  • Thank you for walking along with me. Today we will explore the
    public garden behind the Philadelphia Museum of Art and stroll
    around the grand Federal Mansion on Lemon Hill in Fairmount
    Park. We cap our walk off with massive examples of Art Deco
    industrial buildings and I have arrived safely at my home. I am
    glad you came along.
    ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
    My interest is buying and selling antiques and vintage items
    mostly from the 1920's into the mid 1960's. Thank you for watching.

    I am enjoying these walks so much. I spent the first eight years of my life and visited there for many years. I’ve never seen many of these beautiful places. Gives me a new appreciation for the birthplace of my father and his siblings.

    That was a fun field trip. I like it when you narrate, it's like I have my own personal tour guide. I like to know what I'm looking at and get a bit of a back story. That art deco/gothic (two of my favorite styles BTW) is a show stopper. I believe it may have caused a bit of detached retina for me! I look forward to our next outing.

    Scott, Loved the video! Do you ever walk by those mansions and wonder what it would be like to live there? I always say, " well, we're home kids!" I probably really confused them when they were small! Here in Pittsburgh we have some royalty homes from the likes of Heinz and Frick and Carnegie. (big dreamy old mansions)In our part of the state too old warehouses have become luxury lofts. Love to see your side. The townhouses really speak Philly to me and you really show off your city well! Your love of antiques and Philadelphia's charming neighborhoods go together.

    I believe that beautiful urn had an evergreen planted in it. I’m thinking a conifer. My childhood town had those Victorian homes everywhere! Our house was once used as president Lincoln’s meeting house when he was speaking through Illinois. The rock he stood on was across the street with a plaque. Thank you! I’ve never seen an Art Deco building in any town! 👍

    Wow! You combined some of my favorite things all in one video...nature, history and architecture! We have quite a bit of Art Deco architecture here in Tulsa. My sister lives a few houses down from Frank Lloyd Wright home. One if my favorite things to do when I travel is to drive around the older neighborhoods and see all the buildings and homes of various styles. Thank you for sharing these parts of Philidelphia and their history!

    • @oldcuriosityshop265
      @oldcuriosityshop265  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Ha well parking is fun! I have a few options. I can leave my car in Jersey and just take the train over when every I need to use the car. Or I can pay about $230 a month to park it in a regular designated spot in a lot. Or with a parking permit I can pay 30 bucks a year and park on the street in designated areas on certain blocks. Hey it's city live and it's all I know. Thanks for asking.

    • @Secondwindoregon
      @Secondwindoregon 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think it's intriguing! I have a huge driveway! When I moved here we rented the largest U-Haul truck and trailer you could get and I still had room in this driveway. So that's why that was the first thing I thought about! Hey! If you ever have trouble finding a place to park, you can use my driveway in Oregon anytime. What are friends for?

    That yellow mansion is gorgeous. I bet the inside is amazing also. I would love to know what went on inside back in the day. The grand ole parties and such. It looks like it could have been a grand water fountain. Yes, such a beautiful church. Not for me, I'll take a small home out in the country with a farm any day.

I do hope you are able to go back and take those mansion tours and are able to take us along. There's a fellow who lives in St. Louis who has taken similar tours there but a lot of them won't let him film the insides. He can take photographs, but no videos. I can't understand why. Anyway, I'd love to see the insides. Thanks again for another great video!
