I like how you noticed some of the parallels between Far Cry 2 and the S.T.A.L.K.E.R series. Guns have been passed down so many times that by the time you get them, they barely hold up after you fire two mags. Blood Diamonds are similar to artefacts, readily available and only in that area of operation. Also they replace the regular currency which is heavily inflated.
Great analysis, but I would argue that one cannot map zone currency 100% to outside world currency using zone prices, because the demand (supply as well) is just so different - food, weaponry and tools play such a different role in the zone, also considering the very limited supply of it
All I can think of lately is what Strelok's group motives were because a team like that can make all the money in the world on artefacts with their capabilities. Yet they chose to try and decipher a door at the cnpp. They even ignored the wish granter.. money wasn't on their list at all.
Just as US Dollar was backed up by gold, Zone Rouble is backed by artifacts. While they aren't as valuable as they were when the Zone started producing them, they are still important for the outside world and the exclusion zone is the only place to get them. Not many books touch on the subject and I don't think the games did as well, but in the Roadside Picnic the impact of artifacts was huge and massively boosted the technology and science. Thus while a single Zone Rouble may not be worth on its own, it's most likely tied to the country of origin of the Zone. At least in the currency decimal sense. If the Zone wasn't a constant warzone, I could see its value surpassing the Hryvnia, as the export of the artifacts would somewhat stabilise. Then again it's not uncommon to see rare minerals being worth pennies in their country of origin, when on the market their value is sometimes thousands times over, making only the merchants profit, while those who provide them risk their lives constantly.
The math was done wrong. To remove a 50% increase, you actually need to find what value + 50% gives us 25. If we assume the price was 12.5, an increase of 100% would be needed for the energy drink to be 25. The correct price for the energy drink is 16,66. In-game, the correct price is 33,33 This doesn't really matter for the video because their exchange ratio is still 0.5 because the products still have a price ratio of 0.5. However, we need to remember that this is a game and prices are virtually designed to balance the game's economy, and sometimes they won't reflect how valuable things really are in-lore. Also, we should keep in mind that the year the game is set in can change the economy, and this ends up making Mecheny's calculations wrong. In 2012, the year SoC takes place, the exchange ratio was $1 USD = ₴8.0359 on May 1st, which sets the Zone Rouble in 16,07 per dollar. One energy drink costs more or less $2,07 USD. This means that each Hryvnia costs about $0,12 USD // $12 US cents, 4x more than what Mecheny calculated, which puts the Zone Rouble in $0,06 USD // $6 US cents. €1 EUR = ₴10.6366, which means each Hryvnia was about € 0,09, each Zone Rouble around € 0,045. ₽1 RUB = ₴0.2734, which means each Hryvnia was about ₽ 3,65, each Zone Rouble around ₽ 1,82.
bro, when you said that the soviet ruble was super inflated and said 100 rubles was 1 dollar you made me sad, i live in argentina and the dollar its somewhere betwen 700-800 pesos. Also great content as always
1. Let's start with the fact that the name Ruble in the game does not mean that the game uses Rubles, in Ukraine after the collapse of the Soviet Union Hryvnia is still called Ruble simply because of the old habit of people who grew up in the USSR (my mother still calls Hryvnia Ruble). Developers called the currency ruble because they are used to calling it that (you have to take into account the year when the game was released). 2. Argument with the icon is strange, because each game has its own currency icon. The Soviet rouble doesn't make any sense at all. 3. The exchange rate also turned out to be very small. Most likely if the developers and planned it, it will be like 1 to 8 ration.
This was a cool concept, and apparently they will also be adding the non-stop energy drink to Stalker 2, along with a lot more product placement, which I think is gonna be awesome for immersion. Great video as always, I'm very much looking forward to your modded Stalker reviews!
The stalkers don't actually use Soviet rubles. They most likely use a combination of Ukranian Hryvnias and russian rubles. Unless the very notes are kind of artifacts they got from an old bill cache or something.
12:09 your conversion is so far off, it's incredible... 1 zone ruble equals 1 US cent, but 85€ cents? you think one US dollar is worth 85€?? the conversion between US$ and € is almost 1 to 1.
inside the zone, which is where you find them so there are always in high circulation. Outside the zone though. . . I would expect any artifact to be priced in the 5-6 digits, just by having one alone.
The zone rouble is worth as much as daddy Sidorovich want it to.
Me: "I have risked life and limb, my sanity and even my soul to acquire this incredibly rare treasure"
Sid: "best i can do is $20"

They are based on Red's group from the book. They know the "wish granter" is pure bullshit.
Certainly, stalker got some extreme inflation when a loaf of bread costs entire paychecks

Truly another awe inspiring and eye opening video by mecheny. I cant wait for the next one.

Mal xd
Even the zone has an economy stronger than Venezuela's.
A bit unrelated, but I just wanna say that Gurza dreaming is a masterpiece of a song
Non-stop energy drings are (or were) avaliable in poland through internet. One can iz 3.40zł and thats about 0.90$
1 zone rouble = 0.01 USD
1 zone rouble = 0.85€
... and yet 1€ = 1.07 USD. wtf?
Also are the prices for guns and stuff realistic by this measure?
man probably meant 0.85 euro cents but completely forgot

In Anomaly it might be Zimbabwe money hahahaha

It costs enough to make me live under a bunch of shit stained rubble in the Zone.

The zone rouble is in a state of hyperinflation or hyperdeflation depending on if the person using it is a trader or not.
hallelujah, for our beloved basement stalker schizo has uploaded again

You didn't adjust for inflation :v
i love you mecheny

what the hell, one us cent does NOT equal 85 euro cents, where are you getting this math from?
3:46
Heh. Hehe. He.
By that analysis is better to farmed radioactive potatoes, and sell it to some rookies.

nah it isnt
yeah lets just hope the traders dont inflate the prices by unreasonable amounts just because they can.
Keep those videos coming
Are you seriously telling me that a Jellyfish is only 40$

Wait, if 1 zone ruble is like 85c (€) and if the guns in the Zone are old and abundant, why does the average AK still cost 2000ru then?
