The original Hebrew words were "she turned back" which has been erroneously translated as "she looked back," but Lot's wife did not just look back, she decided to go back to the city and therefore was destroyed with it. I had a friend that turned back from following the Lord and started to embrace lies. I tried to bring her back to the truth but to no avail. There was a witch sent by Satan at my friend's side that kept her from returning to Jesus. So my friend died of a stroke. I heard her voice the day before she was buried. I was asking God to send a dream of my friend bc I hadn't dreamt of her since she had passed. As I lay down to sleep my friend called my name from somewhere deep inside me. I've often worried about this issue with Lot's wife. I mean I know by nature we can be a little morbid and so I've often wondered had I been there, would I have wanted to witness the destruction? I fear the temptation just to look and see God's fire would be too powerful. I wouldn't be looking out of love for the sin, but more out of morbid curiosity. Would I be destroyed for this?

Anyone with a heart would want to look back in horror. Realistically this would have been as horrific as Pompeii. People were hit with the lava and turned to pillars of stone like ash there too. I think God was warning that they couldn’t stop to look they needed to just run to safety and those who were able go into survivor mode managed to look back. She wasn’t strong enough to turn off her emotions and she looked back and went into shock or was overtaken by emotion at the suffering. Unfortunately, she was hit with the lava and she died. Honestly, Lot was not a good man. He offered to send his daughters out to be raped by the men at his door. I also don’t buy that he didn’t know what he was doing when he had sex with his daughters. If he was that drunk he wouldn’t have been able to perform sexually. There was a witch sent by Satan at my friend's side that kept her from returning to Jesus. So my friend died of a stroke. I heard her voice the day before she was buried. I was asking God to send a dream of my friend bc I hadn't dreamt of her since she had passed. As I lay down to sleep my friend called my name from somewhere deep inside me. In Genesis 3, God told Adam and Eve they would die but it was Satan who said they would not. Also, in Jude we see that eternal burning means a long time but with an end as the ruins of Sodom and Gomorrah are with us to this day. I've often worried about this issue with Lot's wife. I mean I know by nature we can be a little morbid and so I've often wondered had I been there, would I have wanted to witness the destruction? I think God was warning that they couldn’t stop to look they needed to just run to safety and those who were able go into survivor mode managed to look back. "Cinyras (= sorrow = Lot) king of Babylonia, (winter) it is said, had criminal intercourse with his daughter, Myrrha, while in a state of intoxication; the consequence of which was the birth of Adonis (the winter sun)."- Faber, Pag. Idol, vol. 2, p. 259. This myth is fully related in Ovid's Metamorphosis, Book 10. It is also noticed by other authors, but the parallel is carefully kept out of sight.
