I’m watching this on my phone after leaving a hospital appointment given the all clear, the sun is blazing hot, I’m sipping on some lemon ice tea and life is good. Be kind everyone, and you will get it back in abundance. ❤️💛💚
I met Gary Bartz while he was walking to a gig with McCoy Tyner. I stopped him while in my car, and showed him my Dad’s album I had with me. He was so sweet and told me to come meet after the show, so he could sign the album. One of my favorite music memories!
Amazing! “I’ve Known Rivers” is undoubtedly one of the greatest jazz songs ever recorded, anyone reading this should do themselves a favor and check out the 1973 original recording as well. Bartz has still got it at 83
The IKRAOB album version of I've Known Rivers is my favorite song of all time. I can't put into words how many different unique and complex emotions this one song has helped me with or put me in. This man is hugely underrated
This is so great, sounds of joy and thought, beautiful! I haven't heard anything from Mr. Bartz in a long time, he's hipper than a dream. Many thanks to all playing on this.
💯 Yes! Fujii Kaze and Kirk Franklin also have this wonderfully positive vibe. Gratefulness and selflessness is something we need more of. Burt Bacharach said something similar 50 years ago - we should have listened but instead everyone insisted on his/her individual 'rights' and 'freedoms' and the world is a mess.
To come here and be blessed by "Nommo - The Majick Song (feat. Mumu Fresh)" directly after seeing/hearing Kierra Sheard's Tiny Desk... whew, He knows what I need right when I need it. Thank you, Lord! 🙌🙏
On my way into the office this morning I was wondering what I was to play to set the mood of a Monday. NPR has answered that question for me. And how apropos it is. Thank you yet again Tiny Desk.
Does noone of those young folks know Gary Bartz? Still to less likes for such a hughe artist. At least I'm very thankful to are allowed to see this tiny concert of him. And it is just amazing. He performces so beautiful with 83 years old! This gives me hope to be in a good shape as well in about 40 years.
Soon as I saw the title I grabbed my headphones & clicked wid the swiftness! Gary Bartz who looks fantastic at 83 yo is a living jazz legend. I listen to many of his albums with 'Mudic is my Sanctuary' & 'Harlem Bush Music' being 2 of my absolute favs especially the latter. Thank u Tiny Desk...u guys never cease to amaze. Luv n Light 🙏🏽
Not only does the team at NPR get on great artists, they deliver great visual production and that audio engineering is *chefs kiss* A huge THANK YOU to the NPR team! Love from South Africa!
Gil Scott Heron would have killed the “ Tiny desk”. Rip. A track from the early 80’s called “ Music” was a huge club tune. Check it out if you don’t know it.

A good amount of people are hip to his genius! Gary is player who plays melody almost exclusively, some people don't really get how killin he is.
