So many festivals!! But also: "Birdlime is the name for a sticky substance, usually made from holly bark or mistletoe, which is spread on branches to trap wild birds intended for export or trade." SO ANGRY.
At first when I saw this comment I was like why are these in quotes and when the video progressed and I reached that part I was like "OOOoooOOOoooOOOoooOOO"
Beautiful stop motion animation commenting on the difficulties animals that get smuggled face and how what may seem like kindness by some - feeding or nursing the animals - leads to more trouble in the long run. 5 stars.
@@MrCastellanosDavid Saving the bird made it a viral sensation, prompting more and more people to buy them, which led to the situation that put the bird there in the first place. I think it could've been avoided by keeping the bird out of sight?
Engaging story and animation, when you realize the bird actually severed the finger of the one that saved it....wow and yet it bore the bird no grudge.
This was so beutifully done! But I really think we should give 7:01 some more attention. That keeping the bird the way he does is basically advertising it and making more people want to buy those birds which supports the cruel business that got the bird there to begin with, making more birds ending up like it did (or worse)
Having worked at a zoo aviary for two years, it was sad to see so many visitors come out saying “I want a pet parrot!” Instead of “I want to protect wild parrots!”. I sometimes wonder if putting animals on display like that does more harm than good.
Birdliming, the practice, is illegal in the EU, but still goes on quite openly in parts of Spain, where it's used to catch thrushes for local delicacies.
The fact that this is stop-motion is incredible. I love everything about how these cute birds move!! Also the part where they unwrapped each other's bandages?!
This is fantastic. Sharing insta photos etc of exotic species creates a buyers boom and a huge increase in poaching. Just because its cute, doesn’t mean it should be shared.
This... this is incredible. As a self taught stop motion animator, I know how much time and effort goes into just a minute of animation, and mine aren't even a fraction as complicated as this had to have been. The movement was so fluid as well. Fantastic work on the animator's part.
This is so accurate.. It's the representation of how some people go and imitate the life outside their motherland, the way they communicate, interaction, everything. and when they come back, they lost their first identity, which can be good or bad.
Congrats Evan and Phil! You guys are doing the industry a great service by keeping Stop-Mo alive here. People see the passion for the art in your work and they know it's legit. This was a great watch, thank you!
I love everything about this film! The message (don’t buy birds), the story, the sounds, the puppets, the movements and the dancing! I am a bird lover and laughed really hard at the dancing as it really mimics what bowerbirds do when grooming. Just Perfect! The kind of movies Disney should make with the money they have! I don’t want realistically looking fur or eyes with an old story I want to see a foreign world/style and new stories!
The bird became a viral sensation, causing more and more selfish, shallow people to buy them which led to the situation that put the bird there in the first place: stealing them from their natural habitats. Sigh.
This is a heartbreaking story. It’s about bird trade, but it also goes deeper than that. Generally, it is about abuse and recovery (the victim’s never going to be the same though)
gotta love how the description says this is "kid-friendly" meanwhile in the first three minutes a poacher has ripped the leg off a bird and a bird bit part of a human's finger off complete with a little bone and meat peaking through
Amazing quiality stop motion animation! The story, while compelling is also very informative, I love it when creative things are like that. The quality of this animation is astounding. And I love every thing about this ❤❤
A fantastic animation with delightfuly wonderful characters. I absolutely love the sound production, the cheery little love song was so sweet. I have not stopped recommending this video since I first watched it!
At first I thought it was rude for him to not let people take photos of the bird But then I read the description And I realized oh wow that actually makes sense, good on him
@@thelegend47896 He reattaches it! You can see the bandage on it through the middle of the film, and then it heals around the same time as the bird's leg
That's what bird lime is. A sticky goop to trap birds, and other critters. It's such a cruel practice, as you saw here at least a broken wing and a ripped off foot. Trafficking is disgusting. This is why it is SO critical not to purchase exotics. If you really need something exotic, look into sanctuaries for adoption.
Bad. No matter how we interact with nature. It seems we, humans, have extracted ourselves from nature so much, that even our good deeds come to a bad outcome. We interfere, no matter what. We destroy, no matter what. Still, hope is, that our intentions might some day bring nature and human kind back together. Since nature can appreciate our good, even though we have ultimately fiddled with it and, in a sense, destroyed what once was. Well, maybe the ending is half and half.
Actually theres an actual species of bird that can actually do what this bird does called the "Lyrebird" and when they mate they make sounds from their collection of sounds (including other birds sounds) instead of their own...interesting ain't it?
This was wonderful. Although I kept on getting distracted by the birds' song that sounds just like Steven's ringtone (and song) in Steven Universe S2E01 "Full Disclosure"

To more trouble? So then rather then save the bird just let horrible people control them?

Natalia i agree, as sweet as this story is.
Truly a comment of all time
I can't stop thinking about the bird who lost a leg. 😕

Same here. Also what happen to those birds?

Sadly this cruel treatment happens with so many pets on demand after they rise in popularity. Exotic or not.

This is such an adorable and clever film. I wish I could meet the owner of the hand and give them a hug :)

probs not :(
