I used to work in the admissions office at UM. He's right. The application process is quite holistic so one "negative" or mediocre aspect won't bring you down. That doesn't mean to not give everything your all, of course. The admitted students are usually exceptional in some way (started a business, volunteers, wins awards, IB, multilingual, etc). Great video!
Because at this point ik this school is reach for me will they even consider my application with a low gpa and test score besides writting a good personal essay
Please, I have question, what if you've met all the requirements but you're still yet to pay the application fee and you've not paid yet and the decision deadline is fast approaching. Does it end up affecting your chances of getting into UM? Or even if you paid the fee, you may still not get accepted to University Of Miami?
Thanks for the advice. This is one of my dream schools and I keep worrying about my SAT scores a lot which keeps me under pressure of whether I'll get in or not.
I am looking into applying to the University of Miami and I am an IB student too so this video really helped! Now I definitely want to apply. Thanks for the advice!
An IB brother, thanks for the video. I was born and raise Miami, but have since moved away. I hope to make a return as an UM student in the class of 2022. (diploma candidate btw)
Im a rising sophmore and the u is my dream school. My brother went there and I really want to go there because I love the campus and the way it is. This video made me a lot more confident because even though I can still get my grades up im worried. I really hope I can go to Miami because its a great school. This video helped me a lot and I hope I can be there for my freshman year in 2023
JESUS CHRIST is LORD and He loved us while we were still sinners to die for our sins and be raised from the grave for our justification as the sinless, perfect Lamb of GOD, Who takes away the sin of the world, fulfilling the righteousness that the law requires, which we, sinners by nature, could never fulfill, for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of GOD. however in this present age, we may now be saved by the grace of GOD through faith in Him alone, followed by the act of repentance or the turning away from all of our sins. we must be born again. JESUS CHRIST is the Way and the Truth and the Life!

that’s what my gpa is looking like at the start of my juniors year. Had a 4.0 Freshman Year and a 3.3 Sophomore because covid messed me up. Sitting at a 4.0 Right now during my Junior year. Just scared for my SAT and ACT
Hey! I found your video really helpful as well as reassuring. Do you have any insight on essays? How much they’d looked at and consider them or if the college reads into them for background info. Let me know I am applying this fall!
I applied to the University of Miami Early Action because my mom didn't want me to apply early decision for financial reasons and my gpa is pretty good and so is everything else in my application except for my ACT score but im hoping for the best! I love love love the school so much very helpful video!
I’m a student at the U. You got very very lucky getting into Miami with a 25 ACT and a 3.4 GPA... If you’re a white student with an ACT below a 28, you’ll probably have about a 5% chance of being accepted unless you’re recruited as a D1 athlete. It was probably thanks to your TH-cam channel that you were accepted. I’ve only ever met one person at UM with an ACT and GPA that low, and she’s a legacy whose father gives a ton of money to the school...
My TH-cam channel had nothing to do. I didn't even have a channel when I applied or got accepted. Honestly what saved me was being very well rounded throughout high school. Numbers were not in my favor, experiences were :)
Hi Danny, I am interested in this school but my high school does not really offer many extra curricular activities IN school, but i participate in a couple OUTSIDE of school... do you still think that it would be a problem for me to get accepted because of this?
I was wondering if I would have a good chance of getting in. My weighted GPA is a 3.6 (but my school has more difficult classes which may affect how they view it), my sat score is an 1150 (but i still haven't completed algebra 2 yet), I was on the robotics team this year (junior year), and i did a leadership program, I have 120 community service hours, my dad is an alumni, and i may or may not be on the bright futures plan (depending on if i can bring up my sat score to a 1290.) I really want to attend this university and i also apologize for all of the parenthesis. Any response would mean a lot, thank you.
Please, I have question, what if you've met all the requirements but you're still yet to pay the application fee and you've not paid yet and the decision deadline is fast approaching. Does it end up affecting your chances of getting into UM? Or even if you paid the fee, you may still not get accepted to University Of Miami?
Thanks for your advice it helped me a lot.Is the financial aid is merit based for international students(from Bangldesh)? Can an international student get full ride based on their GPA?
Do you think certifications in any Adobe program will help you stand out from others in this application process? Will it give you a better chance of getting in?
I’m a freshman I just started school so far I have a 4.00 average in all my courses do I have a chance of getting excepted to um if I keep heading this rout in my high school career
Hey! I’m a junior with a 1290 PSAT, 28 pre-ACT and 4.26 weighted GPA (taking 2 APs and an extra science). i play volleyball and track and am participating in multiple clubs. i also go on service trips every summer. would getting a job help at all? or should i not? i also want to start an ASL club at my school!
Just as an additional data point from a guy who went to UM back in 2003-07. My SAT was 800 quant / 710 verbal (back in 2002 when it was still out of 1600), ACT was 33 with perfects in math and science. My GPA was pretty bad in high school (I was barely in the top half of my graduating class) since I was a low C student in everything except science where I had an A+ average and took all AP science/math classes that were offered at the time and got 5s in all of them. I was an eagle scout, class president, state medalist in wrestling, and 1st chair trumpet in state band. I applied regular decision to UM, Northwestern, and Duke. I got into all 3, but ended up going to UM due to location and scholarships. I studied Mechanical Engineering with minors in French and Music.
High school GPA? I honestly don't know; it's been 15-20 years since I was in high school. I think my % average was around 80% and my school didn't use a 4.0 scale, but I guess it would have been around 2.8/4.0 scale. I did well on my AP exams: I got 5s in Chemistry, Calc BC, Physics C, and both Econs and a 4 on French. I entered UM as a sophomore since they awarded me 32 credits for all that. I think the admissions people just excused my poor GPA because I had really high SAT/ACT scores with a lot of 5s on the AP exams and had tons of extracurricular activities.
I got in!!! But I’m so broke and applied for all the scholarships there are. I’m gonna be $160,000 in debt when I graduate. Is Drake gonna pop up out again and help a boy out?
I hate to butt in, but no college is worth 160,000 of debt. I started out at community college and only regret not being able to spend more time there. Do your future self a favor and stay as debt-free as possible. Even a quarter as much debt as you're talking about is horrible when you see the numbers for real as you're acquiring it.
Elissa Pancoe I hear you. It’s so unreal how the average tuition is $50,000 a year ($6,000 a class), but I’m going to test the waters in the fall and see how the costs really add up. If it’s too much for my future self to pay off then I’ll go back to my local college. $30,000 lesser salary is better than paying back $160,000 for years
thanks for the comment and I totally agree! Luckily I was able to cover most of my tuition through scholarship money. BUT I do believe that at the end of the day what matters is what you do at school rather than what school you go to. I have many friends who are much smarter than me and they go to Community College due to financial reasons. Does that mean they are dumber than me? does that mean their future won't be as good as mine? OF COURSE NOT ! I did the ACT two times! and I did the SAT three times, but two of those times it was the "old SAT" and I ddi the new SAT once. I decided to submit my new SAT score and I got a 25 twice on the ACT!
IB really strengthens your coursework outlook. However, IB will not be the sole factor to determine if you get in or not! I did IB as well and personally doing IB does not hurt you it does help a little but it will not be the main factor to the admissions officers.
@@ItsDanny123 Oh haha that makes me feel a bit more hopeful. My GPA isn't astounding though because of my first two years of high school (don't know if I'll get a pass for it being a difficult school). Any advice?
Forever Alexcia ok so IB and AP are both ways to gain college credits. While most AP classes are given in the high school some IB classes are done in college. Another program is the Cambridge International Examinations magnet program which is more or less the same but with the Cambridge University's standards
Ok when did you hear back for ED? It says late December but I met with an admission person and they said before Christmas but I'm trying to get a more solidified date as admission to Miami is all I've been thinking about
It's hard to give you a concrete answer. There are too many other factors that depend when it comes to giving you financial aid or acceptance. I can say that there are a good amount of international students that do get scholarships!
It's Danny I have a 3.6 GPA (89 in 1-100 scale) in one of the most prestigious high schools in Mexico, i’m on the high school football team (no way i make it to the canes tho), and i only take 1 subject of IB and I’ve attended (and won awards at) several MUN simulations, idk if you could tell me the odds of me getting a scholarship with that information
woooooow that is some great stuff! well UM is very considerate about scholarships and financial aid and i do have friends that are international students and do get money. Seeing your stats, pretty sure you will get something. Just don't know the exact amount.
American colleges are pretty useless in freshman year from what I can tell and have been told by American friends. Ur math in ur other vid is like 11th grade difficulty. Coming from a Canadian student.
It's Danny actually enjoy watching the vids man, keep it up. Love seeing the perspective of someone my age at a 2000 km away, (wish I could be at the U)
Now it's not. In my opinion IB is better but I'm biased since I was in IB. Different courses and curriculum. The standard is international but both programs can give you a weighted GPA
Kyla Grace hello, I’m sorry this may be weird considering this is a very old video but I see your comment is only a week old. I am going to be applying ED very soon to UM. I see a lot of talk about AP and IB but sadly my school offers neither because they are “not needed” Instead we have a local community college that we take classes through. Would this be seen on the same level? Thank you :)

Did you get any scholarships?
yes i got a couple!
Gotten a lot more competitive in 2019. Acceptance rate is now about 5.25%. More competitive than Dartmouth.
