what does the black card in the beginning do? Also why do the dealer put his cards underneath that black plastic thing when he has a face value card?

The color of the card is not important(it can be any color) - the rule is that a player has to cut the shuffled decks in order to start the game. The black "peep-hole" has a little mirror underneath. When dealer has a face card or an Ace up s/he inserts the card in a "peep-hole" and can see if it is a Blackjack and opens the cards right away not to waste any more cards if the player has a losing hand(s).
