There’s two other seasons previous to this one that aren’t on Netflix. You can still do this one first and then go back, but I do gotta say that you’d enjoy it more if you have the context about who all these characters are
This is not episode 1, there is an entire series before this that ends like the day before the first episode of this series starts, it's called Baki The Grappler. Go watch that and come back to this and you will enjoy it FAR more.

This isn't the first Baki season so you're diving in with no context. Baki The Grappler is the first series you need to watch before heading into this one.

ye like i loved 1st and 2nd season more than netflix continuation but i guess that after watching this you can still go back and watch 1st and 2nd season and enjoy it even more to appreciate whole "story" of it.

I never even watch the old Baki, but I already like the anime and I understand that they all have the same motivation and that's throwing hands! And one of the reasons why I Like this anime is because they involved Animals and their Abilities for example the praying mantis one and some science to it. And many more.

Edit: you don't "HAVE" to watch them as the story is just about baki wants to fight his father but it will be better to watch for exposition and knowing characters
what i love the most about baki is how everything is extremely absurd and unrealistic, but explained and narrated in a way that makes it sound plausible and you as a viewer end up believing everything
in Martial Arts, everything is realistic and possible.

Watching Baki for the first time and skipping Baki the Grappler is like watching Dragon Ball Z and skipping Dragon Ball. Yeah you can do it but you’ll miss context on certain relationships fighters have with each other. They might bring up past fights and you’ll be wondering what they are talking about

Dragon Ball its way more arc centered and simple so its kinda ok start with Z. But as i said BY FAR the original is the best Dragon Ball, so skipping him and watch Z and EVEN FREAKING SUPER is very wtf..

Dude, should've started with BAKI THE GRAPPLER, animation is decent, but that series will give you a first look at the side characters like Hanayama, Retsu and others, start with that, then BAKI, then BAKI HANMA/SON OF OGRE

Yo Neel, don't worry about the guys saying you should've watched Baki the Grappler.
This in my opinion is the better route to go.
Baki the Grappler is in more of a prologue style.
It's also a lot older so it's got old animation, making it harder for you to get into the story.
Additionally Baki will explain a lot of the stuff really well.
Baki the Grappler is a bonus, not a necessity in my eyes.

Baki is a fun show to watch but the story itself is the least thing you should be looking forward to, it's not that interesting, the fights themselves & some of the characters are what make this show enjoyable and fun, think baki as like a junk food of anime
"Old Baki" and "Netflix Baki" is like "Dragon Ball" and "Dragonball Z", they are the same anime, one being the continuation of the other, but they are almost a complete different show with the same characters. I understand why people want you to watch the old one first, but is not necessaries for other than being able to say that you have watched. The Netflix series is self explanatory, and they reference and explain things that you would learn on the old series.
Also, the second season of the netflix one use a LOT of CG and the quality isn't great, but they fixed right after so the rest is pure gold.
After reading and watching all of JoJo series, going into the Baki series makes think: Man, this is 100 times more bizarre and more illogical than JoJo. Personally, I prefer JoJo more than Baki 😂

why not start with the first show ? It's called Baki the Grappler ( 1996 i believe ) . Is this one a remake or a continuation ? I'm finishing up season 2 of the original , it's incredible
Pretty sure I read that the artist/writer is gay. I've read the start of Baki and the style for lips started off WAY more effeminate than it is now. Baki retains some of it, but he inherited his mother's looks, so it makes sense. (on why the lips and muscles look 'juicy')
