OG aoe2 did have the cannons. I also put the tc on the berries at first, then coming back 2 years later I transported beyond the walls dodging the tower arrows. at some point I noticed song having very low score and only have a few vills with 1 tc so delayed or killed them first putting my base there while getting the cannons. It's a good learning campaign. If you really want the old experience you have to zoom in like crazy.
I really wish you would do all campaigns and make video out of them! At least u also get guaranteed topic for ur videos aswell. Also ur videos are really helpful!! Thanks for sharing ur knowledge Sir!
Woo hoo!! so excited to see more campaigns! I would love to see a full series in order (maybe 2 missions per video or something) or if you wanted to play some of the historical battles next that would be fun. Also be sure to check out the CO-OP campaign feature, those could be a lot of fun running it with someone
I beat this when I was 11 without tutorial or those bombard cannons, the way I did it was by making a sneaky zigsaw puzzle near my castle outside of jin's base then baiting him out to die to my castle fire or get converted and then slowly grinding my way to killing all units or converting them. If you make full walls they attack them but if you make a zigsaw puzzle they keep trying to reach you. I loved this campaign, in the first one I converted ghenghis khan to my team and used him to win fast, in second campaign I converted kushluk instead of killing him to win.
@@tomscorpion6288 You change your diplomacy and attack him, he attacks back and you keep him busy long enough for the disappearance trigger to fail then he stays there like sitting duck till you come back to convert him
Hey - great to see you return to campaigns again. Just letting you know, the no villager lost achievement, despite only very few people having it on steam, is not actually that tough to get (most of the new achievements are at 0,1% - 0,3 % simply because very few people have played the new campaigns AND are hunting for achievements). I'm not sure why this one is the lowest at only 0,0% (I got it on my second try, and I'm not a very skilled player), as it is very much so not the most difficult of that bunch to obtain. The hardest of the new ones would propably be "Harder Than a Speeding Cannonball", which requires quite a specific approach to its mission, though its not that tough to execute once you have a good plan for it. The "classic" for difficult achievements (and propably still the hardest) would be "Rome Was Destroyed in One Day", for the mission "The Giant Falls" in the Alaric campaign - the level itself is not difficult to complete at all, but the timer to get the achievement, especially on hard, is tough and can challenge even an experienced player. I'd be interested to see if you could do it first try. Other than that, I heavily recommend playing the Jadwiga campaign. If you only want to do a specific mission, the best is propably "The Siege of Vilnius". Challenging, unique, fun, and part of the campaign with the best storyline in all of AoE2.
Great video! Thanks so much! When I played this campaign I always felt that the wonder was built so fast! In this video it seems they take forever, that’s the difference between a pro and a LEL 1111
really funny that I thought the same way as young Hera / used the same strategies back in the days. pretty sure I used to TC in the blue's base, but then found it to cramped to look nice, so i moved to TCing near the berries to build a nicer-looking base.
Loving this series and what you have currently planned - definitely want to see you do Saladin 6 by crushing all opponents. Some ideas of what else I'd like to see you play would be Suryavarman I 4, Tariq 2 & 5, Jadwiga 4, Rajendra 2, 3 and 5, Prithviraj 5... So many cool ones to do, and imo some of the hardest ones in the game.
Definitely a nice series !!! We want to see more campaigns !!! LOL this one was nearly impossible for me at the MEDIUM level...........watching Hera going through while chatting and telling stories.........so satisfactory 😅😅😅
Hey Hera, thanks for continue the campaign series I'm loving this videos, I wonder if you could possibly try to beat the mission number 6 of the Mongols but with one extra condition, don't let the enemy take down the bridge.
I just beat that mission yesterday lmao nice timing Yeah, I put my TC on the left side since that's where every resource patch is, and just razed everything to the ground with a bunch of Mangudais, 6 Siege Onagers and those Bombard Cannons you get by exploring.
I also had trouble on this mission when I was younger too, and I had no idea about those bombard cannons until this video lol. I got PTSD when that wonder popped up on the mini map also.
Yeah I remember struggling with this campaign in conquerors expansion, it was 75 pop. I kept reading guides etc, and eventually beating it by saving game a few times. Also started out where the berries are
9:45 I definitely made my base on the island when I 1st played, but I always eyed expanding into the mainland. 12:20 I always stopped at 50 vils for some reason back in the days too lol. I hella valued the blacksmith upgrades, the wheelbarrow and handcart though. I always liked having my individual units pack a lot more punch rather than just massing and zerg with weak mobs. And now you clean house with your new found tournament pro skills lol, made that look way too easy.
I was like 6 when I first played these campaigns in 2002. Always built just one TC and one of each military building like you lmao, made everything so much harder and slow. I always spammed the hell out of towers and castles though.
I played this on normal difficulty as a kid and beat it, though just barely, in part because that wonder was such a pain. I've been working on all the campaigns on hard since I started my journey learning all these skills from this and other channels on TH-cam. I beat the Mongol Campaign on hard this year (still lost to the wonder first haha). Just so you know, if you had crossed the water right where your dock is (going straight to the corner on the right), you would have encountered no or very few towers. That's how I eventually ended up successfully landing with villagers who made a castle or two and military production buildings to push into yellow's base. The rest of the mission isn't as hard and mostly just takes time, but in the later phase of the mission I too always forget about the cannons. When it comes to building the first town center on this map, I always put all the units back on the transport to make a town center by the gold, stone, wood, and boars. In campaigns I always see such areas and think "Ah, I'm supposed to build the town center here". I did this as a kid and as an adult, but clearly staying on the island at first works just fine too and saves time. When you did that I immediately noticed that island is very defensible too and has easy access to fishing, so where you build first has its tradeoffs.
When I was a kid I would listen to the movie that plays before each of the scenarios even if I watched it many times. Also you have to find the siege engineers for this one. they are super helpful
When I was a kid (probably around 8-9 years old) I thought that this mission was made wrong and it was impossible to win (also had no idea about bombard cannons). When I came back to AOE2 at around 16-17 years I think I did beat it and had huge issues with yellow (found out about bombard cannons for the first time). Then I came back once more at the age of 22, it was still difficult, but not that much anymore. Now I am 30 and I haven't been playing AOE2 since DE came out, I don't know if I would struggle or not, probably would be pretty average (I wouldn't try to get through the wall and then attack yellow, I would rather invade him first with army and castles on his side, probably destroying him before the wonder would even be built).
Nice to watch a pro doing that mission. I build a DC at the top of yellows island and also some castles. Rushed him with Triboks and bring down his Wonder. I think he never build a second one.
That's so much fun to see a pro player playing the campaign. Especially how you JUST doing things and I am like... oooooooh Casually building that starting TC on the woodline without destroying the enemy one first? I am sure 99% of players haven't played it that way 11
I recommend going for the 100% achievements on Steam. So much fun and unique ways to play. I’m currently at 92%. Especially the Atilla achievements are super hard!
i used to run a single light cav to get those cannons and then they would clear all the towers off of the great wall and hsi hsia would not retaliate they changed it DE and now they come and snipe the cannons
I totally started by making my base in the North area at first and always got raided to death until I started turtling in Blue's old base until my eco was developed. Man, that was 25 years ago!!
Love the campaign series! Nice to get the pro s view on some things ! If you are looking for other campaigns for content, i m struggling pretty hard with the sizilian (2mission) campaign :D
The original Age of Kings campaigns having a 75 food cap on all missions was so brutal back then. Genghis Khan's "Into China" level being one of the hardest playing at just 75 food. It's one of the few missions that had the biggest food increases by being doubled up to 150 in DE.
In case you are going to do more campaign missions, it might fun idea to check out if there are any steam achievements related to the mission (like this one where you need to beat Jin before they construct their wonder). Because, for real, can you really pat yourself on the back and say "good job", when you haven't beaten the mission "the cool way", like "all the cool guys" :)
What I did was build a castle and a few stables on the island, using mangudai protect the builders, then finish up your army and kill jin. Best part of this scenario is the wall didn't even look like this until the Ming dynasty; it had more holes and was more rammed earth.
ok i dunno why they didn't do it here but normally yellow also goes all out on water with ships as well and there was like almost no early aggression.. it's so weird sometimes becuz for me it feels like AI is behaving different every game
9:40, i made it in the exact same bloody spot. I think it was the fish and berries. I redid it after I played years of competetive and I made the tc in the same spot you did this video.
La Noche Triste with the Aztec campaign is a fun mission. You gotta sneak around then build a base and stop the wonder. I wouldn't mind seeing that done for the series.
I remember the hardest campaigns were where you only have a fixed amount of army, like in Joan of Arc where you have to cross the whole town with what you get at the beginning, you had to micro it really good
Me and my brother could also never beat this campaign, like 10 years ago, we used to make like 5 vills coz we thought making more is a waste of resources which we could use for military instead😂😂 and we barely even reached to castle by the time jin starts building the wonder, it looks ridiculous to see now😂 we would always lose to the wonder, that too on easy difficulty
9:42 Memory blur but i still remember that i built it right in the blue settlement. More or less just want to get TC set up and have forward base immidiately. For some reason other thing i remember is passing through lots of farm and Green settlement to destroy China haha Edit : Don't worry. I think i don't get that bombard as well, either i didn't get them or i did but forgot to use them 😅
The first time I tried this level, I snuck my units through the middle to rescue the bombard cannons and built my base in the far west, northwest of red's base, because it looked like the most conveniently defensible position that had enough resources to work with. Defense wasn't too hard, but by the time yellow had his wonder counting down my navy wasn't large enough to take out his coastal defenses and break in to destroy the wonder. On my second attempt, I rescued the bombard cannons and then walked them back through the middle of the map, onto the transport, and onto the far northern end of yellow's island, then very carefully ground through yellow's base from north to south and built my base on the ruins of his base. The remaining three AIs don't really use ships at all, so I built up a massive navy at my leisure, flattened everything within range of the water, then built a proxy base on top of red's base and cleaned out everything else with mangudai and trebuchets.
I think original campings were harder in the original aoe, I remember in the AOK version was a harder difficulty, sadly DE version AI does weird things
I brought the villagers back the very first time with the transport and made my base near the berries! I didn’t realize it but if you left Blue alive at the start they eventually can boom up and attack you haha
10:00 - I placed the TC at the same spot as blue on my 1st play in AOK. On my 2nd play I transported the villagers to the west and placed it on the berries.
Super easy method for this one I found was, kill blue then hop in transport land northeast at yellow. Set up a base there. Use skirmish, teens and horses to wipe out the base. Buy your way up to imperial selling wood
I can't believe the Jin guy didn't say, "What do people living in tents know of the world culture?" as the wonder starts. Maybe he says that after the wonder is completed? I too found this to be a really hard campaign to play, but these days (even for me at 1000 elo) this is an amazing campaign to play. I still never advance over castle age, just to make sure I can play the game as close to the original campaign as possible. :-)
Yeah youre right. On the AOE2 HD edition, the yellow make the wonder in the first 15 minutes of the game. Thats whats make it super harder to beat. Another thing is that the army ou have on the start is not that much. Its like 3 calvary archers, the mangonel and a trebuchet
are you sure about that ? i remember otherwise and 2015 wiki agree with me on 40 min timer mission was overall harder (+ 75 pop cap) but trivial if you cheesed it by moving east
This mission was what I played 11 september 2001, Europe so early afternoon, so that memory stook around. I remember cheesing the wonder with a wave of petards send in from a transport ship from the river. No idea how that should be done before Conquerers. AoK did not have petards. Never found the bombard cannons. All I did was turtle and then spam unique units, which works quite well with the mongols :p

Man I love these coming of age (AOE) stories about you. Reminds me robots can be human (/s). Respect
9:56 I built my TC across the river due to the gold being over there!
So I did this as well.
I don't usually watch your content but its rather relaxing to watch you do the campaign on the second monitor ngl. Thanks for the chill vid.
Faaack same for me, this campiaing its why I love so much this game, and why I come back after years to plays again
Gaming that dumb AI! Nice
How did you convert Genghis Khan in the first mission? It's a hero unit and it disappears before you have a chance to get a monk.
@@tomscorpion6288 You change your diplomacy and attack him, he attacks back and you keep him busy long enough for the disappearance trigger to fail then he stays there like sitting duck till you come back to convert him
Honestly it was my first ever AOE campaign and I thought if I converted him I get to keep him for next level
@@LalitChawla-b8y It's not possible, though.
SOOOO cool to hear that from you. Imagine the journey you took from there.
I love it. and I´m only 1minute into the video.
This was sick to watch. And really strong timing, I've been stuck on this for a while, suddenly have new ideas for how to beat.
Loved those campaign videos, its so nice to see different experiences and different maps, so nice!
LOVE CAMPAIGN VIDEOS. PLEASE DO MORE
Love campaign content. I'm playing staff on standart, but even that mongol invasion gave me a headache on such level
We all suffered from WonderEffect on this level XD
So entertaining to watch you dominate these scenarios, more campaigns please!
Definitely a nice series !!! We want to see more campaigns !!! LOL this one was nearly impossible for me at the MEDIUM level...........watching Hera going through while chatting and telling stories.........so satisfactory 😅😅😅
Thank you hera you make this video 😢❤
Hey Hera, thanks for continue the campaign series I'm loving this videos, I wonder if you could possibly try to beat the mission number 6 of the Mongols but with one extra condition, don't let the enemy take down the bridge.
I just beat that mission yesterday lmao nice timing
Yeah, I put my TC on the left side since that's where every resource patch is, and just razed everything to the ground with a bunch of Mangudais, 6 Siege Onagers and those Bombard Cannons you get by exploring.
Amazing work man!!
I always used the wall in my favor, only replacing the gates by my own 😁
(but never beat on hard anyway haha)
WOOO I love the campaigns that Hera plays! Keep em up Hera!
I also had trouble on this mission when I was younger too, and I had no idea about those bombard cannons until this video lol. I got PTSD when that wonder popped up on the mini map also.
As a mainly campaign enjoyer. i LOVE autofarm
More videos like this please! Also, please get all the rarest Steam achievements! Seeing a PRO doing this is fascinating!!
Yeah I remember struggling with this campaign in conquerors expansion, it was 75 pop. I kept reading guides etc, and eventually beating it by saving game a few times. Also started out where the berries are
I love when you do campaigns!!!
I really like that kind of content. please make more !
That's so much fun to see a pro player playing the campaign.
Especially how you JUST doing things and I am like... oooooooh
Casually building that starting TC on the woodline without destroying the enemy one first? I am sure 99% of players haven't played it that way 11
I recommend going for the 100% achievements on Steam. So much fun and unique ways to play. I’m currently at 92%. Especially the Atilla achievements are super hard!
loving the campaign videos
9:05 YESS I went back every single time like its what we were supposed to do
Keep em coming Hera, we love this.
i used to run a single light cav to get those cannons and then they would clear all the towers off of the great wall and hsi hsia would not retaliate
they changed it DE and now they come and snipe the cannons
I totally started by making my base in the North area at first and always got raided to death until I started turtling in Blue's old base until my eco was developed. Man, that was 25 years ago!!
Love the campaign series! Nice to get the pro s view on some things !
If you are looking for other campaigns for content, i m struggling pretty hard with the sizilian (2mission) campaign :D
these are by far my fav AoE2 videos now
The original Age of Kings campaigns having a 75 food cap on all missions was so brutal back then.
Genghis Khan's "Into China" level being one of the hardest playing at just 75 food. It's one of the few missions that had the biggest food increases by being doubled up to 150 in DE.
You cannibal! Vils aren't food :)
I loved this campaign so much as a kid too. Got me into making custom scenarios all day every day
I've actually been stuck on this one for a little bit. It makes me feel a little better that Hera had trouble as a kid.
Enjoying the campaigns. Would love to see you playing through a custom campaign sometime like the War of The Flames one or something.
9:40, i made it in the exact same bloody spot. I think it was the fish and berries. I redid it after I played years of competetive and I made the tc in the same spot you did this video.
12 year old me did the same thing too haha. This was very nostalgic, thank you!
For some reason other thing i remember is passing through lots of farm and Green settlement to destroy China haha
Edit : Don't worry.
Good point. I think the campaing itself wasn't harder but the fact that in DE is more stable makes aok and aoc more difficult
I brought the villagers back the very first time with the transport and made my base near the berries! I didn’t realize it but if you left Blue alive at the start they eventually can boom up and attack you haha
24:15 Hera: "No one really dies to siege ram"
Watching you run a campaign mission is a cool change of pace
Thanks for those campaign videos
10:00 - I placed the TC at the same spot as blue on my 1st play in AOK. On my 2nd play I transported the villagers to the west and placed it on the berries.
Heck yeah, more campaigns! The nostalgia is strong with this one.
Its like 3 calvary archers, the mangonel and a trebuchet
are you sure about that ?
i remember otherwise
and 2015 wiki agree with me on 40 min timer
mission was overall harder (+ 75 pop cap) but trivial if you cheesed it by moving east
