its important to note that diamond hill is a hard dig, the red clay sand, will destroy any clothes you where in there, also those huge nice gemmy pieces you see pulled out on youtube is from a private dig done with an excavator. You will find small nice stuff, but the grape jelly amethyst are rough to pull out. I have friends who dig there, I am told you need to dig down in a good spot about 7 feet plus to find the good stuff. I assume this is also an open pit mine, so an excavator goes in and basically turns over the soil to pull up stuff from the bottom to the top periodically. Jacksons Clossing, I am told is a bit better than diamond hill, though, there is talk that if you pull out something too nice, you are not allowed to keep it, which is odd to me, I dont know if diamond hill does the same thing.
I would say Hogg mine in LaGrange GA is the spot to go, ton of blue beryl and rose quartz, some that star ,keep whatever you find.
