    Great simple flat bag for travel. I love it. I will make three and will use a vinyl faux leather I have with and without a liner. Also will adjust the length and width to accommodate my husbands larger shoe and my neighbors size 9 ladies. This size bag will fit my size 6 lighter athletic shoes fine but not my hiking boots. So I will adjust the width and length accordingly and add a few inches both directions for the rectangle cuts. A very easy thing to do. You could make deeper folds for the sides but I like the fold depth you have so no adjustment planned for that. I've been sewing bags and outdoor equipment and tents and down jackets even down sleeping bags for over 50 years. So many designs are my own. I love simple ones and this is grand in it's simple design and it can be laid at the bottom of a travel suit case or even your purse and used later to carry dirty shoes home if needed. Just a wonderful design in it's simplicity. Oh I will add a zipper pocket to the outside of the center of the bottom of the bag for a locker key or watch or some place to store something small during say Gym time or swimming time. And I will add a tab on the other end of the zipper too to help pull and close the zipper both directions. Or make two handles one on each end. Thanks for sharing this easy to make bag.

    I made this hoping it will fit men’s USA size 11-12. It’s too small. It fits my women size 6.5 running shoes.
    I want it to fit a pair of running shoes for men’s USA size 11-12.
    Could you please tell me what the cutting measurements should be , length of zipper, etc?
    I would greatly appreciate your help with this as it’s a birthday gift.
    Thank you for a great instructional video ! 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻

    Lovely idea and I’ve just finished making mine for an adult male and it doesn’t even fit one man’s shoe in let alone two. Are the measurements given for kids shoes. Can you advise what measurements I need to increase to for a man’s pair of shoes please? Very disappointed as the overall idea is great. Thanks

    • @lasinmt106
      @lasinmt106 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Measure around your shoes you need to fit into a bag. Measure around the length. Then measure around the width of two shoes side by side. Divide both numbers by 2. Now add 2 inches to the width and 3 inches to the length. Those numbers actually will give you four inches extra around and six inches extra in length which helps with the ease in and out of the bag not just the extra length. You may want to add 3 inches in width not just two. So say your measurement in length all the way around one shoe is 36 inches then divide by 2 means 18" add the 3 extra inches and you'll cut out in length 21". Then the Width is say for 2 shoes side by side 40 inches divide by 2 and add 2 to 3 more inches for easing in and out of zipper opening. That means you cut 22 by 21" which of course is less than shown here. I have no way of telling the size of your guy's shoes. That'll be on you to determine. Also I would probably add 4 inches in depth making it an additional 8 total longer and up to 4 even 5 inches in width making it an additional 8 to 10 inches around for other shoes or boots you might want to carry in the tote. If you are going to go so big you might want to include a pocket on the outside like a small zipper pocket on the flat back side which you would include before you begin construction of the bag making it centered at the start. Anyway realize the volume of what shoes you are making a bag for helps you figure out the volume and flat size to cut by but remember you'll need more than that for ease of putting in the shoes and making sure other shoes with say boot ankle collar will also fit like a short athletic ankle boot. A mans shoe size could get very large. Over 50 years ago I had a lovely shoe bag I never used as a shoe bag that was my favorite gift at age 16 for Xmas. In college my brother borrowed it against my saying NO and my mother told him he could...poor fellow insisted he needed a bag for his Gym clothes and shoes for swimming class. I told him and my mother you are told DO NOT use anything but a paper bag to carry clothes in as someone is stealing belongings and bags if they are nice. And there are huge signs up in the MSU swim gym saying so. So sure enough it was stolen the very first time he used it. Which taught him a lesson but lost my lovely sweet bag. It basically was a small vinyl box bag about 15" long by 5" square and single zipper across and down the ends a ways. So my brothers size 9 shoes fit well in that bag along with his T-shirt and shorts at the time. I think by measuring the length and width all the way around and dividing each by two then adding more inches into that figure for ease should work well no matter if you are making this flat carry bag or a fancier box bag with or without interfacing for structure should get you what you need. Also look into the double zipper bags that are more like a box bag. But people have no idea what size your male friend wears. A size 9 is far different than my brother in law's size 13 shoe I can tell you that. I would want to measure the full volume it takes up and rounding
      up to nearest inch then adding in the easement that makes sense realistically. You'll want of course to increase length of zipper but if you use a longer zipper you cut it down to size and also zipper by the yard. The great thing with this design is you can use any type of zipper. I have lots of zipper by the yard and variety of #5 pulls in fancy colors and classic solids and with this design I don't have to adjust anything to make allowances for larger or smaller zipper tape any and all will work. Some patterns are very specific to a number 3 zipper and then you have to trim pieces to get them to fit using a wider zipper tape that the #5 works out to be. The more you sew the more you'll start to think out a pattern in advance for knowing if it'll fit. Good luck.

      I have made 4 shoe bags. I use a fat quarter size 18 in x 21 in fabric. Works great. My husband’s size 13 shoes fit. Christine’s Home Affairs you tube channel has a tutorial also but hers are not lined so I combine instruction from both Tendersmile Handmade and hers to make mine but use a larger piece of cloth, precut into the fat quarter.

    what was the shoe size? to adapt it to much bigger shoes for men.

    • @lasinmt106
      @lasinmt106 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No shoe size given. It's a bag for shoes that lies flat when not in use so great for travel. So measure your shoe all the way around in length. Divide by two then add 3-4 inches onto the half measurement. Place two shoes side by side measure all the way around at widest area usually over the ankle area and divide by two then add on 3-6 inches for width easement. That's your rectangle outer fabric and inside lining and of course your zipper will be the direction you want the length to be for the shoes not the width. So above is making the bag longer and zipper and shorter end actually became the length. You'll want to alter that if your shoes are really longer than wider by just applying the zipper to what you want to be the length not the width. Hope this helps. The more you sew this type of item the more you'll start to see how to make your own adjustments and add things l like a small zipper pocket inside or outside before sewing so it'll be centered when finished. A place to store a key or small wallet or watch say if you take to the pool or gym. Anyway good luck to those who need to make a larger bag or want a smaller one too. Volume measurements with easements built in is the key to getting what you want. The lovely with this pattern is all zippers will work without making adjustments for #3, #5 or tooth verses coil. Love that. I also by the way add a handle to both ends of the bag because it helps with closing and opening the zipper. A simple tab will do also. And you can use the tube style ends on the zippers to add a little decoration and make sewing in the zipper easier if that's a problem for your machine. Lots of adaptations can be done with this little flat storing bag.
