They went into my brain and created everything I ever imagined creating, just with more class.
I like how you can actually hear the acoustic guitar in the songs since they remastered them.

wow these guys really were a great band since day one. I wasn't expecting this demo to be this interesting, I almost like it more than their first full lengths.
Ulver was always a special band inside black metal, so ahead of their time.

Ulver went from the purest form of black metal to the purest form of ambiental bullshit. Some ppl cant take it lightly. And its kinda retarded. Listen to the era of the band you prefer and thats it. Ulver has amazing bm albums,influeced by classical and folk music.

I love this demo. So raw yet reaching toward a sophistication just out of the band's reach. The early full lengths are great too, but this is my favourite. It's so ambitious but still nice and rough around the edges which is what I like about a lot of the BM I listen to. I can see why people draw parallels to VBE, and I would put forward a similarity with In the Woods...'s "HEart of the Ages". Very complimentary records in a way.

The vocals are very DSBM so it honestly fits. This is about dark as BM tone gets.

Few people understand the meaning of these voices. Whoever says it's a bad vocals doesn't understand the background of this demo. Garm is one of the best singers that ever lived and anyone who says otherwise has no idea.

Not only he is on drums here but he is strongly participating in songwritting/riffs(for example around 22-24 min of ep in song ''Nattens Madrigal'' these are his riffs) and also tracks 1. and 6. are exclusively his compositions.

Favorite 'metal' release ever
Does anyone have a clear idea as to why they completely abandoned doing metal? Ambient being more respected maybe? Really underrated first recording here.
Coz black metal went mainstream and lost its appeals. Ulver saw it as a great art form before it became a joke

Well and now compare this to Burzum, Mayhem, Darkthrone and Gorgoroth music wise. Leagues ahead in 1993. The circle around Ulver/Ved Burns Ende/Dødheimsgard was only matched by Enslaved and Emperor to a certain extent.

Vargnatt salió en 1993, Kronet til Konge en 1995, existe diferencia aunque no tanta, era la segunda ola aún y en general el material de esa época es hasta cierto punto individual pero producto de una mentalidad en común. Dodheimsgard no cambió hacia lo industrial sino hasta 1999 así que el comentario es válido.

Before the remastering this sounded like shit. It was mastered poorly originally. This is a whole new experience.
i'm almost positive it wasn't even mastered on the original release. extreme metal bands didn't know what mastering was in the early days and simply didn't do it. i'm not being mean and dismissive i'm just being honest.

Este demo es interesante por ser parte de la historia de Ulver, pero afortunadamente evolucionaron a un plano musical mil veces mejor que este. Lo único rescatable son las partes acústicas y la voz clara de Rygg , lo demás en lo personal no es de mis agrado.

Pretty cool sound for the time, and possibly their best work, but holy fug those vocals are terrible. Check out Darkthrone's Goatlord if you want otherworldly atmosphere and bizarre falsetto.
Garm's vox weren't yet matured, obviously they progressed with Bergtatt and Nattens...

Yes, this is very early days. Even the music is a bit confused... but listen to @21:30, that dramatic acoustic guitar and Garm's beautiful voice. Moments like that reveal that they are a great band in the making. This was a whole year before they started recording Bergtatt, so they grew a lot.
