Richard Wagner, Arnold Schönberg, Alban Berg - this combination shows perfectly Pierre Boulez' concept of modernism. In his interpretation of "Prelude, Tristan und Isolde", "Pelléas et Mélisande" and Alban Berg's Violin Concerto he follows the revolutionary harmonic development of musical modernism. Pierre Boulez - undoubtedly one of the most important figures in the music of our time - conducts the Gustav Mahler Youth Orchestra. The ensemble was founded in 1986 by the initiative of Maestro Abbado and consists of musicians under the age of 26 from all countries of Europe. Soloist Akiko Suwanai is the youngest first-prize recipient (1990) in the history of the International Tchaikovsky Competition.

Today is March 26...Pierre's birthday. The youngsters in that orchestra can tell their grandchildren they played under Boulez. WOW!

Excellent interpretation and some nice edits to the score! Boulez is a Wagner master. There is an interesting anecdote that at the Bayreuth festival, where Boulez conducted at very often, he used to sneak to the dressing rooms (there was a camera that faced the conductor in the pits that can be viewed backstage to watch Carlos Kleiber rehearse Tristan und Isolde and that had a remarkable effect on the way Boulez conducted Tristan

Wagner’s extraordinary emotional outpouring is somehow enhanced by Pierre Boulez who in general is a rather “cool” conductor in terms of interpretation. So here his restraint gives the work a clarity that is often missing in other “over the top” performances.

@@BrianJosephMorgan it's not being an anonymous the problem (everyone has the right to have an opinion) but thinking that everything is always should be perfect is the real problem.
Pierre Boulez conducted a lot of marvelous recording and concerts like Stravinsky's rite of the springs with the Cleveland symphony orchestra (which in my humble opinion is the best recording of the piece) or Bruckner's 8th symphony in the Lucerne festival and other pieces.
You should learn how to respect others Dan especially if they have more knowledge than you.
