I've looked for workarounds everywhere (Facebook groups, Reddit, forums) but I couldn't find any solution related to GI. Eventually, I've stumbled upon video tutorials here on TH-cam where other gamers made use of Switch Control to use their mouse and keyboard to play Minecraft. So I gave it a try and the same steps worked on Genshin Impact!
FYI - I'm not a native English speaker so forgive me if there were instances where I lose my train of thought and I fail to explain some steps properly. I also recorded this during the wee hours so I had to regulate my voice and I had 2 brain cells left.
In this video, I'll share with you how I play Genshin Impact on my iPad. I was bummed out when I found out that controller, keyboard, and mouse support is not yet available on the Genshin Impact iPad OS version.

Here are the steps:
1. Go to Settings - Accessibility - Switch Control - Enable Switch Control
2. Go to Switches - Add New Switch - External
3. Press the key (on your keyboard) that you'd like to assign to a particular action.
For example, W - Up, A - Left, S - Down, D - Right, E - Elemental Skill, Q - Elemental Burst
4. Change the name of the switch to something you can easily recognize
5. Select "Tap"
6. Go back to Switch Control and look for Recipes - Create New Recipe - Change the name of the recipe - then tap Assign a Switch
7. Look for the name switch that you want to set up (for example: W - Up)
8. Open Genshin Impact and wait until all on-screen buttons appear
9. Hover your finger on top of the function that you want to assign the Switch (key) to. Try your be as accurate as possible.
10. Go back to the Recipe settings and tap "Hold at Point"
11. Tap the screen on the area where you were hovering your finger over.
This will assign the key to the specific are you've touched on screen.
12. Repeat the steps above to create new switches.
13. Once all switches are set up, go to Recipes - Launch Recipe and choose the new Recipe you've created
14. Relaunch Genshin Impact, press the home button (or power button for iPad Air 4) 3x to disable/ enable Switch Control while in-game.

I tried to answer the common questions I've found here:
1. "Can't turn on switch control"
a. Check if you have other Accessibility feature turned on such as Assistive Touch. Try to disable them first and see if it works. It looks like you can only enable one feature at a time when Switch Control is on.
b. If you're using an iPad/ iPhone with a dedicated home button, triple-click that home button instead of the lock button on top of the device.

2. "I can only press one key at the same time"
To be honest, I didn't notice this as much when I first played since I was just a beginner at the time I recorded this video and I often play on my PC. Unfortunately, I haven't found a workaround just yet to make the experience better. I'll update in case there's a solution/ workaround.
I'm sorry for everyone who got disappointed with this limitation. I genuinely have no intention to clickbait or anything, I just wanted to help out those who bought a keyboard/ mouse like me but ended up not using them because we don't have that option in Genshin. I also clearly mentioned that it's just a workaround so there might be limitations. I'll do my best to find another workaround if there's any. I really hope we get an official update soon :(
3. Can I do this on my iPad/ iPhone?
As long as it's iOS/ iPad OS 13.4 above (which has mouse support) then you're good to go. It's not advisable if you don't have this OS since you won't be able to move around properly without the mouse.
4. Can you post a detailed tutorial?
I'll try to find time to do this. I currently have lots of tasks at hand and just moved into a new house so I haven't found time to update just yet. I'm also trying out a new workaround so I might include that on the next video. I just have to make sure it works before I record.
5. What keyboard are you using?
It's a mechanical keyboard called Keycool SP64 (2018 release) and I slapped on a cheap set of retro keycaps on it. I do not recommend this though since it doesn't have type-c USB and it's quite old so it's also a bit rare nowadays.
If you're looking for affordable mechanical keyboards, try the Anne Pro 2 or Royal Kludge. (not sure though if it's available for all regions)

For anyone that’s struggling to get rid of the blue box, click launch recipe then close switch control and turn it on again. You know it’s working when “your switches are configured to use the *insert name of the recipe you put* recipe” pops up on your screen. :)

Great workaround, I hope MYHOYO adds this natively soon, playing on touch isn't all that accurate.
I agree. Plus the ipad screens are way too big. It's not ideal for longer play hours
just buy a controller. its better plus many games does support it.

Hi everyone! I'm glad yall find this helpful even though it has certain limitations.
As many of you noticed, part of the limitation is it only allows one key to be used at a time, so this requires a lot of adjustment if youre used to tapping multiple actions at the same time. I didn't notice this much when I'm playing since I was just a beginner at the time I recorded this and I often play on my PC. Unfortunately, I havent found a workaround just yet. I'll update in case there's a solution.
UPDATE: Controller support is now available for iOS devices on v1.3 release so we can move on from this workaround to an official one. :)

Ahaha wow this is a heck of a work around, and takes quite a bit of manual keying in to play the game with a keyboard and mouse but thankyou so much for sharing. If only genshin impact people were working on keyboard support i think a lot of people will be happy about it. Because the game is awesome but i havent played it cause ipad is too darn heavy and i dont want hand injuries playing a game. thanks for sharing this video. I will try this method.
8:40 u can still assign keybinds for icons that would otherwise be blocked by the strip there!! click ‘hide controls’ and itll move out of the way for 10sec!!
8:43 you can access though actually when your doing the hold at point on the top left there is a button that says hide controls so you can access the top of the screen :)

! To move camera via keyboard:
Create switch and select custom gesture. mice your finger in the direction your setting it for and save.
ie: I have a switch named "Camera Down," so I set the switch as the down arrow on my keyboard and swiped my finger downwards on screen for the custom gesture.
Repeat this for up, left, right...
! To get rid of blue box while using switch control:
Go to accessibility
Go to scanning style
Select manual scanning
oh my fucking god you are a lifesaver, turns out that you CANNOT use an ordinary bluetooth mouse with switch control unless you have a magic mouse, honestly at this point i would just get a gamepad.

I dint notice tbh. I use my iPad for procreate, media consumption, plus genshin but I think it doesnt affect it that much. Although there are instances when the iPad becomes too warm when I play on it for a long time.

i guess the keyboard is cheap, but my ipad 8th gen is around 700 dollars. and the ipad they have is around 1k so it is not that low budget unless you already have an ipad and dont have a laptop

This is awesome and thank you for sharing! I got it set up but one issue came up. If I’m trying to keep running then jump, normally iPad allow multi touch so you can keep moving up and jumping at the same time. However with this set up, if I jump, it cancel the run command. Did you figure out how to enable multi touch with switch control?
You're welcome! My apologies, I forgot to mention that, yes seems like it cannot run multiple switches at the same time. I haven't had the chance to find a workaround for it yet since I'm back to playing using my PC. I'll let you know in case I see any resolution to this issue.

such a good tutorial. i think the only thing i have difficulty is whenever i use the AWSD moving keys, i cant seem to use the mouse to fix my viewpoint at the same time. its pretty frustrating because whenever i use the mouse and the moving keys at the same time it picks up on the where the position of the cursor is rather than the moving with the moving keys that im intending to use. hope anyone knows how to fix this..

Connect to bkuetooth, open game, settings > controls > set control type to controller.
This is SOOO much better then touch.

Great job I have been looking everyday to find out when support for keyboard or controller is going to be available on iPad Genshin impact. Or if anyone figured out a way to work around it. Currently I don’t have a wireless keyboard. I have been waiting for a graphics card for my pc so I decided to download this game on ipad. I am going to give it some more time but if no graphics card or support for ipad I’m glad I have this option available.
I also have my own PC but sometimes, my husband and I want to play co-op but we haven't built a 2nd PC yet. So I really tried to look for a workaround too to make this work on the iPad since it's hard to play using the on-screen buttons.

Help me, my mouse doesnt work properly. When i click or tap using the mouse (while the the switch control and the recipe is active), it keeps pressing that or area where i clicked, in short: its like long pressed or something like that. Pls help me
@marjiechan i found solution. Go to settings > accessibility > touch > assistive touch > turn off *perform touch gestures*
When I triple tap the power button, my ipad just goes to sleep. I realized my switch controls option is greyed out and I cant turn it on no matter what I do. Please help!

Hey! Have you tried using this set up in the Serenitea Pot realm? I'm finding it a bit challenging to move the items around my realm using my phone, so I was thinking that this could be a good work around and just switch to my iPad (specifically, using the mouse to drag the objects to a desired location). thanks!

In all honesty this fluff around doesn't really make it that much more enjoyable to play better off just playing on pc or wait till the ipad ver has proper keyboard & mouse support. Guess I'll stick to fingers on the ipad unless I could get a bluetooth xbox controller to work.
update just play with a xbox one or ps4 controller if you want to play on the go with an ipad, plays well one my 7th gen ipad only down side is my high ping and some cutscenes freeze and don't really run good.

it's because it hasn't recongnized your keyboard. Just press a few keys on your keyboard connected to your ipad and turn off switch control. then turn it back on

Thank You This just gave me a WONDERFUL Idea! I play on my iPhone 12 pro Max and I use a Bluetooth PS4 Controller which works well for gameplay. During an aimed shot with a bow you have to take your thumb off the right joystick used to aim and press X to fire. The Joystick is also the R3 Button if you press it inward. Ive been wanting to use the R3 button to do an aimed shot and its not configurable in settings. I THINK THIS MIGHT MAKE IT WORK AND I CAN'T WAIT TO TRY! GREAT WORK!!!!

I have the same problem but i have a temporary solution, put assistive touch in your control devices and if it ever disappears just swipe, hold the accessibility icon, turn assistive touch on then off, then switch back to the recipe

This looks like it would take some time to do but very helpful. I’ll try it because I do get tired of playing on the screen with my iPad and phone. Thankfully though controller support will be coming to mobile devices on February 3 with its 1.3 update. Your solution is still a good one because some people don’t like using controllers anyway. i used my keyboard to play genshin ever since last week, but since i downloaded IOS 16, the mouse cursor connects to the switch i used, how do i turn it off?
So like whenever I use my mouse air move it a black, a gray circle is connected to my mouse cursor and it’s like a switch I assigned, and then it just makes walking more difficult

I desperately need help, after i configured Genshin to my keyboard i was able to play and had fun the gameplay was comfortable and to my liking i could use the mouse separately as well which meant easier gliding, movement, etc but since i updated my ipad my recipe for Genshin goes right to my mouse which makes it harder to play! Does anyone know what to do or will i finally just have to cave in and buy a controller?
