i do have a question or suggestion for a tutorial...? how do you polish a heavily carved glass surface..? im a wood carver and have been thinking of adding small glass accents to my wood carvings. im stumped on cutting the glass into interesting shapes and also how to polish out the sandcarving marks so the surface is less opaque and has a very nice shine...?...i want to sand carve a small castle and inlay it into a wood carving.
Well, the lap wheel is not useful for cutting. But once your bottle is cut, you can use it to grind your edges to shape. And then you can use it to polish the surfaces. Hope this helps.

Hey William, Almost all the glass that I use comes from my local glass companies. They supply everything from single strength (3/32") to half inch. One company carries 3/4" thick glass. If I need anything thicker, I have to make it myself by u.v. gluing pieces together. Also, sometimes I find pieces of glass that were made into something I can canebalize. I hope this helps. Thanks a lot for sharing your work. I have a question. I am into bottle cutting art work. I Use belt sander for drinding glass bottles. It works fine but it is dry grinding and throws glass dust. Was wandering where to buy these disks of various grits and polishing disk. what horse power motor did you use for this and what RPM. will be glad to get a response from you sir.
+Photopal ddn Hello there, The best way to deal with the glass dust is to run water over your grinding surface. Besides dealing with the dust, it keeps the grinding surface clean and therefore more effective and keeps your glass from overheating. My lap wheel is 24" in diameter but you can find them in smaller diameters all the way down to 6". I buy my discs from H.I.S. Glassworks, Inc. and sometimes off of eBay. Good luck

The video "How I’ts Made Marble Sculptures" shows this at 4 minutes, it's just applied on the surface with a cloth. The video "How to Remove Hard Water Stains" from Build shows it on glass. It's pretty cheap and can be used on wood as well.

Hey Mick, I don't really know of any educational materials when it comes to art glass 9at least in the cold working area). There used to be a fellow, Norm Dobbins who had a school for carving and etching glass but I don't know if they still do that. I got my start by working for a company that did this so that is where I learned. If you can't get hired at such a place or become an apprentis for someone........just watch every TH-cam video you can find on the subject. Good luck.

seems like a waste of diamonds. why not cut away bulk so grinding is minimal?
