Remeber viewers, 1 or 2 bad crop season could have moved the farmer into permanent debt trap wherein he ends up paying interest in loans without earning much profits. Though credit can be good for business, it only makes sense to have debt that you can afford to have. There can be external conditions out of your control which can push you into this debt trap. credit card wala credit is still different bhai. credit when used to grow business is good for the person and the economy but today people use credit to buy depreciating things creating a burden on themselves to pay it off. economy still benefits but the person suffers

Similar to the Merchant's guild, modern times have a Shipping companies Guild which provide loans and insurance to shipping companies. There's one in Europe and India plans to open one. Not too sure if this is the guild in modern times but I read about it sometime back.
