The Death Traverse // Climbing The Wedge, Sedona

- The lonely sandstone summit stood patiently for years without a visitor. There is a reason this mountain top sees few visitors. The summit is guarded by the intimidating death ledge that turns around the very few that can even find it. The wait is over as the backcountry duo gets out to make an attempt to summit and claim "The Wedge".
That is one of the most miserable, terrifying hikes I’ve ever watched. That scared me and I was just sitting in my easy chair.
I hope we didn't scare you too much! Thank you for watching!
I'm laying in my bed and I almost had a heart attack watching it
I understand climbing, the high the climber gets from climbing, but why film it?
@@bradgilchrist-wy5gnwell...if anyone was thinking about attempting this climb, they are now well informed about the dangers, and challenges of the terrain.
Dear god, why do you want to do this!?
That’s the closest to a panic attack I’ve ever been by watching a video! All I kept saying was F THAT over and over! The quality of this video should win an award!!!
Lol nice! When I saw the ledge pinch and get narrow all I could think was F***. Thank you very much for saying that, and thank you for watching!
I am envious os people who are not afraid of heights. This isn't enough money in the world to get me on this...Congrats!!
Thanks for taking us along. Now I don't feel the need to go. We live in an amazing world with so much so many never see. Go Pros and drones have opened a new world for many of us that can't go along
The loose sloping rock ledge with zero protection really scares TF out of me and I used to climb all over the US in my youth
This is the hardest video I've ever watched! My palms are dripping wet, and all I did was watch you guys. There's nothing anyone could give me that could get me to do that "hike" but it was crazy watching you guys. Maybe you should hike in wingsuits? I wish you great luck on all your future hikes!
Thank you for watching! I love the wingsuit idea! Thats so funny! I thought about that today actually 🤔
The most terrifying gut-wrenching hike I've ever watched in my life!! I had to turn away a few times my heart couldn't take it.
Have hiked in Zion and other parks… I’m by no means a risk-taker, and the narrow ledge and abundance of loose rock on The Wedge would’ve had me turning back. Great video, thanks!
No kidding. I felt sick just watching.
I could feel my heart rate increase during this. Even though it was terrifying, I really enjoyed your footage from all the different angles and being able to see your experience. I love doing scrambles and a little bit of exposure but not nearly like this. Exhilarating. Thank you for sharing with the rest of us who will likely not be doing this, ever😂
I'm so glad you enjoyed the video! Thank you very much for watching and I appreciate your comments!!
This is very scary. By seeing this, my heart is coming to my mouth. Hats off to the duo. Really terrifying.
I wonder who first did the wedge. Thats insanely beautiful and dangerous!! Glad both of you got down safe. The camera work was top notch.
Thank you! That means the world to me.
To watch you guys do this hike in short sleeves, back packs and a camera in your hand and show no anxiety or fear just blows me away. What's in your veins? Great tape! Thank you for sharing it!
The death ledge starts and I’m thinking that’s not so bad and then suddenly it’s like OMFG… when I saw the rocks fall underneath your feet that literally sent me over the edge 😱 So glad you have nerves of steel and lived to tell the tale!!
Right?! The ledge is a couple feet wide at first but then it really pinches in. Scary, but I love it! Thank you so much for your comment and for watching!!!
You guys are absolutely nuts! I held my breath watching you walk The Wedge going. Then coming back I sped forward to skip that part. Great video footage of the canyon. Thank you!
I don’t know what was more gnarly, the ledge or the bushwhacking.. nice video, great upcoming channel it’s going to grow so fast just don’t let that affect your decision making!
Man, I had sweaty palms. It makes Angels Landing at Zion seems like a walk in the park. Good work.
The problem is when you usually climb things people will say "don't look down" but with walking this incredibly small ledge you HAVE TO look down because you can't put a foot wrong, I would never choose to do something like this
Exactly, forced to look down. Terrifying
Well now this was a very interesting video and that ledge was incredibly narrow with a lot of loose rock. Only a mountain goat would choose to walk that Ledge, there is absolutely no way that I would ever have attempted that.
its always hard to watch these videos cause on one hand I love watching people explore new places and push their limits, but on the other I'm nervous for people who will undoubtedly try this same route and unknowingly step on loose rock or make a costly mistake.
Amazing, terrifying…did I mention terrifying? Superb video work & great climbing. Awesome to have another post from you! 👍
From a soaking wet Washington resident, that was one of the coolest hikes I’ve ever seen!
That ledge was super scary ! I was literally sweating watching
Amazing. So beautiful. Thanks for sharing
That definitely had some pucker factor going on. I really enjoyed that. I would want to sign that log and see those views. Awesome !
I REALLY appreciate yall doing this crazy climb with such excellent videography since it is literally the only way I'll experience it 😂. Man, that looks fun, but my nerves had me shaking just watching the video.
Such a crazy climb. I've got over 150 hiking videos all across north america if you are looking for more.
Thanks for sharing. Please be safe!
Wow just WOW! Absolutely unbelievably terrifying. Yet you have my utmost respect and admiration for completing the Wedge. The video edits were fantastic and great background music/audio. Cheers
Thank you!! I really appreciate your kind comments Cory. Thank you so much for watching!!!
@@codiacstudiosCory said it well ! This is amazing
Thats amazing. You guys are insane. Great job!
i wonder how many people have slipped and fell off that ledge. that was crazy
It reminds me of the Hangover trail. We did that last Feb but i would never do this trail. Thank you for sharing.
Awesome hike, the ledge was very scary for me but the rest of the hiked looked like a lot of fun. Great video quality and narration.
WOW WOW 🤩 you guys are crazy!
Man you guys are insane, I had to close my eyes when y’all were going over those narrow ledges. Great video. Watching from Amarillo, Tx.
Thank you so much for watching!!!
Nonostante sapevo che riuscivate nell' impresa di questa folle escursione,ho temuto il peggio!Da infarto!Cmq, grandissimi complimenti...siete dei fenomeni!💯
Wow That Is Incredible Thank You Guys For An Awesome Challenge
Since I was young I never been afraid of heights I'm so comfortable up there. I remember I went hiking one day with one of my cousins he couldn't do he froze his legs started to shake. Heights is not for everyone
Too bad it's not a loop, how terrifying to have to go back down the same way!
Right?!
Incredibly brave and great camera work!
That was awesome guys, thanks. Now I don't have to do it lol..the narrow ledge section with the loose rocks is the deal breaker...bravo guys!
Great video. Glad I ran across this. Totally in awe of your willingness and ability to take this on. And superb videography. Really well done, guys. Thank you for capturing and sharing this adventure.
I'm so happy you found this video and enjoyed it. It means a lot to me. Thank you very much for watching and for your comments.
as a Climber, this scares me more than actually climbing a multi-pitch route. Basically it is just walkn/hikin but one wrong move and your gone. While climbing I might get hurt, depending on the route, but I am not dead haha.
crazy
Gorgeous and impressive! I'm sitting here in Scottsdale watching you guys and I'm enjoying similar weather, but I feel totally lazy compared with what you are doing in it!
Great video! You guys are so brave!
I can think of another word.
Very brave. Hero status
Well now this was a interesting video and a most terrifying narrow ledge. Only a mountain goat would choose to walk that narrow of a ledge with loose rock everywhere. No way would I ever under any circumstance attempt to walk a ledge that narrow and probably instant death if I was to fall.
Wow, that was intense! Thank you for sharing your adventure, it was pretty awesome... Omg, on your way back I realised I was leaning to the left at about a 45 degree angle 😆
That is awesome! 😅 Thank you so much for watching!
Sweet route! For those of us who love exposure, Seneca Rocks in West Virginia has a route similar. It's a 5.6 grade, so you'll definitely need climbing skills and protection if you desire to try it.
I've climbed all over the US and was never as terrified as the day i did that route.
Been there, it’s amazing
@@dkjazzz you climbed at Seneca Rocks?
You’re both adorable! Glad you made it as my heart was in my throat the whole way! Whew! 😎
That's amazing, congratulations you both
Super film and amazing scrambling ! Congratulations 👌✌👍
I appreciate that! Thank you so much for watching!
I've been living and hiking in Sedona for 20+ years now, never heard of this particular hike. I'll have to check it out. Thanks!
Maybe just hike up to the beginning of ledge !
New Subscriber here -- What an intense video. I look forward to exploring your other videos and seeing what you do in 2024! Thanks for sharing your adventure.
Thank you for Subscribing! I'm glad you enjoyed the video! 2024 is going to be an amazing year full of great adventures.
Awesome adventure. You guys make great partners. That’s some serious exposure amid loose rocks
Thank you! That means a lot!
Incredible hiking video. Exposure filled trail and you guys laughed it off
I am 79 now. When I was 19 I climbed Mt Yamnuska near Banff. It could have ended there. Much to risky. Glad I made it through those years. Recommend taking other risks. The climb up Yamnuska was the Grilmeir Chimney.
Wow, that was challenging on many fronts. Not only did you need sure footwork it was a real mind set doing that ledge, twice! On top of that all your battles with the vegetation. Well done to you both for perseverance and keeping your cool. Not surprising so very few have climbed that mountain before. Coming down looked terrifying. Awesome.
Definitely was challenging mentally and physically! We are familiar being close to the drop offs. The experience Definitely helps to keep your cool. Thank you so much for watching!!
My heart is pounding! Don’t think I would see anything but where my feet are stepping.
I've done very similar traverses in the canyons of Utah.
Just watching this is making my palms sweat.
Absolutely Terrifying guys! Glad you made it thru with no issues..Incredible POV camerawork
Thank you so much for your nice comments! Thank you for watching!
Im not an experienced hiker. When I was in Utah I got into a couple situations where I was frozen and not sure how to proceed.
Absolutely Absolutely breathtaking scenery everywhere.
Southern Utah is very similar to Sedona. Just a lot less vegetation.
Holy crap was that scary. My hands were constantly sweating throughout your climb. Awesome
You guys are crazy, when i hiked the kalalau trail i thought it was terrifying. This seems crazier.
Kalakau? Is that on one of the Hawaiian islands?
@codiacstudios yea, it's on kauai. I'm surprised you haven't heard of it. It's one of the most beautiful hikes in the world. Definately a bucket list hike I highly recommend if you are not affraid of this type of thing. At the end you get to a beautiful beach with a waterfall that is only accessible by boat or this hike. Permits required, they are hard to so plan in advance. My wife had no problem but I was shaking like a leaf at Mile 7 "crawlers ledge."
@@codiacstudios Kalalau trail 👣
@alexanderanghel7946 That sounds incredible! Definitely on my bucket list now. Thank you
I would have probably never been able to make the hike, much less the climb!
Sedona’s finest. Yikes! 😅 Exhilarating. (gulp).
Nice work and a beautiful film. Thanks! ✌🏻
I'm so glad you think so! Thank you very much for watching!
So scary for me! I had to skip through some parts……too tough for an older man with a fear of heights. You guys are 2 brave ones!
Thank you so much! I appreciate that!
You guys are so much braver than me. Hell no would I ever walk that death ledge.
That feeling of the big wall pushing you towards the exposure is always disconcerting. The loose rock raises the pucker factor. Nice job!!
I know it didn’t look worse than it is or else you guys wouldn’t have been putting much effort for another descent route!!
If you need to sway someone to go just tell them class 1 ledge!!😂
you guys are insane...!!! got me sweating all the video. Amazing footage and scenery dude.!
Thank you so very much! Thank you for watching!
Such an outstanding video! You guys are so brave. The scenery and the music were just incredible. I hope this video gets all the views it deserves.
Thank you so much! I really appreciate that! Thank you for enjoying my video!
Holy crap! I won't describe the physiological reaction I'm having right now...as this is a family video. Good on ya! I did a scary ledge like that on Longs Peak once, but it was not that narrow and not that long! Also, I wasn't operating a drone.
this legit raised my heart rate on that wedge. the loose rocks, ur recording it all, the rocks falling. then there other guy is like "pretty cool, like yall dint almost each come very close to dying for a view you basically already had! Dude lol.Great video tho glad ur here to share it lol
Way too scary but so very beautiful. Thanks for daring to go, I think. Got Angels Landing beat for sure.
Yeeeeaaaahhh. No. I have balance issues thanks to a head injury. I’m not afraid, just trembling and shaky. I couldn’t do this but I’d like to. Enjoyed watching you. 👍☮️🌞🏜️🩵
Sedona is such a beautiful area.
Awesome in that red sandstone area, and looks amazing all the parts that aren't sketchy!!! I'm going to pass on the death ledge myself.. but good on you guys!
I had to constantly remind myself to breathe while watching this video 😂
I admire you both. I love horror movies because of the rush. But nothing tops the rush I just received from your video 😊
Search and rescue would get quite a "rush" if they had to scrape them off the canyon floor.
Thank you so much for watching! I am so glad it could entertain you. Michael and I will work on some more scary videos lol
Nope! lol. kudos. once i feel the butterflies, thats a no go. Watching those rocks fall off the edge as youre walking was enough.
Happy New year!
Happy New Year! Thank you so much for watching!
Wow❤ beautiful and crazy ❤
Wow! I hike in the mountains of Arizona all the time, but I still felt waaaay uneasy during certain parts of this video! Also, having done my fair share of bushwacking, I particularly felt your pain when that ledge proved to be impassible and you had to climb back up. Great video, thanks for posting!
Thank you so much for watching! I'm glad you enjoyed the video! More to come!
I love the Sedona area! This makes me want to return to explore - but I would not go near that ledge... Thanks
Yikes! Kudos to you guys for your bravado! Remarkable footage--thank you for taking us on your journey. What would you do if you got half way and said, "No...I want to turn around"....??
Fantastic👍👍
Just follow Skeer and don’t think about it!! Nice work 🙌🏼
Amazing hike.
That ledge section, holy shit man! Nice video!
You are some crazy people. That was scary. I had to close my eyes both times.
I've hiked some slot canyons in Utah looking for rock art...had an experienced guide, but we never encountered anything like this. Much respect for your cool heads and steady footing.
I now live close to Sedona. The place is really cool to hike and bike. Even when it is busy, there are so many trails, you can find something that isn't crowded.
Especially if you go off trail lol I've never had a problem avoiding people. You just have to work for it a little bit.
Pretty Fricken Cool, I will admit I got a little puckered up in the
Beginning. Great camera work . . .
Wow! So many nopes in the first 10 seconds! Can't wait to see how many more there are!!
Edit: Halfway through and I've already cussed you twice, once to keep that drone away from Michael and the second time to put your damn camera away! Bunch of nopes so far.
Final edit: my hands are sweaty and the back of my knees are full of pressure. Oh! And I found the rest of the nopes in the second half of the video!
I appreciate very much you sharing this hike! I subscribed; but I'm not gonna be able to watch you before bed. I feel like I have to go run a mile to get rid of all the heebie jeebies. LOL
Thanks guys!
Lol so funny! Thank you for watching and the SUB! I love your comment as well!
I've done a fair bit of similarly sized ledges, but never with that much loose rock. I would be sweeping it all down before stepping on it, for sure!
Yeah. Not happening for me. Not in the past, not in the present and not in the future. That is an insanely high risk. If that was a maintained trail with a guard to hook in a rope, I'd consider it. Absolutely terrifying.
Don’t play with death… I have a terminal disease (Altzeimers disease) Don’t die before me. If you die from falling I will have no sympathy with you. You’re loved ones will be angry at you for wrecking their lives. Go and learn Buddhist meditation. You are more likely to bring peace to them and not lasting sorrow. Just thought I might save a life or two. I was a daredevil and showed off.I stopped stunting and I won’t die from daring.❤ ego ego ego… watch it like a hawk
I don’t smoke, but I felt myself reaching for a cigarette to calm my nerves! Be careful out there guys!! Enjoyed the video! 👍👏👏
OMG crazy trip, congratulations
Thank you! Thanks for watching!!
Insane! I am impressed.
Makes my legs weak just watching. Hats off to you guys I couldn’t do that lol
At 8:48 my thoughts exactly. That's not a ledge. Glad I'm not the only one in the comments thinking the same thing. Well done.
I'm glad I'm not the only one with "off foots"! I"ve never heard anyone else mention that. But I'm curious, your right handed no? Most people are. But you made it sound like having your right foot on the exposure side was the "off foot" way to traverse. I'm the exact opposite. I like having my right foot (my foot corresponding to my dominate hand) on the dangerous side. I find it harder going the other way.
The palms of my hands have never gotten that sweaty from just watching someone else climb a ledge. Damn!
Holy crap, Batman! My stomach was in my throat!! Awesome video though 👍
oh. my nerves!!!
it's one thing to have the COURAGE to make that climb and survive...but to film it with such skill
is beyond comprehension!! incredible job!!! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Thank you so very much! It is very difficult to film these adventures so your kind comments are much appreciated!
