what’s your fav prayer plant??
I bought the green Stromanthe, lost it quickly and swore them off until I had some real experience with plant care and now I have about a dozen. 🥰 Listen to her people they are a Joy to have once you understand what they need.
Love your prayer plant collection. All the explanations of each one, was wonderful. What nice plants.
thank you so much!
@@sproutswithjoy your very welcome. Happy Saturday.
This is a lovely video. Both because marantaceae plants are gorgeous but also because they all got a piece of the spotlight and were given a fair representation 😂 I feel like they always get such a bad wrap. They're so similar to alocasia in the sense that you might have to be ok with them dieing down to just roots and tubers while they acclimate but i think they get thrown out too soon when folks get frustrated (which i totally understand). I think few ppl know they do this where it seems like more common knowledge for alocasia. If they die back to nothing, throw a ziplock bag over that puppy, keep it watered and they will come back! They're definitely long-haul effort plants.
My collection started with plants from this family and i learned so much about general plant care, had my patience tested and quickly learned how to manage for pests but it was absolutely worth it!
Thanks for painting these beauties in a fair light!
Thank you so much for your insightful and kind comment!! That's a great way of putting it - they really are like alocasias in that there's a rough patch when you first bring them home, and they can be a little temperamental (particularly over the winter), but if you're stubborn enough with them, they REALLY reward you for it. I feel like it's becoming my mission to persuade people to give these plants a second chance.
I have quite a few and they are my favorites. I hav hm for years. I find that when I get them as cuttings or small plants, they acclimate to my environment and are not problematic. I am surprised that you have problems with the G.insignis. I find it is one of my easier plants. I got a small one as a gift 4 years ago and the leaves are about 18 inches, however, I find it is a slower grower and puts out just a handful of leaves every year. It retains most of its leaves. That last Ctnenanthe that you show is a very fast grower. I grew mine from a cutting with 4 leaves and it is now in an 8 inch pot. I grow most of my Marantaceace in Lechuza pon and all of them are in self-watering pots.
All. Of. This! 😌🙌it's so true that they need about a year to acclimate. i have 8 prayer plants total. my orbifolia and maui queen are my favorites (and biggest boyos). also your silver band and zebrina look amazinggg! there's not that many chances to talk about how awesome calatheas are, so thanks for the video!
I’m so happy that you like them, too! I agree that they don’t get as much love as they deserve 😭💕
Thank you!
love the video! I agree the Ctenanthe is very underrated. I have a baby one that's been exploding with growth all summer. The grey color in the leaves is my favorite!!!
it's such a gorgeous & easygoing plant and I need to see it in more collections. it totally deserves more recognition!!
Love love love this video! 🥰 I think this is my favorite family of plants! Yours are awesome! ❤
yay! I'm so glad! I love them too
My var. maranta looks almost just like yours! Low var and slightly leggy! LOL! The lemon lime maranta (even though mine is being obnoxious atm) is one of my very favorite plants of all time.
yess the lemon lime maranta is so good! I hope he behaves for you again lol!!
I struggle with Marantaceaes. I’ve killed two ornatas, almost killed a triostar that I’m rehabbing now, and I have two lemon limes-one is really struggling I’m trying to bring back and the more established one is adjusting still I believe. I want more but I kinda suck at them Hahaa. Loved this video thank you!!
That’s totally valid!! I hope you find your stroke of luck with them soon-they’re great plants if you can finally get them to behave lol 💀🫠
I’m glad you enjoyed the video!! It was really fun to make 💕
I have also murdered a goeppertia beauty star, for the record 😅😅
@@sproutswithjoy the struggle is real 🤣
