BPhillipsDrummer I'm a Caps fan too, and as dumb of a trade that was this is how I ease my mind about it- we wouldn't be able to afford him at this point anyways. Also, if you remember at that time Forsberg and Kuznetsov were our 2 big prospects, and GMGM really wanted to win the cup THAT YEAR, and the only way GMGM thought we could get a player that would put us over the edge would be by trading away 1 of the prospects. So at least it was Forsberg and not Kuznetsov. At some point we would have had to get rid of Forsberg or Kuznetsov for cap reasons(if both their careers played out the way they have), so as long as Kuznetsov is better than Forsberg, which I think is safe to say at this point he is, I feel a little bit better about trading Forsberg away for a guy who scored his first goal of the following season in the 51st game of the season, an empty net goal btw
That trade got Gmgm fired. Gmbm replaced him and got us Oshie for Troy Brouwer. Yeah the hockey gods had a plan for us we just had to sacrifice a lamb (FF) and a boar (George McPhee)
Butch Goring goes to the NY Islanders from the Los Angeles Kings for Billy Harris & Dave Lewis at the trade deadline in 1980. Islanders win 4 straight Stanley Cups and make it to the Finals a fifth straight season (1980-1984). Butch Goring wins the Conn Smythe trophy in 1981 as Playoff MVP
THAT trade, forty years later, is still rightly considered the definitive deadline deal! It's like a measuring stick among NHL teams. The Islanders sacrificed one of their earliest prospects to bring in a player who could do it all. The Islanders were as good as any team in the League; but when they acquired Goring, they found the final piece to the puzzle. They were too good to be denied any longer! And yes, in that '81 final, Goring was as much a nightmare to the North Stars as Mike Bossy was.
what about Detroit got Larry Murphy for future considerations from the maple leafs which turned out to be no one. Murphy became the perfect defence partner to Lidstrom.
Hartford Whalers trade of Ron Francis, Ulf Samuelsson and Grant Jennings to Pittsburgh for John Cullen, Zarley Zalapski and Jeff Parker. Catastrophic for the Whalers and its fans.
To be fair, at the time that deal was made, Cullen had 94 points on the season and was coming off a 92 point season the year prior, only his second full season in the league. I remember (as a Pens fan since 1986) being none too happy the team traded him. While I liked Francis (and he quickly proved me wrong), I was one of many who felt Hartford was getting the best player in the deal. I guess hindsight is a mysterious thing.
From a Pens point of view Cullen was a player favorite at the time and playing great hockey. Still, Francis was much more complete of a player and much more proven of a player. At the time this trade was looked at as a Hartford win. Francis had been striped of his captaincy and fallen out of favor with management for some reason.. Cullen looked to the be real deal. Zalapski was young and very talented. This trade turned into a steal for Pittsburgh and a mistake for Hartford. I loved Francis here in Pittsburgh. We should've kept him. Instead we let him walk so we could sign Nedved..
Thank you Hartford Whalers, but at the time I heard we trained John Cullen and Zarley Zalapski, I was saying and thinking, “we better have got Ron Francis out of this!” as John Cullen was having a great season and becoming a favorite Penguins player of mine-along with Zarley Zalapski. I can still remember going down to the Civic Arena at the time and seeing the scoreboard when Zarley scored-“It’s a Zalap shot!”
Between Marc Savard, Mark Recchi, Alex Debrincat, Martin St Louis, and Hockey Gods know how many other players - has it ever been wise to underestimate a player just for lack of size? Those smaller guys can light the lamp. Even Patrick Kane was considered undersized.
The Blackhawks got screwed so many times during the 90s,lost all of are core, and I cant remember one guy we got back that ended up being much of a player. The Belfour trade was one of the worst, think we ended up getting back Chris Terreri for him.
Very surprised the Toronto Calgary trade from '92 (Gilmour, Macoun, Nattress, Wamsley, Manderville for Leeman, Reese, Godynyuk, Petit, Berube) didn't make this list. The Flames got robbed in broad daylight!!
I remember the Cam Neely trade, talk about a fortune changer for the Bruins. Especially when you consider the pick turned into Glen Wesley and the Bruins eventually got three first round picks for him from Hartford.
Hockey Guy mentioned the second worst trade of all time.....the one in which Ernie Hicke is the answer to the trivia question. I cannot believe he didn't mention the trade that sent Espo to the Bruins.
When the B's traded Ken Dryden to the Habs for basically nothing, *that* was infinitely worse. Not only did they nothing in return, but Dryden would personally haunt the B's for an entire decade, starting with that famous upset of the record-smashing 1971 Bruins, and ending with that famous too-many-men Game 7 in 1979. No lopsided trade was ever more consequential.
FORSBERG FOR ERAT. THIS is the worst trade my Caps have ever made, because Forsberg has become a star in Nashville, while Erat and Latta were puck bags.
@theQuazzz18 Filip Forsberg trade is *NOTHING* compared to... (minus Roy/Gretzky/Jagr/Messier trades) - Detroit trading *Marcel Dionne* to LA - Chicago trading *Phil Esposito* to Boston - Boston trading *Ken Dryden* to Montreal - Chicago trading *Dominik Hasek* to Buffalo - California trading *1st round pick (1st overall pick) turned Guy Lafleur* to Montreal
I'm surprised Colorado had no trades on file. They kinda fleeced Montreal in the Roy trade. And also, when they were still the nordiques, they got Forsberg and A LOT of key pieces to there cup teams, and the flyers got 1 trip to the finals and nothing else out of lindros
@@glaframb at the time it was a bad trade because Montreal simply had become a bad team and if Roy’s play seemed like it had fallen off, it was at least half because the skaters simply weren’t offering much zone defense. Probably Roy if wasn’t in his best headspace either, especially since some jerk he knew well and didn’t like was his head coach, a guy prone to taking shots at his head in practice. Even proven superstars have trouble thriving under those conditions. Anyway, why wasn’t this on the list? I can’t believe it didn’t merit inclusion.
Wrong, New York Rangers got Ray Sheppard for a dollar from the Buffalo Sabres. He played for one year and then was signed as a free agent by the Detriot Red Wings
@@tyrous1743 I stand corrected... it is as you say. That's gotta be some kind of Madela Effect wizardry. I've always remember it as Detroit paying $1 🤔
To Vancouver: Roberto Luongo, Lukas Krajicek (?), and a 6th rounder named Sergei Shirokov To Florida: Todd Bertuzzi, Bryan Allen, Alex Auld Bertuzzi did absolutely nothing for Florida... Luongo was a stud for Vancouver... everything else was the definition of 'throw-in'... ugh...
The worst NHL trade in history? Hands Down it's: May 1967 The Chicago Blackhawks trade Phil Esposito, Ken Hodge and Fred Stanfield to the Boston Bruins for Gilles Marotte, Pit Martin and minor league goalie Jack Norris. Esposito and Hodge instantly became 2/3 of the Bruins #1 line and turned the Bruins into a powerhouse that won two Stanley Cups. If you don't know who Esposito is, you should. Esposito, played 9 great seasons for the Bruins. Phil Esposito was, in his era, nearly as prolific as Wayne Gretzky became later. Espo scored 76 goals and 76 assists in 1970-1971 alone, breaking the goal scoring record by an astounding 18 goals. He was also the first player to score 100 points and held the record for total points (152) for ten years. Esposito is a high tier NHL Hall of Famer, without question. THEN The Bruins traded Esposito after 9 seasons to the Rangers for Jean Ratelle & Brad Park Ratelle played 6 seasons for the Bruins and was a 30 to 40 goal scorer and a 90 point player. Brad Park was 2nd in the Norris trophy (best NHL defenceman) race several times (twice for the Bruins) and scored as high as 79 points in a season in his 8 seasons for Boston. Brad Park, a member of the NHL Hall of Fame, played the bulk of his career for Boston. Ken Hodge who played 9 seasons for the Bruins was a 50 goal scorer, and currently holds the record for points for an NHL Right Winger in a season (105) and did it twice (ranked in one poll as the 73rd greatest NHL Right Winger of all time) and is the 143rd all-time scorer in NHL history. ALSO... Ken Hodge was traded by the Bruins to the New York Rangers for Rick Middleton (a possible future Hall of Famer) who played 12 seasons for the Bruins, (was voted Co-Captain with HOF Ray Borque) scoring 988 points (88th all time in NHL history) and tying Ken Hodge's single season points record for a right winger @ 105, plus being 6th in NHL history for career shooting percentage. Fred Stanfield was a standout performer for the Bruins on their 2nd line scoring at least 20 goals and at least 30 assists a year for each of the six seasons he played for the Bruins ALSO... Fred Stanfield was traded by the Bruins to the Minnesota North Stars for goalie Gilles Gilbert who played for the Bruins for 7 years and was Vezina Trophy runner-up in 1980. ON THE OTHER HAND: Jack Norris played in all of ten games for the Black Hawks over two seasons. Gilles Marotte played two and a half seasons on defence for Chicago, scoring 10 goals and 63 assists before he was traded. Pit Martin was a genuinely good player who had 10 seasons for the Blackhawks he scored as much as 90 points once for Chicago. Arguably Martin was a shade better than Fred Stanfield a good player but Stanfield was one of the least players garnered by Boston in the entire timeline of "The Worst Trade in NHL history" In the final analysis as a result of that 1967 trade the Boston Bruins garnered the services of TWO Hall of Famers ( Esposito and Park for 9 and 8 years respectively) an elite Right winger and 50 goal scorer in Hodge for 9 years, a top ten scoring center man in Ratelle for 6 years, another truly elite right winger and Co-Captian in Rick Middleton for TWELVE years. and a good second line center/winger who was 9th in scoring in 1970-1971 for 6 years (Stanfield) AND a guy that became their #1 goaltender (Gilbert) for 7 years. Chicago essentially got Pit Martin (a good second line guy) for 10 years, and not much else.
I'd like to point something out... "Ken Hodge who played 9 seasons for the Bruins was a 50 goal scorer, and currently holds the record for points for an NHL Right Winger in a season (105)" If you're implying that Hodge is the CURRENT leading NHL RW scorer. I can call out that bullshit in a second :D 149 - Jaromir Jagr, Pittsburgh 147 - Mike Bossy, NY Islanders 136 - Guy Lafleur, Montreal 135 - Jari Kurri, Edmonton 132 - Guy Lafleur, Montreal - Teemu Selanne, Winnipeg
Wrong. Hands down it is trading Ken Dryden for Paul Reid (who?) and Guy Allen (who??), neither of which ever played a game for the Black & Gold. The same Ken Dryden who would personally haunt the Bobby Orr Bruins for the entire 1970s from beginning (1971 Conn Smythe upset of the Bruins) to the bitter end (*that* game seven)
Rob Blake and Steven Reinprecht for Deadmarsh, Aaron Miller, Jared Aulin and 2 Rd1 picks (Dave Steckel and Brian Boyle) While this trade could've worked for the Kings, Deadmarsh retired 2 years later cause off head injuries and Boyle was traded to the Rangers after playing very little for the Kings. Avs won the cup that year.
Deadmarsh was a stud for the Kings until that point. Kings were not contenders so you can’t really say they lost the trade simply because Blake was a key contributor to Colorado’s victory that season. I’m wondering where the Patrick Roy trade is in this list. Unless it’s strictly deadline deals, that one is one of the most infamous trades in pro hockey history.
Russ Courtnall for John Kordic was pretty lopsided. St Louis traded Geoff Courtnall, Cliff Ronning (a couple of BC boys), Robert Dirk, and Sergio Momesso for Garth Butcher and Dan Quinn. I don't think Quinn ever wanted to play in Vancouver. I hated to lose Butcher...he was a tough SOB, but those pieces Pat Quinn brought in really helped the Canucks during the 1994 run.
The Doug Gilmour trade is another one Calgary Flames fans cringe at. Toronto: Doug Gilmour, Jamie Macoun, Kent Manderville, Ric Nattress and Rick Wamsley Calgary: Craig Berube, Alexander Godynyuk, Gary Leeman, Michel Petit and Jeff Reese
Seguin And Rich Peverley (ret 2015 due to health issues) for R.Smith (traded to fla with savard's contract for jimmy hayes 2015) L.Erikkson (signed with van 2015-16) and Matt Fraser(claimed off waivers by edm) + Joe Morrow (still with boston)
Marner and Nylander were both drafted by the Leafs before Kessel was traded. You didn't mention the fact that we traded the draft pick we got from Pittsburgh to get Andersen though.
The trade of Phil Esposito from the Black Hawks to the Bruins has already been mentioned in the comments. Also mentioned in this discussion was Toronto trading speedy sniper Russ Courtnall to the Canadiens for the beleaguered, ill-fated John Kordic. As a Habs fan; allow me to offset that above deal. Five years earlier; Montreal sent Rod Langway(!), Doug Jarvis, Craig Laughlin, and Brian Engblom to Washington in exchange for Ryan Walter and Rick Green. Once this deal was made; the Capitals finally started making the playoffs. The Habs got had.....BAD!
Caps giving up Forsberg for Erat will hurt them for years watching him kill it in Nashville and ultimately was big getting Preds where Caps still cant this or any years cup finals
Calgary had another one. Too many players to list in the deal but the main figures were Gilmour to Toronto and Leeman to Calgary. Absolutely brutal then and in hindsight. A Doug Risebrough special.
Worst trade in modern NHL history. It's not possible to find a team giving up exactly what they needed and getting back the last thing they needed in any other trade. A future star on a rookie deal for an overpriced 3rd liner and a 4th liner, on a team that had an abundance of overpriced bottom-6 guys already... what the fuck was GMGM thinking?
Boston trading in their 70's powerhouse from Chicago comes to mind. Mike Milbury.. That guy made a Rangers fan chuckle constantly. He traded Bertuzzi, Luongo, Jokinen, Chara and alot of others for... Nothing.
@@Dingosean Finley, by his own admission, knew absolutely nothing about hockey. He was a baseball tycoon all the way. He changed the team name, the colours, and then made the Seals' players wear those ridiculous white figure skates! WTH was he thinking?!!
How about the 1990-91 Pens as having made nearly every perfect move possible that year. Every trade and signing they made paid huge dividends. The main reason Patrick is In Hall. *First they draft Jagr 5th overall. *They sign Trottier as a free agent. His offense has past him by but he's the perfect 3rd line center..and he's Bryan Fuckin Trottier.. *They trade a 2nd rd pick for Joe Mullen.. Still in his prime, just older. *They trade Johnson and Dalquist for Larry Murphy and Taglianetti! Murph was awesome.. *Jagr starts getting home sick so they trade Jim Kyte (depth dman) for fellow country man Jiri Hrdina, who's a better player than Kyte anyway but helps calm Jagr and keeps him happy. There were rumours he might go back to the Czech Republic. That trade paid off immensely. Hrdina was a solid player too. *Then.. They trade Cullen, Zalapski, and something named Jeff Parker for Francis, Samuelsson, and Jennings. STEAL.. Those moves made that team a Stanley Cup team.
The Minnesota North Stars getting Dave Gagner and Jay Caufield from the New York Rangers in return for Jari Gronstrand and Paul Boutilier was pretty lopsided in favor of Minnesota.
No Columbus is odd because they got Bob from the Flyers for cheap and then Flyers got Vorecek, Nick Cousins and Couts for Carter who was flipped to LA months later. Wild got Dubnyk for i believe a 3rd rounder. At the time he bounced around but pretty sure every team in history would give up a 3rd rounder for a guy putting up the stat lines he has with Minny
The question is how much would be changed if pronger never left Edmonton? I would be willing to bet we never would have got 4 1st overalls, because even if we ended up trading pronger we would have got enough back to have some talent to compete
Just for the record; that deal was made during the Jets' lame-duck (no pun intended) season in Winnipeg. Had the team not been moving; it would've been the most unlikely trade.
M.L.S. NHL Trades of all Time??? Really?? So, what happened to all of the NHL's lop-sided deals made between 1926 to let's say the mid Eighties? What a crock...
I believe a decade earlier; they traded Dave Christian for a first-round selection who turned out to be Bobby Dollas. Not much better. Oh, and do you remember when Kris Draper scored from center ice on Red Light Racicot?! LOL!
A lot of people mentioning Erat-Forsberg and...yeah, it is hard to oppose that when Forsberg is a beast. I think it was definitely wrong to sell him for Erat, but was it wrong to sell him in general? Nobody knows how he would pan out in Washington, maybe his talent would get killed off, who knows. It's kind of hard to tell since we can't know what would have happened. Someone mentioned that Kuznetsov was their other great prospect, maybe if they kept Forsberg, they would have ended up selling Kuznetsov, their current top center...all I am saying is that nobody can be sure of what Forsberg would have been in Washington. But yeah, trading him for Erat was a joke.
The Johnson/Gleason trade might look like a fleecing on the surface, but it made sense for the Canes since Johnson made it perfectly clear that he would not sign with Carolina. Gleason ended up being one of the Canes' more consistent D-men during his tenure there, plus was a respected leader an fan-favorite.
A lot of Caps fans look back on the Jagr era with disappointment and disdain - and they aren't wrong. Jagr admitted he wasn't giving 100% (piece of shit), BUT.... I mean, even the worst version of Jagr, given what we gave up (nothing, essentially nothing) was a steal. (Although with his cap hit, we weren't able to build around him the way we needed to in order to build a winner. Would've been easier had he tried harder; he definitely wasn't worth his contract, and that's coupled with the reason for that - because he didn't want to be - is the reason for the disdain for Jagr and that era. But c'mon, trading 3 non-NHLers - and I think a draft pick - for a top-6 guy is a steal.)
Murphy was very good for the Capitals, but was unappreciated by the fans. At the time, the Caps had a young Scott Stevens and Rod Langway in the middle of his 2 Norris Trophy seasons. They needed more offense on the point which Murphy gave them. The fans were hard on Murphy though because he didn't play physically like Langway or Stevens did. I thought he was adequate defensively though and there were a couple years with Washington I thought he should get Norris consideration. On the power play, towards the end of his time with Washington, fans would yell whoops when he got the puck at the point, because sometimes it would skip out of the zone from his stick. It could have been due to the crummy Capital Centre ice because they shared the arena with the NBA Washington Bullets. I thought this was very unfair and it may have impacted his confidence. Well he did win some cups with the Pens and Wings and he is a Hall of Famer so maybe he got the last laugh.
Montreal worst trade ? They made tons of bad trades . The worst one to me is the one that drove me away from liking the habs and becoming a senators fan. Roy and Mike keane for Thibeault, rucinsky and kovalenko. They basically gave the cup to Colorado
how did it pend out for both? Lindros was a good player but "Traded from Quebec Nordiques to Philadelphia Flyers for Chris Simon, Mike Ricci, Kerry Huffman, Ron Hextall, Peter Forsberg, Steve Duchesne, future considerations, round 1 pick in the 1993 draft(Jocelyn Thibault), round 1 pick in the 1994 draft(they traded this pick to Toronto) and cash" not that good.
Justdean Lindros was really a powerhouse of a player. When he was in his prime, there was nothing defensemen could do to stop him. He was faster than Mario. He hit harder than Mario, he was bigger than Mario. Only thing where Mario stood ahead was the finesse (no one had Mario's hands, except Mario). There's a reason why Lindros is in the Hockey Hall of Fame. Only ones that could eventually stop him were 2 defensemen called Larry Murphy and Nicklas Lidström in the 1997 SC finals. And Lidas never ever made mistakes. They basically held the puck, whenever The Legion of Doom was on the ice. It was the only way to win against Lindros, Leclair and Renberg. On the other hand.. If Philly could've held on to Forsberg (like they wanted to), they would've won that trade.
BlueOrchid34 yeah bc he wanted Mario type money and we were paying Mario that already couldn't afford jagr so we had to trade him but we could have gotten mote
Yeah. Its one thing to have a great player. Its another thing to have a great player and have to pay him great player money. Thats what that trade was all about.
I went to the same high school as Doug Lynch and his 2 brothers. I only went to school with his youngest brother at the same time though, who I believe was drafted by colorado
I'm late to the party, but the Evander Kane trade was a blockbuster for chevyldayoff and the Winnipeg Jets. BUF aquires : FWD Evander Kane + D Zach Bogosion + G Jason Kasdorf (Who?) WPG Aquires: FWD Drew Stafford + FWD Joel Armia + D Tyler Myers + FWD Brendan Lemieux + 1st Round Pick (Jack Roslovic) I don't think there's a single Jets fan who thinks that was a bad trade. Stafford was a UFA and didn't stick around long. Myers is one of our mainstay defensemen and I think him alone, 1 for 1 would have been a good trade. Joel Armia we had to give up to eat Mason's cap hit, but he played some great hockey for us. Brendan Lemieux still might make the big club this year, and he brings some sandpaper with a scoring touch. And Jack Roslovic is shaping up to be one of our best prospects. I suppose you can argue that's less Buffalo's mistake, and more Winnipeg's stellar draft year. Kane I feel never lived up to his potential. At least, I don't think he's worth those assets. Bogosian also had to go, he was a bad fit.
i think the seth jones for johansen trade worked out great! I will admit that its never a good idea to trade away a #1 center but jones has been pretty good in columbus while the wheels fell off johansen a bit in nashville although he is still a key player over there (sure missed him when he was injured in last years cup final)
Shannon, you skipped over Colorado. What about the Patrick Roy trade? Roy and Keane for Rucinsky, Kovalenko and Thibault. Habs still haven't recovered from that one. Ouch.
You're wrong about that Carolina deal. Tim Gleason turned into a great top four defensive dman who was tough as shit, made the USA Olympic team in 2010. And we got rid of jack Johnson, which turned out to be a positive. Oleg T was expendable, he wasn't in the top 6 during the 06 playoffs when we won the cup.
It's been mentioned, but the Seguin trade. Stars get Seguin and Peverly for Loui Eriksson, Reilly Smith, and Joe Morrow. Loui was good in his time, but had injury issues, Smith was good but not what the Bruins had hoped for, and Morrow never really forced Boston to play him. Seguin is always leading the Stars in point totals (except for Benn's Art Ross) and Pevs WOULD have been very good (minus the AFib). Stars really fleeced Boston. If Pevs hadn't been forced to retire, the Stars would still have both pieces, while Boston would have 0.
Cam Neely wasn't developing in Van because you cant develop if you dont play. Thanks to coach Tom (Idiot) Watt, a good coach for boy scouts but not pros.
Serge Savard forcing Lafleur to retire is the “worst” trade that was never made… lose lose. Luckily enough, the Habs had enough talent still to get to the finals 3 times nearly after, winning on 2 occasions.
Anybody who wants to defend the Kessel trade, should have their hockey fan card revoked. Tyler Seguin and Dougie Hamilton ALONE is too much for Kessel, and we also gave them one more first rounder. Leafs are lucky that 3rd pick didn't turn into someone at least as good as Hamilton, or else that trade would go down as one of the absolute worst in NHL history, like probably top 3
The Ken Dryden trade was the most lopsided, and it isn't even close. Two career minor leaguers for a future hall of famer who would personally curse the Bruins for an entire decade. If that trade doesn't happen, Boston finally beats their accursed Canadiens in 1971. And probably win in 1978 and 1979 as well. Never trade with your archnemesis!

Cole Jordan Don’t matter now #ALLCAPS
@theQuazzz18 Filip Forsberg trade is *NOTHING* compared to...
(minus Roy/Gretzky/Jagr/Messier trades)
- Detroit trading *Marcel Dionne* to LA
- Chicago trading *Phil Esposito* to Boston
- Boston trading *Ken Dryden* to Montreal
- Chicago trading *Dominik Hasek* to Buffalo
- California trading *1st round pick (1st overall pick) turned Guy Lafleur* to Montreal
Det - Ray Sheppard (lit it up along side Yzerman)
NYR - $1
Shh. I'm still pissed at that trade :D
Wrong, New York Rangers got Ray Sheppard for a dollar from the Buffalo Sabres. He played for one year and then was signed as a free agent by the Detriot Red Wings
@@tyrous1743 He was drafted by Buffalo then went to NYR then Detroit paid $1 for him. Isn't learning fun?
@@tyrous1743 I stand corrected... it is as you say. That's gotta be some kind of Madela Effect wizardry. I've always remember it as Detroit paying $1 🤔
To Vancouver: Roberto Luongo, Lukas Krajicek (?), and a 6th rounder named Sergei Shirokov
To Florida: Todd Bertuzzi, Bryan Allen, Alex Auld
Bertuzzi did absolutely nothing for Florida... Luongo was a stud for Vancouver... everything else was the definition of 'throw-in'... ugh...
The worst NHL trade in history? Hands Down it's:
May 1967
The Chicago Blackhawks trade
Phil Esposito, Ken Hodge and Fred Stanfield to the Boston Bruins
for
Gilles Marotte, Pit Martin and minor league goalie Jack Norris.
THEN The Bruins traded Esposito after 9 seasons to the Rangers for Jean Ratelle & Brad Park
Ratelle played 6 seasons for the Bruins and was a 30 to 40 goal scorer and a 90 point player.
Fred Stanfield was a standout performer for the Bruins on their 2nd line scoring at least 20 goals and at least 30 assists a year for each of the six seasons he played for the Bruins
ALSO... Fred Stanfield was traded by the Bruins to the Minnesota North Stars for goalie Gilles Gilbert who played for the Bruins for 7 years and was Vezina Trophy runner-up in 1980.
ON THE OTHER HAND:
Jack Norris played in all of ten games for the Black Hawks over two seasons.
Gilles Marotte played two and a half seasons on defence for Chicago, scoring 10 goals and 63 assists before he was traded.
Pit Martin was a genuinely good player who had 10 seasons for the Blackhawks he scored as much as 90 points once for Chicago. Arguably Martin was a shade better than Fred Stanfield a good player but Stanfield was one of the least players garnered by Boston in the entire timeline of "The Worst Trade in NHL history"
In the final analysis as a result of that 1967 trade the Boston Bruins garnered the services of TWO Hall of Famers ( Esposito and Park for 9 and 8 years respectively) an elite Right winger and 50 goal scorer in Hodge for 9 years, a top ten scoring center man in Ratelle for 6 years, another truly elite right winger and Co-Captian in Rick Middleton for TWELVE years. and a good second line center/winger who was 9th in scoring in 1970-1971 for 6 years (Stanfield) AND a guy that became their #1 goaltender (Gilbert) for 7 years.
Chicago essentially got Pit Martin (a good second line guy) for 10 years, and not much else.
MISTERComaToes meh
Right... Yer funny.
I'd like to point something out...
"Ken Hodge who played 9 seasons for the Bruins was a 50 goal scorer, and currently holds the record for points for an NHL Right Winger in a season (105)"
If you're implying that Hodge is the CURRENT leading NHL RW scorer. I can call out that bullshit in a second :D
149 - Jaromir Jagr, Pittsburgh
147 - Mike Bossy, NY Islanders
136 - Guy Lafleur, Montreal
135 - Jari Kurri, Edmonton
132 - Guy Lafleur, Montreal
- Teemu Selanne, Winnipeg
Rob Blake and Steven Reinprecht for Deadmarsh, Aaron Miller, Jared Aulin and 2 Rd1 picks (Dave Steckel and Brian Boyle)
While this trade could've worked for the Kings, Deadmarsh retired 2 years later cause off head injuries and Boyle was traded to the Rangers after playing very little for the Kings.
Toronto: Doug Gilmour, Jamie Macoun, Kent Manderville, Ric Nattress and Rick Wamsley
Calgary: Craig Berube, Alexander Godynyuk, Gary Leeman, Michel Petit and Jeff Reese
i started an nhl 2003 franchise and eric daze was a 95 overall and dropped to 80 in my forth season.
Guess his back also gave out in the game.
2001 Jagar deal was a salary dump if I remember correctly Pittsburgh was almost going bankrupt back then.
Pretzel Boi now morrow and hayes are gone so boston officially have no pieces left of that trade
I remember the Canes trade with LA just a matter of Carolina trying to purge Tverdovskys salary.
well as a leafs fan I have to say, if we didnt do the kessel trade we wouldnt have kapanen,Marner, nylander and Mathews today
Robert Buckell but we would've had Tyler seguin, dougie Hamilton etc not to mention all the other dumb trades that we paid stupid GMs to make
Well, you could have a franchise goalie in Rask :)
Marner and Nylander were both drafted by the Leafs before Kessel was traded. You didn't mention the fact that we traded the draft pick we got from Pittsburgh to get Andersen though.
@@11DNA11 They had Rask - but dumbed Him to Bruins ! I just wonder if - Toronto would have done any BETTER ?
I dunno, I thought the Dougie Hamilton trade was utter robbery.
Gretzky became the Coyotes head coach in 2005. Briere was traded at the deadline to the Sabers in 2003.
Was thinking that Briere played quite well in the Yotes. 60 points in 01-02.
Sept 1991
Tor - G.Anderson, Berube, Fuhr
Edm - Damphousse, Ing, Richardson, S.Thornton, $, futures
Jan 1992
Tor- Gilmour, Macoun, Manderville, Nattress, Wamsley
Cal - Berube, Godynyuk, Leeman, Petit, Reese
Caps giving up Forsberg for Erat will hurt them for years watching him kill it in Nashville and ultimately was big getting Preds where Caps still cant this or any years cup finals
Yokes27 lmao, how the tables have turned
Wonder how that looks now...
Its still a bad trade
I am surprized the Bishop Trade did not show up for Ottawa
Calgary had another one. Too many players to list in the deal but the main figures were Gilmour to Toronto and Leeman to Calgary. Absolutely brutal then and in hindsight. A Doug Risebrough special.
Our idiot GM trading Forsberg from The Caps to Nashville.
Nothing.
San Jose never been in a lopsided deal???
What about Craig Rivest vs. Defensive D Josh Gorges and 1st Round Pick that became Max Pacioretty?
What about California Seals (that team was located near San Jose) trading 1st round pick turned 1st overall Guy Lafleur?
Pacioretty should have never been taken low enough for sj to get him anyway so that's moot.
@@cloudsopowera6248 that was because Charlie Finley barely knew that hockey took place on ice...
Francis, Samuelsen. Jennings for Zalapski is an absolute steal.
Yeah, and Bryan fucking Trottier could probably STILL play. He was that solid.
How does this list not mention the Gilmour trade for Toronto? That was pretty lopsided for the leafs
Roy and Keane for Thibault, Kovalenko and Rusinsky
Roy was forced to be traded. So they couldn't get full price for him.
Omg I had no clue Selanne traded for so little
The question is how much would be changed if pronger never left Edmonton? I would be willing to bet we never would have got 4 1st overalls, because even if we ended up trading pronger we would have got enough back to have some talent to compete
Just for the record; that deal was made during the Jets' lame-duck (no pun intended) season in Winnipeg.
Had the team not been moving; it would've been the most unlikely trade.
M.L.S. NHL Trades of all Time??? Really?? So, what happened to all of the NHL's lop-sided deals made between 1926 to let's say the mid Eighties? What a crock...
"... a lot closer to still being, uh, abysmal, but not as abysmal." LMAO I love your phrases!
Thank you Milbury for both Jokinen and Luongo. One of the best goal scorers in the 2000s and a future hall of famer in the same trade.
Winnipeg Traded Kris Draper To Detroit for $1
I believe a decade earlier; they traded Dave Christian for a first-round selection who turned out to be Bobby Dollas.
Wow. This is a really good and informative video. Subbed!
Sometimes - When it hurts to talk - You need an expert to tell the background & details ! Otherwise It makes ALL LOOKS SILLY !
Jagr to Washington...awful - Pens fan
Still a horrible trade regardless
Didn't really work out for the CAPS either.
Beech, Lupaschuk, Sivek. Literally nothing in return for a 29 (i think) year old Jagr. Unreal.
Jagr still had 20 years left in his career. Lmao
Sitting here waiting for Courtnall - Kordic in 1988. Curse you Stellick 😫😖
Montreal worst trade ? They made tons of bad trades . The worst one to me is the one that drove me away from liking the habs and becoming a senators fan. Roy and Mike keane for Thibeault, rucinsky and kovalenko. They basically gave the cup to Colorado
Jean-Marc Labelle In fairness to Montreal on that one, you can never get proper market value for a player demanding a trade
what about Leafs trade Russ Courtnall to Montreal for John Kordic
Burns for setoguchi?
That was pretty bad :D
Sharks also fleeced them for dany heatley
How is the Eric Lindros trade from Quebec to Philadelphia not on this list.
The Sports Nerd because it kind of pend out for both
how did it pend out for both? Lindros was a good player but
"Traded from Quebec Nordiques to Philadelphia Flyers for Chris Simon, Mike Ricci, Kerry Huffman, Ron Hextall, Peter Forsberg, Steve Duchesne, future considerations, round 1 pick in the 1993 draft(Jocelyn Thibault), round 1 pick in the 1994 draft(they traded this pick to Toronto) and cash"
not that good.
Lindros was a dominant player till he got concussion problems. and the Nordiques moved to Colorado so for the city of Quebec the trade sucked.
Justdean
Lindros was really a powerhouse of a player.
Lindros never played for Quebec. He refused to go there, and they had absolutely no choice but to trade him.
1992 Toronto/Calgary Doug Gilmour
Jagr out of Pittsburgh was terrible, but I'm pretty sure the Penguins were cash strapped... that was the old NHL before Sid the Kid came along.
BlueOrchid34 yeah bc he wanted Mario type money and we were paying Mario that already couldn't afford jagr so we had to trade him but we could have gotten mote
BlueOrchid34 more
Yeah. Its one thing to have a great player. Its another thing to have a great player and have to pay him great player money. Thats what that trade was all about.
wallytuber agreed we still could have gotten more in return
Didn't Jagr also say it was like being dead the last few years there?
Edmonton: why not bring up the Gretzky trade? It was awful. Jimmy Carson? WHO?
How do you not mention the Thornton trade, even seguin trade
+Englishjaffa Neither were listed on the site. I will make my own list for sure.
BUF aquires : FWD Evander Kane + D Zach Bogosion + G Jason Kasdorf (Who?)
WPG Aquires: FWD Drew Stafford + FWD Joel Armia + D Tyler Myers + FWD Brendan Lemieux + 1st Round Pick (Jack Roslovic)
I don't think there's a single Jets fan who thinks that was a bad trade.
How is Roy and Keane to the avs not on there? I know Roy wanted out but why rhrow in the captain and amazing two way player?
Another upload wow keep it up!
Daryl Sydor for Andrei Svechnikov
i think the seth jones for johansen trade worked out great! I will admit that its never a good idea to trade away a #1 center but jones has been pretty good in columbus while the wheels fell off johansen a bit in nashville although he is still a key player over there (sure missed him when he was injured in last years cup final)
patrick roy and mike keane (the habs captain at the time) for jocelyn thibault, martin rucinsky, and andrei kovalenko
Rick Nash and Buch for Anisimov Duby Erixon and Rychel I would say was a fleece or perhaps Gaborik for Dorsett Brassard John Moore
Oh boy, the Jagr trade. Penguins fans still give Capitals fans like me crap for fleecing them there, among other reasons.
Ken Hamada I'm a pens fan it's our own fault for it we said deal
Shannon, you skipped over Colorado. What about the Patrick Roy trade? Roy and Keane for Rucinsky, Kovalenko and Thibault. Habs still haven't recovered from that one. Ouch.
1967 Boston Bruins biggest steal was getting Esposito, Hodge, Stanfield from the Blackhawks for Martin, Norris and Marotte!!
Scott Gomez for Ryan McDonough, oh bergervin we got ya there.
Ryan Branigan Bergevin wasn’t the habs gm when that trade got made
i think its funny how many future number one goalies the flames had and some good top forwards to
You're wrong about that Carolina deal.
Yer cat needs to get his/her own yt channel!!!
Boston and Calgary were on both sides of lopsided trades so they can't complain.
Cam Barker for Nick Leddy and Kim Johnsson
Cam Neely, one of my all -time fave players.
And I guess the Stars still have Pevs, because he's in the system as Talent Development.
Suprised the Lindros deal isn''t there since Forsberg for Lindos was a fair deal but the flyers threw in a ton of other thing
hockey guy your hockey knowledge is on point
Oilers traded Miro Satan for peanuts. God no wonder we were garbage for so long after trades like that. 😂
You did get into the SC finals when you got Pronger. I was rooting for you guys, because i liked Dwayne Roloson :)
His Lastname - was a REAL KILLER !
Cam Neely wasn't developing in Van because you cant develop if you dont play. Thanks to coach Tom (Idiot) Watt, a good coach for boy scouts but not pros.
how the crap is the Zarley Zalapski, John Cullen for Ron Francis, Ulf Samuelsson (and Grant Jennings) trade not on this list?
you should do that, you should load MAD mike Milbury's trades. And I know you wanted to say it MAD Mike
very cool unique video idea
Serge Savard forcing Lafleur to retire is the “worst” trade that was never made… lose lose. Luckily enough, the Habs had enough talent still to get to the finals 3 times nearly after, winning on 2 occasions.
Thornton to San Jose was a lopsided trade?
How about Toronto trading Kenny Jonsen and a pick that became Roberto Luongo for (the return of) Wendell Clarke.
Col - Patrick Roy, Keane
Mon- Thiabalt, Rucinsky, Kovalenko
I miss those navy-copper Oilers jerseys :(
Anybody who wants to defend the Kessel trade, should have their hockey fan card revoked.
Chicago getting Martin Havlat for Mark Bell was a steal.
didn't mike Ribeiro get in a scrap with captain Koivu in practise or something?
Had read that the reason the Wings moved Adam Oates was that Oates was sleeping with the owner's daughter.
The Joe Thornton trade
The Tyler Seguin trade
The Taylor Hall trade
They were all lopsided
The Seguin trade should have been there
The Ken Dryden trade was the most lopsided, and it isn't even close. Two career minor leaguers for a future hall of famer who would personally curse the Bruins for an entire decade. If that trade doesn't happen, Boston finally beats their accursed Canadiens in 1971. And probably win in 1978 and 1979 as well. Never trade with your archnemesis!
