I love that even more than any bit we see of him on screen, what really says the most about who Himmel was is "It's what Himmel the Hero would have done." Two decades after his death and that's all the reasoning the two of them need to explain an act of kindness.
I love how much thought went into these episodes. Heiter knew that Frieren had no concept of the fleetingness of time. Requesting that she translate a tome would not be anything significant to her, even if it were to take the better part of a decade. To her, that's a minor chore. She probably spent longer looking for an abandoned ruin or precious tome without giving it a second thought. It's only after she's done and he asks her again to take Fern with her that she realizes how he played her. The show is full of small, clever bits of world and storybuilding like that. Things that just feel... Right. I already consider Frieren some of the best anime has to offer. It's a splendid example of someone coming up with one overall goal for a show or story and then spending a lot of thought and attention fleshing out the world, characters and themes to the point they feel lived in. Last time I felt like that would've been with the likes of Cowboy Bebop, Vampire Hunter: D or the Lord of the Rings trilogy.
This is not explored in the anime, but Heiter as a priest is really talented and blessed, to the point he is probably the healthiest human in the entire story. He is the priest of the Hero's party for a reason.
I've watched dozens of reactors watching this show, and Himmel's passing had some outright crying and the rest fighting back tears. I've had to deal with the onion ninjas myself every single time. Heiter was more afraid of dying because he wanted to give Fern the time she needed to mature in her chosen profession before he died. It's easy to see you understand what the show is about. You should invest in a box of tissues, because it will make you cry again. Those tears will be healthy, beautiful, wholesome tears, but tears just the same. And those of us who love this show, will be right there along with you.

The moment she found the flower tower made me cry like a baby. Also it reminds me why i love playing mage in video games. Especially FFXIV with it's award winning...(please complete the meme yourself). I spent over 1200 hours in the free trial alone bringing almost all jobs to level 60, including 8! different magic jobs. All on the same character. 😁

More people should've watch Frieren. its a anime everybody needed and was looking for .. ive watched a lot (more over 800) and this Anime is rly a peak if its about "Time" and Fantasy. It dont play with your feelings and is mostly straight. Everybody loves the character even only 5 minutes of knowing them. We all crying while watching this Anime. Time is our treasure. you pronounce it right, i can say it as a german :D

Frieren has become one of my favorite animes. The story, art, music, all of it, it’s just great
