Good game. My observation is that Percy Tau should be playing in the middle of the field instead of being limited to the wing. He is clearly the most dynamic player on the team and all of the danger seemed to be coming from his side. I personally believe that the most dangerous and creative player should be put in the middle of the field. I love African football because of the speed. I also love that South Africa is a true African team and its standard reflects the true quality of local South African football. I say this in light of how West and North Africa are distorting football. For example, the Morocco that went to the semifinals of the World Cup was comprised of Moroccans bought in Europe, trained in Europe and playing on top European teams. The Morocco team reflected the standard of European football, not that of Morocco. It is wrong to say, as the result of that performance, that the standard of football in Morocco has become that high. But this is true of all the teams in West Africa.
All of a sudden formerly insignificant and inconsequential teams, like Gambia, Guinea, Sierra Leone etc, are giving teams like Zambia, which were dominant African teams in the previous decades not only run for their money, but even occasional beatings. The reason is that all those African refugees who braved the Sahara, crossed the Mediterranean, and acquired asylum in Europe, have given birth to offspring in Europe who are rewarding the countries of their parents by returning to play in the national teams. This why when you see the Africa Cup line up, it is dominated by teams from West Africa. Their poverty is now paying off for them. Even this Congolese team here does not reflect what Congo could be were it to harvest the many Congolese players who are in Belgium, Switzerland, France, and feature them on its national team. This is why I support the two teams here because they feature actual players from the countries themselves.
That being said, I am disappointed by you guys from South Africa. This is your national team. Football is our sport as black Africans. How can the stadium be so empty in game featuring your own national team. I know you will say that this was just a friendly, or that you are tired of your national team disappointing you. I assure you that this would never happen in Zambia or DRC, but especially if Zambia and DRC were playing each other. You have to remember that 75-80% of us Zambians are of Congolese heritage. Even the Lozi, who now speak a form of siSotho, called siLozi, are mainly of Congolese heritage. The games between Congo and Zambia is a highly charged game for us Zambians. Also, it is likely that as much as 20-25% of the Zambian population is made up of Congolese Nationals, and so on that day, the stadium is packed early, and only during game time do you find out that your neighbour of 25 years is actually from Likasi in Katanga Province of DRC... Another highly charged game for us is Malawi because there are also a lot of Malawians in Zambia... I hear South Africa has become a big game, but I live overseas, so I have not seen this for myself...
Either way, good game from Bafana Bafana and DRC

It's not just the environment that makes up the players but the genes. Players from west Africa are better athletes and that is a fact. Or would you downplay the success of West African teams in the cadet championships as due to importation of foreign based and trained mercenaries too? More than half the players in the Nigerian senior team represented the country at various youth cadres and I can tell you that our performance has got worse with players of half descent. What the likes of the Gambia and Guinea are benefitting from now is increased quota in tournaments and growing investment and coverage in grassroot soccer which is not an unexpected byproduct of development. You either ignorantly or strategically failed to point out countries like Comoros and Madagascar which routinely should be whipping boys for West and North African powerhouses but for the earlier outlined advancements, have been pulling their weight more recently. If there is any advantage playing in the top European leagues has bestowed, it is improved tactical knowledge, and talent with hardwork gets you to that position in the first place. Also, due to increased scouting presence, potential players are now being exported at more tender age. In your argument you didnt factor in what would have been if some of those players of African blood chose to feature otherwise, like Mbappe and other notable mentions. If the world cup did not reflect the standard of football in Morocco, it did reflect the pure footballing talent and ingenuity of Moroccans, especially considering they were coached by a native. Even the North African teams have historically had better international records than southern African teams. Dominating the African club competitions also gives credence to their local leagues. Your reference to poverty and migration without reckoning the geopolitical shenanigans in the subsahara is also half baked. It is the absence of these factors that South Africa is able to attract foreign investors to their league, if not the gap would be more than what it already is.

@@ogbuliechukwuka8036West Africans are better athletes????? Let me see, the silver medalist in the 100m at the World Championships was from Botswana. The 400m world record holder is from South Africa. The 400m commonwealth champion is from Zambia. The top sprinters in Africa from Kenya (Omanyala), Botswana (Letsile Tebogo), South Africa (Akani Simbine). The best middle distance runners are from Sothern Africa- ie, Caster Semenya and Nijel Moses. The best middle and long distance runners are from East Africa, though every now and then, someone from Southern Africa might pop in.
Do not give me Marie Talou because she never wins. Do not give me Tobi Amusan, because she was almost banned for 4 years when she violated the rules and dodged her scheduled drug testing. There after she place number 6 at the just ended World Champion, most likely because the spotlight was on her.
West Africa is always missing in athletic events. You never not do well at any distance. Do not give Ohorugu or any Nigerian running for the US, the UK or Canada. Those simply reflect the advantages of living and being trained in the US, like Athing Mu.
Show me someone like Faith Kipyegon, who trains on a dust track in her hometown in Western Kenyan, and can break 3 world record in 3 different distances in a month, as she did this year, and then make history by winning 2 gold medals, in a combination that has never been done before.
Show me what athletic event West Africa dominates, that does not involve calling West Africans who were born in the US or the UK, grew up and were trained in West Africa, and are West African by their parents names only.
      Prove me wrong. Show me
Frank Fredericks was from Namibia. Meanwhile, Blessing Okagbare has been banned from athletics for 10 years....

@@ogbuliechukwuka8036 Both the South African women and the Zambian women beat the Nigerian women in the last ended WAFCON. Zambia beat Togo, Senegal and Nigeria in its run to the semifinals... If West Africans win because of their superior athleticism, why did Nigeria lose to South Africa and Zambia in consecutive matches?

In the qualification format for the last women nations cup, we saw how CAF hampered the chances of more established West African nations like Ghana and Ivorycoast with the draw fixtures, making them cancel out one another. Also, the Nigerian team overestimated the margin, in footballing ability currently, between them and the rest of Africa, just don't go about hoping for a repeat of the upsets in the next AWCON. Nonetheless, the best performing African team at the last world cup was still Nigeria and as the English pointed out after that fortunate shootout, we were the most athletic team they faced.

@@ogbuliechukwuka8036 How are they more established? What have done? Zambia beat Cameroun to qualify for the for the Olympics. In the WAFCON, Zambia beat Senegal, Togo and Nigeria. There is no truth to the claim that West African women are more established in the WAFCON, unlike the West African men, they do not have the benefit of Europeans teams training them. This is why of the two teams that went to the World Cup, half of them were from Southern Africa, in Zambia and South Africa. Nigeria might not even have made it, as it had to survive Ghana. The women's cup, which is not tainted by advantages West Africa gets from training all these West African players is a fairer reflection of the relative standards in African football. Yes, Nigeria is, as usual, full of American trained players, but Nigeria was lucky to survive Botswana. They would have been lucky to survive Uganda. As it was, Southern and East Africa were represented by Zambia, Burundi, Botswana, Tanzania and South Africa. Half of the teams in the semi-final were from Southern Africa, and had they played anyone else but each other, they would have met in the final. As it was South Africa defeated Zambia and went on to lift the Cup.
