    The project turned out beautifully. I am not sure how I feel about it on whole, though. If I were the neighbor next door who had both of my windows blocked I don't think that would be very nice. But maybe the neighbor was okay with it? It would have been good to address this aspect of the project - the courtesy toward neighbors.

    So smart. Those units might cost maybe 40k all in. 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 Talk about ROI from Air B&B. Mortgage on the tiny’s plus land could be as cheap as 600 a month. I bet they are cash positive after 5 nights.

    • @ZeoCyberG

      Not when you factor costs of running a rental property... It has to be maintained, it has to be cleaned, it has to be serviced, there's business expenses and taxes to run it, there's cost to insure it, there's cost for utilities, etc. and when you have no guests you have to make enough profit for it to last you until the next guest as some of those costs will be there regardless, especially, if you need it to make a living off of...

    • @BusStopBourbon
      @BusStopBourbon 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@ZeoCyberG You do know that around 95% of all air B&Bs have you pay for the cleaning charge right? If you’re a smart business team which they clearly are, I’m sure they roll in multiple cleans into one payment. And upkeep on tiny homes with tiny appliances it’s not that difficult. We’ve had a condo rental for the last 10 years and operating cost it has been a refrigerator a sink one flood which insurance took care of etc. Trust me these people are maxing out land to rentable income through Air B&B. I have a friend that owns seven Airbnb units and one property that does the least performance still makes 6X the mortgage. So, do a little research there pal.

      @ZeoCyberG 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@BusStopBourbon Sorry but I did, you're analysis doesn't take into account what happens in the real world. No one is guaranteed a steady stream of customers, especially if it's not a high demand area, costs vary per area that have to be accounted for, and it doesn't change there's a long list of other costs you aren't accounting for either. Cost cutting here and there isn't going to cut it for the long term when running a business... There's reasons why any new business takes 3-5 years before they know for sure whether or not they are successful or are doomed to failure, especially in these uncertain times where any business isn't going to be guaranteed, there needs to be a serious reality check on what business are actually going to make in the foreseeable future...

      @@ZeoCyberG Dude, I’m a wedding photographer. People love staying in Airbnb’s and even during this pandemic couples are still getting married every weekend and people are still staying in hotels and especially Airbnb’s. I know people here in Cincinnati that stay in tiny homes as a staycation just to get out of their home during this pandemic. One of my friends is a writer and will drive two hours to small town just to stay in a cute Airbnb to get away from it all and focus on writing. Shit, all they have to do is reach out to vendors nearby and I could see a group of friends booking these rooms out just so they can stay together in the cute little courtyard it’s an absolute win.

      @ZeoCyberG 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@BusStopBourbon Uh, no, hate to break it to you but not every state is in the same condition right now and lots of business are still going out of business because of it... If you follow what goes on sale on listing sites, you'll find a fair number of former AirBNB properties because it did not work out! Costs in Oregon are also a heck of a lot higher than in Cincinnati and places like Portland are hardly a very stable environment at the moment, which isn't ideal for tourism... Riots have caused over $2 billion in damages in effected cities...

      People are too irresponsible. You'd hear about wind gust causing things to land on car windshields, causing car accidents. Like items off a clothesline or a picnic table tablecloth.
      Besides, people paid top $$$ to live on the top floor with no one over them able to hear them talk through the vents or making noise.
      The same can be said for companies occupying the top floor.

      @@wownewstome6123 what kind of terrible insulation do you imagine between the roof and then next floor down? I fully agree with your statement that people are often irresponsible, but i think your attitude is a bit defeatist and you may not be considering enough of the possible ways that something like this hotel idea could work in a top floor roof setting. What if there is 8 foot glass or plexiglass around the entire space, what if their is a 10-20 foot gap between the edge of the building and the space where the tiny homes would sit on the roof, lol and who the fuck would place an outdoor clothes line in a roof top tiny home hotel ;-) or a picnic table??? think about this exact same set up in the video.... What if they took it and copied it exactly and placed a barrier around the whole thing to ensure peoples safety. Maybe make the units a bit bigger and include a small washer/dryer combo to ensure no one has clothing outside on a line (hahahaha, that comment had me rolling)

The tiny house and van life movement are trendy right now, and since some of the hipsters with money already made it a luxury trend, the overall purpose of tiny home living has been defeated. • @TinyHouseGiantJourney
      @TinyHouseGiantJourney  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      We need a solution for that, but I don’t believe it’s tiny houses. They are too expensive to build. We need existing buildings and apartments to be subsidized and/or incentivized, as well as more employment opportunities, mental health programs, day care, and drug and alcohol rehab. Truly ending homelessness in the USA is an expensive endeavor. And many people think the bandaid solution is to build smaller houses. That’s more affordable, yes, but ultimately new construction (even tiny houses) is not a permanent solution for this problem. Also, grouping low income people in tiny house villages is a bad idea. Integration with discretion is the better way to go. When have we ever achieved anything by segregating the less fortunate? Instead let’s incentivize landlords to have 10% of their apartment buildings as low income housing. This way people can truly live without the humiliation and negative connotation. They can integrate into society with discretion and without discrimination. And grouping people together with a history of drug and crime tends to promote relapses. Let’s not. This is my two sense. I have more to say. Perhaps I’ll make a video.

Think start ups and house builds good idea to nurse small to bring life in slow. . .but good "base". . .foundation. Starting things face lots of opposition as after wildfires or school shootings people go on automatic. Cant face things that are new ideas. @ZeoCyberG 4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      That's not wasteful, that's just life... Housing, just like nature, only works when there's a diverse ecosystem that balances everything out. Not everyone needs only permanent housing, lots of people travel and need temporary accommodations, lots of people also need to be able to make owning property more affordable and that often means being able to make use of the property to generate income, rental properties also allow people with limited incomes to be able to live in places where they otherwise could not afford to live as the entire population can't all own homes and there has to be some give and take to make it work... Focusing on only one use is just a good way to ensure it will eventually fail as without meeting other needs it ultimately won't be sustainable or effective enough...

      @@ZeoCyberG That implies we should profit off of housing. Housing is a human right and everyone is entitled to it. Making expensive ass tiny hotel rooms doesn't help anyone besides the leech landlord. Making small housing like this for low income people is a much bigger help to society than some landlord lining their pockets by commodifiying a human right. We can solve homelessness but we choose not to, there's about 22 empty homes per homeless person. We need to nationalize that and house everyone, fuck a landlord or developer.

      @@cameron7938 Sorry but that's not something that would actually work... Everything has a cost but unless you have a system to pay for those cost then it will be unsustainable and will fail... There's no such thing as a magic solution that solves problems just because you say so... Everything you have is because there's a system that provides the resources to give you those things... Solutions have to be real and based on what can actually be done with available resources. Otherwise it's just pie in the sky fantasy that at best will make things worse because you're ignoring reality...
      Like being adrift in a life raft with fellow survivors of a sunk ship, with limited supplies but rather than rationing them you declare it your right to have all you can eat... It's not going to end well that way...
      It's equivalent to saying we don't need supply chains, supermarkets, etc. when most of us won't be able to survive if we could not purchase food and other goods... It just won't work when you ignore all the parts of the system needed to make it work, like it or not there needs to be a system that supports itself. Just like nature's ecosystems... If you don't have a system of balance then the system will fail, period!

      @@ZeoCyberG congrats on a stupid answer and claiming that homelessness is part of a good system we can't fix. I literally said nationalize the empty homes. They're there. We take them. We give them. They live in them. You don't have to make money off of it.

      @@cameron7938 I never said we can't fix the system, but you're the one who is insisting on the way that only insures making it worse... It's like curing cancer by killing the patient with poison... That's not fixing it!... It's like the old proverb, "The road to hell is paved with good intentions"... You're not going to solve a complex problem with a simple fix that doesn't account for everything that is causing the problem...

There is certainly no nature on the rue St André des Arts. I feel fortunate to have the kitchen and an elevator that works.
