    I'm glad you posted this video. I enjoyed it very much and it shows the reality of hunting. Unless you went on a fenced hunt tagging a buck or any game animal is not a given. There are so many factors that can prevent you from harvesting your deer etc. A bad week hunting in my opinion is still better than a good week at work. I hope your all better now and ready to hit the woods this fall. Cheers

    I'm glad you didn't fall. That's why big guys don't belong in trees. I gave up the tree years ago. Welcome to the old man's club it's not too lonely here😮👍😜

    We don’t bounce so good when we get old. I’m 60, no tree climbing for me after my wife’s uncle fell and almost died in the woods. He laid on the ground for 14 hours before we found him. We had to carry him out on a stretcher with search and rescue. That accident put a damper on hunting season when we didn’t know if he was going to survive. We were doing a lot of praying for uncle, he’s doing fine now. Stay safe my friend!!!

      Thanks for watching. It's frustrating getting older in the deer woods. So happy to hear that your wife's uncle recovered! That was a rough time for you all I'm sure.

    That sure is a bummer when you look forward to something and it just doesn’t go as planned! Not being able to get up in your stands is a real change of plans also. But I’m sure many memories were made and laughs had!

      Right on ! We had an absolute blast hunting together and it always feels like an adventure up there. It was nice just being able to see our Canada friends in person again. We'll get the big bucks next time. Thanks for watching 👍🏻

    How hard was it to get your Ontario license? Also which maps do you use to hunt state land there?

    • @recentlyretired
      @recentlyretired 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Same as getting a license in the states. You need to pay a $25 fee to bring your guns into Canada, you Hunt Crown land in Canada ( Same as State land ) only a couple zones you can hunt without a guide

    I lived in Kenora for 15 years and was a guide for deer while I was there. It is unfortunate you never had a chance a a nice buck. You were hunting near the Manitoba border, there are some really nice bucks in that area. When I guided I always took my clients far from other hunters, you cannot hunt big bucks where other hunters are. Unfortunately for many they can’t do this because it entails walking, not trucks or quads, into the bush.
    Once you walk half a mile from any road or quad trail the hunting changes 100% for the better. Also why were you not rattling? The last week of October is awesome for rattling. I’ve had groups of bucks come in to check me out before they split up for the rut. Although with the other hunters in the area it probably wouldn’t have worked. The deer hunting is fabulous in Manitoba just outside of the Whiteshell . I use to go there after I filled my Ontario tag and I think I saw a total of 2 other hunters while I was there.
    Good Hunting

      Thanks for watching and commenting buddy! I did try rattling a few times. I think I just needed to get further off the road. Lesson learned. Not sure if you saw my muzzleloader hunt in Manitoba yet ? It was a totally different experience for sure. Of course, I had a guide's help and must give credit where credit is due. Good luck this season !👍🏻

      I'm from northern Michigan and hunted the Kenora area in 1999. It was one of my most memorable hunts. I did kill a nice buck but, that was icing on the cake. The true enjoyment was the wilderness and knowing that you could potentially see a buck of a lifetime (when compared to what we typically have around us). As long as you were willing to get off the road, you had the entire woods to yourself. That is something we don't have where I live. Yes, the Pigeon River State Forest if vast, but almost all of it is easily accessible.
      The group I used to hunt with are now long gone. A new group wanted to go back there this year. However, after learning that the deer population in that area is at an all-time low, the decision was made to hold off for a year or two. It's amazing country!!!
      Benny, thanks for sharing.

    With your bad arms,you climb up that ladder and put your stand up with out a harness with a line man's rope. Your looking to end your hunting or life if you fall.
