It’s hard to describe the sheer atmosphere of games from the ‘70s. It was all-encompassing in great but ageing stadiums. Hunter Davies has a great book about the ‘71-‘72 season called the Glory Game.

Was at this game as an 8 year old with my father. The evening papers were saying that it would be a hard task to beat the Milan 'keeper. "The Black Spider" Father of Carlo, of course.

As a ten year old sitting at home in Kettering I watched Spurs win the league cup, all the other kids I knew supported Liverpool or United, but it was Spurs for me.By time I was 16 I had found like minded people who supported Spurs,we organised a coach to take us home and away following Spurs. This was the season we were in the 2nd division.I.don’t go anymore due to finances and I’ll health. But I have some great memories, the best one was the 81 cup final.None of the 30+ of us had a ticket but we bribed someone at the turnstiles to let us in for a tenner each. And we won, what memories.COYS.!

I was watching on the East Stand lower tier that night. The match officials were very poor and the amount of time wasting by Milan was extreme. Mullery and Sogliano we’re having a running battle the whole game but the Italian’s red card was a joke decision. Steve Perryman laid the foundations of his legendary status at Spurs that night, what a great player.

The red card was unbelievably harsh. That referee was enjoying waving it a bit too much. Bit of a homer I think!

Wow - was at this game as a schoolboy - I used to sit on the white benches in front of the West Stand Enclosure.

Lacking of impartiallity in referee, comments, and sportivity in accepting defeat by english many times. It could be a great match if Milan retained ball and spurs didn't lose manners. Great quality in both nevertheless.
