When I lived in Los Angeles I had frequent chest pains so became a regular at ER's, since living in the Philippines, no more chest pains! Safe to say, the Philippines saved me too.

I believe this to be your best video yet. I've been to the Philippines several times with my wife of 28 years to visit her beautiful family. As a borne-bred, hardcore New Yorker, I felt everything you said. The rat race, the stress, and all the drama. It's not worth it anymore. This year I say goodbye to Corporate America, and retire to the Philippines with my wife. We are also building a home just like you and we are so excited about it. Nice Job! 💪

As a New Yorker and now living in North Carolina, I agree with all you said. I visited the Philippines 4 years ago and what stood out the most for me were the friendly and happy Pilipino people.

What a sincere and honest post. I wish all American expats think the way you do but unfortunately there are lots of them who go there and still have the mindset of the kind of Americans that think they're the best in the world. SeeAs a Filipino who moved to the US 20 years ago to find "greener pastures" I totally agree with you. I never felt totally welcomed here and I never felt that I was home. Don't get me wrong, I made more than I probably could have if I stayed financially speaking, but as they say, money can never make you happy. I've been divorced, cheated on, taken advantage of and come home to an empty house. Sometimes I tell myself I should have listened to my Grandma. She told me that the grass isn't always greener on the other side and that you won't miss what you never had. But in 3 years I'm finally coming back home to the place of my childhood. Where all my memories are filled with happy ones riding a buffalo with my friends and going to the beach and hiking trails in the beautiful mountains in my home province. Best of luck to you my friend. I hope someday we will be able to meet and share some great happy memories, Philippine style

The reason older Americans and Europeans get frustrated is because the Filipino people live by a code of always being one to two hours late for everything under the sun. Filipinos unlike Americans have a non hurry or non on time mentality. In the Philippines everyone is late for work, school and or to appointments. In A America this kind of always being late is unacceptable and will get you fired, expelled from school or college and can get you into serious trouble with local or federal government offices for appointments. No offence but also the Technology in the Philippines is ranked at about the 1930 level especially in Hospital medicine and practice. I resently spent a long time in the Ozamis Hospital and had fourteen nurses miss performing a basic I.V. insertion because the kept missing my veins. Something that is not acceptable in the US and will get a nurse fired on the spot. It's a hell of an adjustment for me to be here because I was a large CEO for a grocery store chain. It's like going from constant action to a complete stop here. Lol

I sure is hell ain't planning on leaving and honestly I have three beach resorts and I own two houses have a full bakery, a restaurant, a Pizza Parlor coming across the street from the Christ The King College and I have plans to begin a Isuzu Japan partnership to put used trucks back into one peice after been cut up in containers for resales here in Mindanao. And that is the thing, you can't change people without showing them first hand how things should be done or at the least teach them how it can be done better. My house cost me six million pesos. And it's a palace, so why would I leave it?

I absolutely love this. I am a Filipino American living in California and have traveled back to the Philippines many times on vacations and every time I returned I didn’t want to go back to the States. I’m in the process of becoming a dual citizen and plan on retiring in the Philippines in 4 years. My wife and I have built a home there. I work for the State of California and will have a generous pension when I retire. Right now I am doing what you mentioned. Working long hours for months on end to take a 2 or 3 week vacation and then back to grind longing to be in that happy place again. Living here in California for the last 45 years, I have experienced it all and can say I do not like the direction that this State and the country are going. I want to reconnect back with my heritage and enjoy that simple and idyllic life you are living. I am going to make a hard push these last 4 years and hope to be in your position once those 4 years are up. I am already planning well ahead of this. Thank you inspiring me to pursue this and best of luck to you there. I envy you but I’m so happy for you. I can tell it is a very emotional topic and I felt the emotions as well as this hits so close to home for me. Congrats on your new life and continued happiness and health to you.

I'm a fil/am that moved back to the Philippines 10 years ago. I guess there are a lot of us. I left the usa in my early 40s. I am happy I did the move. Good luck to you and your wife.

I’m from Toronto, Canada. Prior to the craziness of the past two years I traveled all over the Philippines for a month at a time as often as I could afford. If I could generate an income there and not deal with city traffic and the go go go mentality of North America, I’d be there in a heart beat. Every time I was there, I felt that this is how life should be. Kudos that you have been able to achieve that!

Some foreigners I know live while work here. They find a job in Upwork or other websites, these sites are good because they pay you a rate that's based in your country. Then they move here in the PI bringing that job. Internet here in PI has gotten better depending on the place. When I started working online in 2011, my speed at home was a horrible 3 mbps. I'm still working at home and I get more 45 to 65 mbps..I can also upgrade that to a hundred,but I don't wanna pay more.

pls do it, it's possible. i came back home to the Phils after 25 years living in Chicago. Never looked back since. But before I did that, I also had a plan. Saved money then sold house and car in Chicago before coming home. Bought a small condo in Manila. I am definitely happier now.

@@lifeonamarble961 Condo living in Manila is usually in a high rise. It's a matter of luck having quiet neighbors or noisy ones. I'm lucky because I have quiet neighbors. Our condo association also allows "noisy work" done only during certain hours of the day such as 10am-12nn and 3-5pm M-Sa only (no work should be done on Sun). So yeah it all depends on your condo rules.

I couldn’t have said it better, we have been here since November and it has been great, we retired at 55/57 and living off my military and disability pensions. Life is good.

Right on man! I spent 25 days there in March 2022. I loved it. I got married, had a great time. Very relaxing and stress free. I have been there before and was married to a Filipina for 11 years. She died of cancer in 2003. My new wife and I will retire there in 11 more years when I hit 62. Keep on enjoying life!

@@methemonkeyking Thanks brother. I do. We have 2 kids together. My new wife Vhie and I visited my first wives family in San Carlos City while we were there. They were very nice to both of us. Filipino people are very accepting and caring.
@@joet.7831 : that must've been very emotional. I'm Filipino born in the states and met my wife in the Philippines 36 years ago. Her parents were so nice accepting me to their family. It was so easy 36 years ago to bring my wife to the states, she received her visa from the US Embassy in one week after our interview.
I'm hoping to retire to the Philippines in the very near future, I long to wake up without being ruled by a clock and work. I love it over there and the attitude of the people makes me even happier and I agree about how helpful they are over there. It's a beautiful place with so many Islands to visit with so much to do. @@michaelmcknight2305 the alarm clock wont wake you up..but the roosters will. Most Americans are pissed with the roosters that they forget it is a hard core part of Phil culture. People here wake up early and their roosters are their natural alarm clock, except if you live in a gated city subdivisuon.

Cory I agree 100%! I spent about 6 months in Mindanao back in 2015. At that time I knew I wanted to retire there “one day” for all the reasons you mentioned. It wasn’t until we recently had kids that I started looking at the US through the eyes of a parent concerned for our kids. The Ph culture hands down, no question is better for our kids than the US and we are currently structuring our life so that we can soon retire early there to the Ph. Thank you for this video, Sir. My husband and I used to live in Chicago for 20 yrs. My husband's BP was through the roof then. We worked to pay the bills. We finally moved back to the Phils in 2013, and we live by the beach. Never looked back. We can still eat whatever we want. My husband's BP is normal now. Another reason why I'm happy to see this video is because my American bro-in-law doesn't have the same perpective of the Phil way of life. He looks down on Filipinos, mentions all the time about the Phils being a third world country, and of the USA being the best country. But, lo and behold, he's still here in Neg. Or. fighting for Immigration to let him stay here longer.

I've been feeling like this for 2yrs now, I'm just sick of the lifestyle in the US and the struggle with high taxes and everything he mentioned here. I too am trying to move to one of these beautiful places permanently. Working on going home to Puerto Rico for good or maybe one of these other far away paradises.
@@manuelsantana6904 Philippines is the best.. But the future looks a little sketchy.. the election will answer many ?? Columbia is talked very highly about.. Many go there-even from Philippines and do not return. Thailand too-and easy to jump to the Philippines future. I went to Istanbul... Very nice too of course totally different- but very cheap and a lot to see.. but be prepared to put on the weight for the food is amazing!

My wife is from Surigao in Mindanao. We live in North Carolina now (I'm from Boston originally), but planning our big move to the Philippines in the next 4 years. Just bought an oceanfront lot in the Aklan region of Panay island within view of Boracay. We're looking forward to building our home soon. I've been to the Philippines many times. The people are wonderful and love the province life. My wife says when I'm there, I'm very much a different person... more relaxed, I smile more. Stress is a killer... we work hard to buy more stuff - I think George Carlin said it best: "That's the whole meaning of life... trying to find a place for your stuff... You go out and get a bigger house just to hold more of your stuff." We become slaves to stuff at the expense of our own peace of mind, our health, our family. It so good to know you have chosen PH as your ‘retirement’ eventhough you are still young. For happier stay, you have to immerse yourself in rhe community, help some people and gain more friends. Filipinos love you back when you show genuine concern. They will protect you and wont leave you.
Dude just found your channel and binge watched all your videos until 4am last night. You are living the dream and your house is amazing! Your journey is really inspiring as someone who has been burned out in the tech industry for a number of years now but feels like a slave to the high income and all the pressures that come with it. I feel extremely fortunate but at the same time I don't remember what happiness is like. All the material things around me, while exciting at first, now feel like weight that slows me down and keeps me situated. I don't have debt and have perfect credit but being someone that was 40k in the hole less than 10 years ago with bare money for food -- I never want to experience that ever again. I feel like I can't say no to 200k+ a year but at the same time my love for what I do has been slowly ate away to where it no longer feels like a passion. Sure would be nice to build a home in paradise and feel like you have a place in the world.
Looks like you're in a cool , chill and relaxed environment. I'm jealous. Can't wait to visit the Philippines next year. Enjoy life in the Philippines. Stay safe.

Rural life in the Philippines is a paradise.
Slow but it feels fulfilling.
You do not need much to go by if you are not after material things.
If I earn just $10 a day, I would probably live still eating 3x a day, with slow internet but happy.

That was a great talk. My first trip was in 2005 and it was a game changer for me. I am looking forward to retiring later this year and will spend the larger part of my time in the Philippines.
I'll be arriving in the Philippines May 9th and can hardly wait. The negative things about your country are not the fault of the average Filipinos. They are the fault of the politicians who make stupid laws that keep the people in poverty.
One example is the job requirements that the hired person needs to pay for but they have no money to pay for and the employer is not allowed to pay it so the person can't start working until they save up enough money to pay for the job requirements but they need a job to get the money to pay for the job requirements.
When Filipinos told me about this I thought it's absolutely insane and it's going to keep many poor Filipinos trapped in poverty.

Strongly considering moving to Philippines with my girlfriend.. it will be a huge change and there’s lots of steps along with planning and money. So far TH-cam has been a big help in pointing me in the right direction.
I’ll soon be selling all my stuff and packing my bags after watching this video. I’ll be with the love of my life, away from America’s problems and hopefully find a permanent peace of mind there in the Philippines.

It’s a beautiful country with amazing people everywhere you go. Cities can be hectic of course but there’s 7000 islands with endless places to visit.

My husband loves Philippine so much especially Bohol,,, We go vacation once a year for a month. We will be going there on September and we can’t wait.. We would love to retire there .. Hi Cory, it's my first time to watch your you tube chanel , you just said what I needed to hear. I am a Filipino Canadian. Have been contemplating on returning back to the Philippines so my girls would be abe to experience the life that they truly deserve. As a working mother I sometimes wonder when I would make the final decision to move back since I do feel it's the best life experience I could give my kids. Have built a small resthouse by the beach which I'm sure they will love. I can't wait to live a simple yet happy life back there. Be able to do animal and vegetable farming for consumption the rest maybe for profit , be able to see the sunrise and sunset which I don't get to notice here anymore because of too much things to think about. When I saw this video it made me realize what my kids are missing. That someone from America was able to appreciate my homecountry and why do I have to doubt my instinct that life is not about living in a western world which is mostly the goal and pride of some but it's about how you were able to make simple yet lasting good memories. Something my kids could take with them whichever path they choose to take one day.

Dude that's awesome! I first went to the Philippines in 2013 and I had the same feeling...filipino's are super friendly...I felt like I could do anything there and the only time I was stressed out a little was when I was at the Mega Mall in Manila (too many people). If I were going to live there I'd be out in the province as well away from a major city.
I am from the city and Megamall is just one bus ride from my home. However, I find this huge mall dizzying 😆. There are so many shops and people inside.
You were right. I felt this everytime i was in the states We busy working on fast paced scenarios.. In the Philippines people were extremely nice and goes out their way to help you and not feeling left out . People were really really chill and when we go back to America I was the freak happen? In America you was so different

My country isn’t perfect, it has pros and cons, however, it is the laidback life, simplicity, the hospitable people and cheaper cost of living comparing to western countries. I am an overseas Filipino worker and wish to go home for good.

Man, I've got to say, as a man, your work history "challenges" resonated HARD with mine. That last 10 years of my job, I watched it morph from a difficult, but rewarding career to a straight up soul-sucking siege that was grinding away at my psychological and physical health. Luckily, the life-plan I put in place when attending college helped me get through it and stay on course. I'm happy to say I retired two years ago and am living a level of personal freedom that's so empowering and enjoyable, that I really can't articulate it to others...it has to be lived to be understood. That being said, I'm happy for you and, in some fashion, believe I know first-hand what you've sacrificed to be where you are and have achieved what you achieved. Although my life is good, I can't help hoping I could meet a woman as sweet as yours someday and make her my own.

_To speak in general about Filipinas, we are naturally sweet, sensitive, caring, thoughtful, respectful, (very) family-oriented. Most country girls are typically conservative but we can be fun-crazy and playful, too. but of course, we are not alien to mood swings, temper and the likes. i would have to believe though, Filipina or not, women simply reciprocate what men show them. I lived in the Philippines for about 3 months at BGC.
After about a month, I missed America primarily because of the conveniences and not so perfect order.
However, I am a long-term type of person and I really feel the Philippines is heading in the right direction economically.
It's almost like during the commonwealth era when the international community started migrating to the islands as it was developing.
Here's my prediction (not a financial advise nor fortune teller here) just my own opinion for me:
The Philippines will be the center of commerce in Asia within 50 years.
Hopefully I'm still alive if that happens. Wanna see the ph doing better.
No man.. Singapore and Thailand are away from the Pacific ring.. That's big lead for both over the Phils.
As a Filipino, this gives me hope.
As a foreigner I live in BGC over 6 years. I think this place is a cost-effective place in whole Asia . Atmosphere like Singapore, and u can get cheaper resources from other place in Manila. Easy to travel anywhere. Good English environment, the whole year weather is comfortable. Good environment for international school . You can find any kind of countries food here. Sell 1 condo in my hometown can buy more than 3 condos in BGC, live one and others rental fees can enough for me to enjoy a retire life.

Hi, I’m a new sub. I’m enjoying your “Move to the Philippines”journey. I’m glad you found peace and happiness, listening to your story reminded me of the movie, “Rescue from Gilligan’s Island” where everyone finally gets rescued and after living in the city for a short period of time, they become miserable and eventually get stranded again on the same island and they’re all happier than a…… you know what😃
I loved hearing your perspective on this. I've also been in the Philippines for 1 month, and my feeling is a bit different. But I've been staying in the city (Cebu City). I've met some great people, but many of them also warn me to be careful of pickpockets in certain areas, they tell me "Don't walk in that neighborhood alone," etc. There are also many beggars here: If I sit at an outdoor table at a cafe, kids will come up and ask for money. Also, I eat a specific diet that is incompatible with almost all Filipino restaurants or street food stalls, so I mostly just eat my own groceries in my room (and to buy those groceries often takes 20+ minutes of standing in line for the checkout in the store). The one gym I found with good equipment near me is crowded all day and doesn't run the A/C high enough. The biggest inconvenience for me is maybe the lack of reliable internet. Usually if I have a 30-minute video call, the connection cuts out for at least a couple minutes during the call.
I realize some of those complaints may sound petty or spoiled or whatever, but I'm just being honest that I've found quite a few inconveniences here. Compare that to Thailand, where almost none of those things were issues. They speak less English in Thailand, but otherwise I found it superior in pretty much every way that matters to me. But yeah, it sounds like you really craved that slower pace of life in the province, and you got it. So that's awesome, man, I'm really happy for you. I love the positivity in this video. Now I'm wondering if I'd like the province more or less than Cebu City. I'm guessing some aspects would be better for me, some worse. But overall, I like city energy, I'm not craving that slow life like you (yet!). So, different strokes for different folks!
Try a smaller city first. I do like where your staying for a city but I enjoy the country life more
