Okay so I've tried this ten times with an external ssd and the game won't even open. I changed exactly what you did but all i get is "giants engine not responding" and can't even load the game now.
Great video, but every time I try to move the folder to my D drive instead of my C drive where it originally was it just crashes the game every time I launch it. Any ideas
Thanks for this video Farmer Klein, this is what I was needing and looking for, only it was a bust in my case, I tried relocating my mods folder to an NAS "Network-attached storage" but due to the size of my mods folder the load time was like "never going to happen" LOL my goal was to clear up space and also allow all my pcs to access that same mods folder. Great video and thanks again.
Best practice would be to have different mod folders for different save games and only have the mods your acutally using in the mod folder at any point in time. The game will perform much better this way than having a master mod folder with thousands of mods that the game must initalize every time it launches. As you have seen before the game gets to the main menu it itterates thru every mod in the mod folder reading some aspects of the mods into memory long before you even select a savegame.

Lifesaver! I absolutely hate modern computing sees the cloud storage as default location. I downloaded every Giants mod and the cloud full nonsense was starting again
You can also go into Onedrive, Google drive or what ever storage solution your using and configure it to ignore particular folders like the mods folder.

I have an issue where no matter what I do, mods from reputable sites do not pop up, and when I change my mods folder, the ones I've downloaded in the other folder are still there, and I can't find the real mod folder. Running windows 11.

I had to do this because for some reason, my mods were all installing on Onedrive. I've moved them all to a different folder, but they're also still on OneDrive. Can I just delete them off of there, or will that cause problems down the road? I'd like to be able to delete them ,because it took up all the space on Onedrive
The default location is in your documents folder which is of course backed up by onedrive if you use it. There is a way to exclude the mods folder from the sync but moving it outside a folder path synced by onedrive will also work. Once you know your mod folder is being pulled from a different location then yes you can delete the old mod folder.

@@sooline3854 Farm sim will always install its user specific components under Documents\My Games\Farming Simulator 2022\ There is no way to change that aspect. You can tell OneDrive to not sync the Farming Simulator 2022 folder and all folders under it. While you can move the mod folder you can not move the save game folder path or any other files stored under Documents\My Games\Farming Simulator 2022.
when I go in game it changes the conifig back to previous. so i set the config to read only and when i start the game its just black screen. doesnt even say loading

You an not move the entierty of the Farming Simulator 2022 folder unless you relocate your user profile path which is possible. Look up moving you user profile on google and it should help you tell windows you want your \Users\ folders to be in a different location then your Document\My Games\Farming Simulator 2022\ folder wont be on C:\ it could be on D:\
If you wish to move the entire contents of My Games\FarmingSimulator2022 then you need to tell Windows to move your documents library there is no way to tell the game that the FarmingSimulator2022 folder is anywhere other than Documents\My Games\FarmingSimulator2022.
With steam they make it easy to move your game library. To do this go to Steam and pick the Steam menu then Settings then Downloads and pick the Steam Library Folders button to add a new location for steam games and then you can select which game(s) you wish to move and steam will relocate them to the new location. This will NOT change your savegames or mod locations as those will always be under your user profile Documents/My Games/Farming Simulator 22 unless you tell the game you have your mod folder somewhere else.
Not without moving your entire Documents library in Windows. The location for your save games and other settings files that are in the Documents\My Games\Farming Simulator 2022 folder are hard coded to your Documents\My Games folder location so the only way to move it to a different drive would be to tell windows you want to move yoru Documents library to a different drive. @@nathanvosburgh718 That would be a clear indicator. All mods are loaded into memory when you launch the game as it validates each one. Thats before you even get to the main menu let alone attempt to lauch the game. I suspect you will find the game performs a heck of alot better with a more reasonable mod count. One reason I avocate for different mod folders for each save and only having mods your actively using in each mod folder.
@@FarmerKlein ueah i tried loading Elmcreek with the mods i had and it was stuck at 60% for 5 hrs i tried like 5 times still stuck at 60% for 5 hours so i deselect the mods when loading the map it loaded in messed around saved acatived the mods again and the map loaded in
first time i did i havd over 2,000 mods move the folder out of C Drive My Games folder move it to my other location that has a much bigger storage loaded into the game and my mods are not installed moved the folder back and mods work? so what went wrong?
This setting does not acutally move the mods it tells the game your mods are in a different location than default. You still need to actually move them.
I'm having an issue with my fs22 file. It looks like I am missing a "modSetting" folder. Without this folder the mods I installed off the mod hub website do not appear in the game. Is there any way I can fix that without uninstalling and reinstalling the game?

No, The game is hard coded to put the save info in your computers profile folder under Documents/My Games/FarmingSimulator2022. YOu could move the location of your entire profile to another location but that would be a function of Windows not the game and would move clearly all the contents of your profile but Windows takes care of pointing things to the right location.
I tried this with fs19 and i lost all my mods and i decided to try it again this time with your vid and i was able to get it done but when i start the game i can't find any of my mods ,I'm did it exactly except I'm trying to put it on an external drive ,seems like it still wants to pull from the c drive
If its a drive on your computer you can change it. Note this does not acutally move your mods you have to move them to the new location also. Your just telling the game where to look.
The only way to really try this is to un-install PV tools, then re-install it and choose the path to FS22 instead of FS19. I haven't tried it yet in fear of messing everything up
I've finally decided to give PV tools a go for FS22 and it works! It basically does what farmer Klein did manually. Just use the method on my previous comment
If you where trying to move your mod folder then it sounds like you have an error in the change and or you moved the mod folder but didn't actually move your mods to that location.
This is very interesting! So then...if my game was installed on my regular WD hard drive, I could put my mods on my big SSD drive...and my game would operate smoother and faster? I understand this is the basis of what you are saying...I am just double checking my comprehension. (Too many gray hairs in my beard...lol)
loading assets from the base game would still be slow and with the new texture streaming it might not be ideal to have the main game files on a slow drive. The general idea is you can move our mod folder away from the same location where your user profile is ie C:\users\{username} \FarmingSimulator2022\ to another location while other aspects like your game saves and settings are still stored in your profile.
@@FarmerKlein I have a 7 TB empty external SSD drive. I had considered moving the whole game...all of it to this drive since it has a 5gb/sec transfer speed. Or...easiest solution is leave it alone. I noted you moved your mods folder only to a D: drive, which was got me thinking about moving just the mods folder to the faster ssd drive. Leave everything else where it is. Thoughts, please?
@@alangreen3425 I did for the video then turned it off. I honestly forget where my user profile is stored at the moment. I doubt it's on my NVME drive as that is low capacity so it's either on a slower SSD or super slow traditional drive. I would have used th standard windows function to relocate user profile storage but beyond that my mod folder is in the normal path so when I demonstrate things I do not have to explain why what I am showing is different than what I am telling.

This is also a cool way to have preset modpacks if you have a bunch of mods and dont want to sift through them when making a new save
Am i doin something wrong? because when i do this and boot up the game via steam it says the giant engine isnt responiding
Verify the syntax is correct after making the change and you did not delete a " or something like that.

The modSetting folder will be auto created IF a mod that makes use of this feature is activated. Not all mods have a settings file in modSettings.

The mod folder and the config xml's are generated automatically by the game. it cant not be there you must be looking in the wrong place.

yep. move the files how ever you want this shows you how to edit the game to look for those files in an alternate location once moved.

If your taking about the gamepass version on PC it should. If your referring to the game on Xbox then no as you cant get to the file system.
All of a sudden my mods are invisible in game where I cannot buy any of my mods but I can buy stock equipment, does anybody have any clues?

I did this and it loaded up without mods if I didn't include mods after D:/ & froze my loading screen if I had it D:/mods
