As a children, my family would travel to Ghent each summer to visit my grandmother, aunts and Kentucky cousins. It was an idyllic life then of running around this lovely town, going to VBS at the Baptist Church and sipping lemonade on the front porch swing. When the old grapevine was mentioned, I knew immediately where it was. This was a nice remembrance of days gone by.
Never knew that it was pronounced like 'jent' - always thought it was with a hard 'g' like in good. As a kid we would drive through Ghent on the way to Butler State Park from Kenton County.
My grandmother. Hattie Evans Chandler, was born in 1898, in Ghent. Her mother was Ollie Sanders. I would like to visit this town and learn more about my family history, as it has been very difficult find information about African-americans in this small community
My family owned a farm and lived 6 miles out of Ghent & 3 miles from Sanders in Carson,KY my entire life. My sister & I went to school in Ghent from 1st thru 6th grades,Best teachers I ever had. I still have family in Ghent area. All the McIntyre family is at rest in the Ghent cemetery which is where myself & my husband will be as well. Sharon McIntyre Perkins
I was in Ghent once. Worst town in Kentucky, in my opinion. I never saw more drunks in one town in my life. The mayor was drunk. I ain't been back. Burned out buildings, the lot, it was awful.
when i was younger that was our grape vine in our front yard
How cool is that!

I realize I’m reading your comment a year later. I’m hoping that throughout that time, you were able to find the information you were looking for.❤️
