Heavy firefight French Army vs Talibans Afghanistan 2010

  • Bedraou valley, Kapissa Province, eastern Afghanistan close to the border with Pakistan.
On March 5, 2010, elements of French 13th Chasseurs Alpins battalion (13e BCA) of the 27th Mountain Infantry Brigade are going back to their vehicles. As in many occasions, Talibans awaited for the departure of Western troops to attack. In perfect calmness and discipline, the French Chasseurs kept the Talibans at bay while getting back to their VABs (armoured personnel carrier vehicles).

I'm Canadian but I've never looked at the French as cowards. Even when they were occupied, they still put up one hell of a fight. The thing I love about the French, is that even if they are down on the ground they will always keep fighting, even against insurmountable odds. You are one of the allied greatest of all time.

@@abusalim4752 hahaha your head has always been rather large but come on buddy....If by "humiliate" you mean wait until nato leaves and then take back power from other Afghans then I wholeheartedly agree with you. Furthermore Abu, I am no fan of nato myself nor do I believe any western nations had any right to even be in Afghanistan to begin with. I will even go so far as to say that I respect the military prowess of the Taliban and Afghans in general. I also think that the Taliban did exactly what they should have done and considering their resources they did a damn fine job of it.
I suspect that you and I do not disagree regarding that matter. My initial comment did not have anything to do with the matter of Afghanistan and given the context of the video I can easily see why you may have thought otherwise. My comment pertains to a common misconception amongst keyboard warriors that the great nation of France is militarily weak and or cowardly due to WW2. It couldn't be farther from the truth but I'm not going to go into all of that here.

@Teobaldo Praslin If that's only what you see, let us describe more in details what is in this video, you can see a combat group with a perfect "ordre de bataille" (order of battle). They are fighting insurgent/taliban on foot (so basically taliban infantry), and you rarely win battle with infantry fighting infantry, you fight infantry with fire support which are machine guns, mortar, artillery, missiles...
This squadron is a "600" that means, in french army organization, they are heavy infantry support, they have 5,56 mm Minimi machine gun, rifle grenades, infantry grenade launcher, rocket launcher AT4 and anti-tank rocket launcher LRAC for combat up to 600 meters (you can hear "600 à vos appuis" which means basically "600 get your guns").
The whole squadron is regrouping to allow for heavy artillery fire support to clear the area, they have spotted the talibans, they just needs to pin them with small arms fire while artillery will do the job, and that's what you get in this video :D.
You have artillery support from 00:10 till 13:43, you can find the detail below so you can have a "better look to this video" :D, the combat group is supported by AMX10RC tanks with 105 mm canon, 81 mm mortars and maybe 120 mm mortars, 20 mm canon, 12,7 mm machine guns (.50 caliber), Milan missiles and 30 mm canon from helicopters.
You don't need to send men in the fight when you have such mighty fire support...
00:10 : 105 mm canon AMX10RC, used maybe because it is more precise while the squadron is too close to the enemy.
00:34 : taliban start their attack
01:35 : 105 mm canon, while the squadron regroup
    02:26 : 105 mm canon
    03:02 : Regroup is completed
03:04 : Mortar are announced within range
    03:05 : 105 mm canon
From this time to 03:53 : Multiple 81 mm mortar
    03:54 : 105 mm canon
    04:09 : 105 mm canon
04:13 and 4:16 : Enemy bullets hitting water and ground, you can even see the nozzle flash of 1 sniper
    04:25 : 81 mm mortar
    05:21 : 81 mm mortar
    05:24 : 12,7 mm machine gun
    05:31 : 81 mm mortar
    05:39 : Milan missile
    05:42 : 81 mm mortar
    06:05 : 105 mm canon
    06:12 and 06:17 : 12,7 mm machine gun
    06:32 : 81 mm mortar
06:41 and 06:50 : 105 mm canon (@06:50 you can even hear the shell fly by above their heads)
    07:05 : 12,7 mm machine gun
    07:07 : Milan missile
    07:17 and 07:22 : 12,7 mm machine gun
    07:25 : 105 mm canon
    07:28 : 12,7 mm machine gun
    07:39 : 81 mm mortar
    07:40 : 12,7 mm machine gun
    08:18 : 105 mm canon
    08:25 : 12,7 mm machine gun
    08:29 : 81 mm mortar
    08:35 : 12,7 mm machine gun

    • @Nettempereur
      @Nettempereur  2 ปีที่แล้ว +14

No need of imagination, this happened quite a lot and this is still happening today (even if it has diminished substantially). And the worst is that, even if the cheese-eating surrender monkey joke was first used in the Simpsons in 1995, it became very popular in US/UK/CA/AU/NZ only in 2002 and since then because France opposed the invasion of Iraq.
So basically, our country and our soldiers have been mocked because we did our duty as friends, telling them the truth even when it's hard and unpopular (so, precisely when friends matter most). The US mainstream media and hugely powerful cultural industry defamed us for that. The US attacked Iraq, spread desolation and carnage in all the region for no improvement at all (even strengthened the jihadist cause in many ways) before eventually realizing how wrong they were. But I must say, to be entirely honest, that there have always been a lot of American citizens too who have either supported us or, even if they agreed at first with the invasion of Iraq, have kept respecting us. As you correctly said it, those attacking us are mostly keyboard warriors, or trolls.
However, at political level, nothing really changed after that. The US left Iraq in 2011. They never was any political improvement in the US foreign policy, they have never taken bigger care of French or other allies' different views. There never was any excuse of course. It has always been and remained "USA first and the other trash just must follow". This is the reason why many in France have desired to leave NATO. When we make a strategic alliance with Australia, in order to help organizing the protection of the Pacific against Chinese appetite, they fucked us in the back, making AUKUS and France has no part in it. When we say that Erdogan's Turkey is a problem, when they targeted one of our frigates enforcing an UN resolution, NATO looked away and Turkey was left unpunished, despite its role supporting jihadists in Northern Syria and despite its violent actions against the Kurds who had helped Western countries against ISIS. Go and find local allies all over the world after everyone saw how the West left down the Kurdish fighters in Syria and in Iraq. On the other hand, Putin did save Bachar al Assad at whatever cost. The world sees where to look to for proper safety. This is why Macron said that "NATO is brain-dead". And when, since the early 2000s, we have said that we must change our approach with Russia, that we must attach them to Europe, which means that we must stop threatening them by expanding NATO, there was a fucking good reason too. We refused Georgia and Ukraine in NATO in 2008 for a good reason. Alas, we never managed to convince the US, the UK and eastern Europeans who have historical enmities with Russia (for understandable historical reasons, I know but we need to build peace and not to linger on the past). And now, the situation is beyond our help. Russia has lost all trust in all of us, attacked Ukraine for whatever reason (true or fake), the Europeans are just accepting to be vassals of the US in order not to be eaten by Putin and Ukrainians will never be free before a very long time (I guess Moldova has a lot to worry about too).
So, honestly, there can be still some keyboard warriors attacking us but we will always respond with our best weapon : truth. And if they try and tell me that we were too coward to come to Iraq, you see that I am able to tell them how fucked up they are in their little minds.

yes indeed, but you can also feel their stress by the swearing and how they "insult" each other ("putain, fait chier, merde, criez pas tous là). When they talk to each other their language is very precise and concise. You can also hear them asking to their comrade "are you ok? are you ok ?" .

      @Nettempereur  6 ปีที่แล้ว +53

Thank you for your comment ! No the French do not use the MG3 but the FN Minimi (Herstal) as you see in this video. I think they have both 5.56 and 7.62 models, but 5.56 is the most widespread. Minimi is replacing the old AA-52 machine guns we have used since the 50s. Also they have the FN MAG (still Herstal, in 7.62mm) which first equipped helicopters and vehicles and we see more and more in infantry versions. Also obviously, the heavier Browining M2 in 12.7mm (= .50 cal), always reliable for a century lol

      @@kurtkoban470 Exept Afghanistan isn't a "war" it's more a civil crisis.
If it was about detroying your opponent, Afghanistan couldn't stand a single night against any big country
Remember the 6 day war with Isreal? They fought against Irak, Syria, Egypt, Liban and Jordan; who all gathered to make a big push all together on Israel. They got crushed in 6 day.

@@TheLaptel USA still in Afghanistan... longest war in USA history. They haven't won that war they never will, they can never fully control Afghanistan, same as British, Same as soviets, same as mongols, same as Alexander. They were all able to invade but never fully control it. Mongols first big loss was in Afghanistan which showed everyone that they are beatable

      @@kurtkoban470 But it isn't a normal war. It's a civil war.
That change everything, USA could easily kill every afghan citizen in a few days; and im not even talking about nuclear weapon.
Afghanistan war is a politcal war more than anything else, it's opt about crushing your ennemy, it's about improving on people everyday life, especially education, so that the tiny amount of them (5 to 10%) who are litteraly brainwashed by daesh and other religious terrorist group stop joining them.
Also it's not the longest war at all.
What about cold war, war against native, war against spain and mexico, and nicaragua ?

@@TheLaptel You can never defeat Afghans, it is impossible they are the toughest, hardiest and bravest people in Asia. (If you count Chechnya being in Europe). Fighting the Afghan & Iraq war precipitated the collapse of ‘07. That collapse marked the end of the US as being the sole power, and ushered in a multipolar world. The ‘07 collapse seriously wounded you a couple more and you’ll be a second rate power like the UK, France, China or Russia
      .
Tell that to Cyrus, Alexander, Kushans, Turks, Arabs, Mongols, Timuris etc etc
And who knows what was going on there during prehistoric times.
