    Watching these later games is tough because I have no idea what's going on with the mod. So curious what happened to make Tradition go from pretty much the only choice to crap

    • @colewarner4954
      @colewarner4954 หลายเดือนก่อน

      (A year+ late but). To sum it up simply, tradition was left basically the same as the base game (Only change I can think of was instead of the policy for increased city combat strength, it provided a free walls), while the other starter trees all received significant buffs, in particular for culture and science generation. With the buffs I would say that tradition and liberty on their own were actually quite balanced, and it wasn't that tradition became crap, but just much more situational (As liberty was in the base game). I would say this is because liberty, though on it's own equal to tradition, worked much better as a compliment to the improved honor and piety trees/defense against opponents using the improved piety/honor trees. Some more specific points:
      1) Maps were changed to add more luxuries, making it easier to settle more cities as Liberty
      2) Piety was significantly buffed in terms of both culture and science generation (Like 25% science from city with grand temple), though usually "splashed" with either liberty or tradition. Though as with the base game, benefits of religion are much stronger with liberty
      3) Honor became viable as an opening strategy, which inherently makes tradition less viable because tradition is quite poor for early defending. For example, even if you had great tradition lands with HG Petra Great Wall or something like that, if you say had honor Arabia or Zulu or China as a neighbor, it would be basically impossible to defend as tradition while remaining relevant to the game. So essentially, the fact that full honor was actually a viable opening strategy that could be used by your neighbors made liberty a better default opener to defend against other honor players.
      4) 15% or 25% more gold from city connections was a huge buff to gold generation, which was one of the major problems with liberty
      5) With the mod science victory became a lot harder, and most games were ending really at or before artillery with military pushes. As liberty is stronger for early game and military while tradition is better late game and for science, this put more emphasis on the early game, benefiting liberty.
      Mod changed many times so wasn't the case with every version, but this was generally the case when liberty was much stronger than tradition.

    Sorry for newb question, but you settled on a luxury resource tile, does that mean that you get that resource?

      I'd like to know too

    • @thomashamon1810

      If i'm not mistaken, you get the happiness for having a Luxury Resource you settled on once you discover the required tech needed to build the tile improvement associated with the Luxury Resource, not before.
      For example Filthy will get 4 happiness for the Silver he settled once he discovers Mining (which is needed to build a mine, the tile improvement for Silver).
      BUT when you settle on a Luxury Resource, you wont get the extra -food or hammer or gold- given by the tile improvement itself. For example, a Silver resource on a hill without a mine is 2hammer/2gold. Building a mine on it makes it 3hammer/2gold.
      Settling on Silver Hill will only give 2 hammer/2gold even once Mining discovered, not 3hammer/2gold as it would be with the same tile with a mine on it.
      Settling on a Silver Hill gives early production (2 tiles is nice) + early gold income (+1 gold per turn Bonus).
      Plus, in this particular case, settling on the silver tile was putting the capital in a range of better tiles.

    • @thomashamon1810
      @thomashamon1810 8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      And I also forgot to mention that later on, some technologies will give bonuses to tile improvements.
      In this case, discovering Chemistry gives +1hammer on all tiles with a mine on it.
      So, I'm not 100% sure, but i'd say if you settle on Silver , you won't get this bonus as well. (to be confirmed ?)
