Pete, that is heartbreaking news. We are very sorry the valve spring broke and stopped your MD. But we know you are a great mechanic and will be able to repair/replace parts and have it running again.
Oh Pete, I'm so sorry to see that happen to the tractor you just got done restoring. That's just so tragic. You'll figure it out and get her moving again, I'm sure of it.
Oh no! So sorry, Pete. What a heart break. I bet after a grieving period, you'll be able to tear into it, and find that it's not as bad as you think! Anyway, the red stallion is still beautiful!
We were just up in Ithaca this morning for a swim meet at the college. I wanted to stop by the market to ask about your tractor. I agreed with my wife she said “ don’t bother him because she said I know how I am with something breaks on me” So good luck with your engine. I have learned more about rebuilding from you than anything I have ever worked on.
Boy Pete, that made the pit of my stomach drop hearing that news. Take care and keep moving forward. Maybe that project can wait till winter. Have a great day!
Such a deal! Glad you have backup tractors. Life on the farm I guess. I broke my face shield and have to get another one before I can do some more turning. Working on three small bowls for a friend just now. Looking forward to meeting the new piglets! Thanks Pete.
So sorry to see the MD hurt😭😭😭 and of course with Murphy roaming, always at the time you need it to use. 🙏 with you only minor internal damage. Knowing your dad's knowledge, I'm sure he shut it down immediately if it didn't stop from dropping the valve. Thank you for sharing, this is real life on a farm. Thanks for taking us all along with you, in both ups and downs👍👍👍
N- "I feel bad.." C- This definitely makes me feel sad. The MD is not working..." B- "The spring broke! That's a bad thing. I'm glad Pete has a backup..." Well, there you have it, comments from the guys, genuine and heartfelt. Hang tough. Hay still happens!
Awesome video! Sorry about your Farmall MD breaking. praying that you can fix it easily. you know it is spring time on a your farm when you have little ones being born. i love watching your videos. GOD' Bless your whole Family. Amen. :) :)
I cant say enough about your attitude. And, it is clear to me that you are very genuine, honest guy and it would be an absolute pleasure and blessing knowing you as a friend or neighbor.
I really feel for Pete I know how much love and work you put into that old boy. I just watched a video of a Mopar engine guy in Canada (Nicks garage) who ran into the same issue with a Dodge 440. That spring just cost you many hours and dollars. Keep on smiling.
Pete sorry to hear of the break down of the Farmall. That sucks big time. They say the first 100 hours after an overhaul is when things usually break. Now that you've had the break, the rest should be all downhill!!! 😁 Good luck I hope there is no other serious damage.
Sorry to hear about the MD, Thanks for sharing both the up's and down's. Hopefully it won't be a big mess in there when you open it up. make sure you show us what you find and we can all learn from it. Thanks Jim
Sorry to hear about tractor troubles :/ hope it's a best case scenario rather than a worse case. I always look for a silver lining and here I would say at least nobody was hurt.
Pete, been watching all your videos. I farmed in the Norfolk Nebraska area for many years. I don’t anymore but miss it and watching you makes me miss it more and more everyday. Love the videos love what you do. Keep up the great work!!!
Sorry to hear about the MD. You did such a beautiful job on the restoration and to have it run so well, this must be extremely frustrating. At least you have the skill set to assess and make the repairs. I always worry every time I run my MD that something like this will happen. Parts are getting harder to find and more expensive. It really is a labor of love to keep these old tractors running.
Oh Pete...life on a farm covers so many things from good to bad...hopefully the damage is minor even though even minor is going to be time consuming to fix. Thanks for the great videos and I have learned so much from you.
Pete, I really enjoy your channel. You were so happy and proud when you originally finished the MD. I am so sorry for what happened to it now. I know you will eventually get it running again. Peace be with you.
Oh, that's a bummer Pete, I can just imagine the disappointment. We've got our fingers crossed for minimal damage. I'm going to get myself a JAFAF mug to contribute to the MD re-restoration budget! :)
Ahhh Pete so sorry to hear about the MD. I know you spent a couple years restoring it and that’s the beauty of it. In the end you’ll make it right because you love it. In the meantime you have the beautiful Super8 and the H to be the show ponies and 56’s to do the work. It’s an awesome collection when all the others are included. Good luck with the MD, I’ll be hoping for you.
Pete, Hang in there, I suppose on the positive side you will be bringing us more great content as you dive in and look into the cause deeper and the following repairs. Thanks for fixing and restoring the most interesting tractor in the world and my favorite:)
Hi Pete/Hillary, so sorry to here about the MD I watch every show rebuilding the MD I’m absolutely gutted for you, I know you’ll pick up the pieces and rebuilt it again and it’ll will be better than new, all the best Sean UK.
What a tough break. It was nice seeing it up and running for a bit. I am curious about the damage, but I can be patient... to a point. Good thing you collect old tractors.
Very sad to hear about the MD. It makes me want to cry, but I know it's in good hands. On a side note, I am happy the 756 is running good. Little work here and there and she will be good for a long time.
Darn, what bad luck on the MD. Glad you have other workhorses in your stable to get the work done. I am sorry that happened, but that's life, I suppose. Chin up, indeed! As always, thank you for the video, your smile, and your tenacity. Be safe, be well.
Oh Pete ....what a disappointment...we're so sorry ...you will rally again and fix her up ! And we'll all have something to experiencecwith you again...and you will give us all the thorough picture of the repair...hang in there ! You are such a great teacher ! Thanks for always sharing your life on the farm ...God bless and keep on farming!
Pete!!! A wise man once said......"Life is what happens when you are busy making other plans". I am so sorry for your tractor......we all know how much "your labor of love" means to you. Is there any way we (the majority of your 266K viewers) can help? Please keep up the "Good Work". Rich from PA
yes been there done that, I admire your attitude, when that's all you got left, no words can help I know, but I deeply admire you, for all the thigs they write books about, and keep on going, and yes, you wonder why and get no answers, it's just hard work to put one foot in front of the other, al I can say, is what "they" say, eventually true, eventually, " this too shall pass " I wish you well, yea, and they wonder why some men look old, this helps
One fact about farming, whether with old equipment or new, you never know when something might go down. It's frustrating, I know very well, but the sun will come up tomorrow and the Son always is shining in your life. As I use to hear a lot from an older farmer when I was a kid, "Well, tomorrow's another day". God bless you and your family❤
Man Pete, I truly hate that. The MD is such a gorgeous machine. I wish you all the best luck in your evaluation of the engine. Again I hate this happened.
Oh boy, i feel for you Pete. I was thinking you were lucky to have extra tractors when you were doing hay. When we did hay we only had the one trator. Best of luck with the rest of the haying.
I feel your pain. There is nothing worse than having everything done and something fails. Yes as you said, it is alot of work to restore a tractor. I'm doing a restoration on a 1938 jd AR unstyled and spent 12 hrs just getting the hood ready for paint. It will be interesting to see what you find when you take it apart. Keep up the great videos.
Sorry you had such a problem. I was impressed with all you did to restore your tractor. Let’s hope the problem isn’t even bigger when you get into the engine. I hope you can find new springs!
A fter watching you spend so much care and time on the MD it really saddened me to see that defective spring cause such damage. I really like your program
So very sorry for the problems with the tractor, but as you stated, keep your chin up and keep plugging along. wishing you and yours the best, and I have really enjoy learning from you and your videos!!!!
I’ve watched your video on the MD rebuild and know how much effort it took to rebuild it and to have that kind of catastrophic break down is really heart breaking! Had something very similar happen with me on my rebuild, so I know what it feels like. Hopefully there isn’t a lot of damage done to the head @ cylinder .
Sorry to hear about the MD. Been working on my own vehicles etc for years. I understand the heartbreak, especailly when we are busy and really need these things to work! Hopefully she'll be up and running again soon.
Heart breaking yes, but you know what to do to fix it Pete, and it runs so well it will be a good story to tell when you get it fixed ! If anyone can get it running again it’s defiantly you sir ! Thanks for the updates.
I’m so sorry about your tractor. Even though it’s a part of farming that doesn’t make it any less heartbreaking. I’m just glad you’re capable of fixing. Good luck
Pete I am so sorry. MY heart sank in reference to the MD. Even though I did not have anything to do with the restoration I was there through all the videos and feel very invested in it in some way. It kills me that it died.
😭😭😭😭😭😭 I am so so sorry. This only happens to the best of us. Glad you are still holding your chin up. Glad you have backup tractors to jump in the work.
When I heard the bad news all I could think about was the old Hee-Haw song "Gloom, despair, and agony on me." Hopefully it will be back rolling through the fields by next spring. Thanks for sharing Pete.
I'm sorry the beauty broke down. I'm sure you will fix it. On some good news, I can finally stand up for short periods of time after training for 4 weeks. Next step is walking without crutches. Thank you for always bringing me good content and making me look forward to what's next. Got to be baby video next. I love the baby videos!
I believe if my memory is correct Pete, you totally restored that tractor. I cost a lot. probably half or more paid for by you. and the remaining funding by us, your viewers. took a long time to do. but you gave us so many videos for a looooong time to document your progress. we loved it and you and the knowledge and the bonus of an extra big helping of wisdom each video. thanks. yeah, life happens I'm sure myself, many others and you would like to see it fixed in 3 - 4 months. So sorry Pete. I know how discouraging it must feel to have a spring break and undo all your hard work and potentially cause more damage. I hope the damage is slight and that you find the time this year to get the tractor up and running. It sure looks great after all your loving care and attention. Keep the faith; your passion for small farms is inspiring
Pete, that is heartbreaking news. We are very sorry the valve spring broke and stopped your MD. But we know you are a great mechanic and will be able to repair/replace parts and have it running again.

When dealing with hay time, any and all things can happen. Fortunately, you have enough equipment to make quick adjustments. Great video!

Thanks Pete
Pete, That is so frustrating.
Praying the damage is minimal. Thanks for always showing the good and the bad. You're teaching folks that a bad day is survivable.
I'm sorry to hear about MD. I can't imagine the pain that must feel after all those hours. But do want to see you fix the 756 transmission issues. Because our 1086 does the exact same thing in low range. It will jump out unless you properly seat it low range. Keep up the great work.
Take your time man you will get to it eventually. I’m sorry that happened.
😟 Sorry that happened-glad to see you (appear) to put your disappointment into a reasonable perspective. The older I get, the more I count on perspective as my “go-to” coping tool.
So sorry to hear about the tractor...you have put in a lot of time on it. Thank goodness you have backups. It will be okay. How is Ezra? Love seeing the animals. Thanks Pete for your great videos.
Thank you for sharing your positive attitude in the face of a setback. Looking forward to seeing you get it running again!
I hate to hear about the MD Mr. Pete. The good thing is you have the back up tractors to keep on rolling with the hay.
Hey Pete, thanks for making/sharing the video's! Very sorry for your misfortune, all you can do is keep marching on.
Pete , A fresh rebuild is a wonderful project to see accomplished . Sad to hear of the mechanical failure . As a past diesel / automotive machinist , it is so nice to see the extent of your restoration work , truly beautiful. I hope your repairs are easily accomplished , great video as always .
Oh man…… that stinks! Here’s hoping for minimal damage…. Thanks for keeping us up to date!
I'm sorry to hear about your tractor Pete. I know that has to be very frustrating. Like you said, keep your head up and keep pressing foward! Another good video as always.

I completely agree with you.
Sorry about your loss Pete. You kick that tractor's ass! we believe in you!
Your MD restoration videos were my favorite, looking forward to that!
Nice job maintaining a positive attitude, Pete. That can't be easy under these conditions. All the best!
That breaks my heart hearing the news on the MD. I'm praying that it isn't bad when you do investigate. Be safe and God bless
