run. Most manufacturers seem to re-run their freight cars every so often. Thanks for watching!

    I can't find any clear NMRA weight specs for articulated cars, I just add 1/2 oz. of weight to the trailer or container and call it good.

    • @DanielCortopassi
      @DanielCortopassi  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't think there is a specific spec for articulated cars. You can either evaluate each section individually like I did, or I suppose you could take the overall length of the assembled car and evaluate the entire thing together. Thanks for watching!
