I'm surprised that there aren't more international tourist flights to Christchurch over the summer months. The South Island is the main tourist destination with the North Island being the add on. TBH, only Rotorua, Mt Manganui, Lake Taupo and the Tongariro National Park are worth a visit, all easily accessible with a flight from Queenstown to Rotorua. The main attractions are all on the South Island: Tekapo & Mt Cook, Queenstown, Milford Sound, West Coast Glaciers. Auckland and Christchurch as cities are ok for a couple of days, but no other NZ city or town is worth a visit. Wellington especially should be avoided at all costs. It's a dump. As John McEnroe's would probably say if her ever visited Wellington, 'It's the pits man!'.
