    Are you able to flip the cam 180 or is it possible to do it in 90 steps?

    i don't like HD cameras for FPV (especially the runcam 2) because they can crash or suddently turn off and stuff...
    There is just alot less to go wrong with a simple analog camera...

    use a clock or timer, it is far more precise

    • @iforce2d
      @iforce2d  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Disagree. For one thing, it's only as precise as the framerate of both the screen displaying the timer, and the camera recording it. Secondly, precision is not necessarily important anyway, because saying something like "the latency is 45 milliseconds" is not very meaningful to most people. Watching the switching of that black and white display gives most people a better feeling for how the latency feels.

    I have a wizard and the camera sucks i bought a wide angle lense for it ( th-cam.com/video/RyacJlxxFHsb/w-d-xo.htmlut) the quality is bad. I have goggles two. you mention the swift and eagle are good or better then why should i buy the 3 as twice or three times as much? What camera would you say is best for my wizard I am a newbie and keep crashing i have not even used the goggles for flight as the picture sucks and with bad flying this will not help. LOL. I Thanks for useful videos I have seen from you!

      Well I can't really say what you should do, but I can tell you what I do and why, after having a bunch of these to try.
      I use the Swift 2 as my FPV camera, because it has a handy on-screen voltage display built in, lowest latency possible, and the picture is very good. I don't use the eagle because although it has a nicer picture, it has more latency, I often found myself plowing into the ground when I thought I was gonna swoop down low and just skim along. The eagle is great for non-acro quads or planes though, or just any situation where you will not be going too close to things. I don't use the Runcam2 because it rebooted on me in the middle of a flight and caused a crash (I am suspicious of the Runcam3 in this respect too). I also like to take the HD camera off the quad quite often and use it for different filming, so it's more convenient to have a dedicated FPV camera in my quad permanently.
      For HD camera I have been using the GoPro, but I will be using the Runcam3 most often now because I like the WDR picture. The Runcam2 is awkward to mount. XiaomiYi is not so awkward, but is still kinda big and gets damaged easily.

  • @shanebekker

    I am sure you know but needs to be said again that you stand a chance of getting 'fake' SD cards that report say 16gb when they are only 8/4gb and also pre-infected cards when buying from Ebay and the likes. Just be careful all. Maybe check them when you get them using a Linux OS to make sure all is ok and even reformat just in case.
    Oh and the footage from this Runcam 3 looks way better.

    • @iforce2d
      @iforce2d  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      The manual mentions nothing about formatting, or whether this camera is even capable of doing that. I can't remember any camera that I have ever needed to specially format a card for before (presuming all were already FAT16/FAT32 of course). Even with the card in question, it obviously did SEE IT because as I mentioned, it was able to create folders on the disk, it just didn't write any files. I did the re-partition using my desktop computer, and I made the same partition as was there already, just deleted and re-created. I had a problem with my handicam that was fixed by using a brand-name card, so FAKE or 'real' does seem to matter sometimes.
      At the very least, if the camera is not recording a file properly, it should not display the LED status that shows it is recording...

    I noticed your 16G SD card is rated "1" which means the lowest video recording performance. May be the 32G SD card has problems because of the mix "1" + big capacity. Simple hypothesis...

  • @micheldidier1062
    @micheldidier1062 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    I was wondering about this for the last few days.. so thanks so much for resolving this for me. It seemed kinda daft to be putting two very similar cams on the same quad, when one of them is as high quality as this RC3. You see what the cam(quad) sees like this... so for me this will be the way to go in the future. Thanks :)

  • @slothFPV
    @slothFPV 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    Useful note: the fpv wiring is identical to the runcam 2 wire, meaning if you have fpv set up for a runcam 2 its easy to swap them out, though its not recommended to power the 3 externally

    I am hungry for an actual video side to side the rc3 record and an fpv dvr record, but there are almost nothing (most of the time there is only action cam record, and no fpv records). I know, at the end of your video, there is a little one, but it isnt under flying. Altough, did you fixed your vtx/receiver problem? I am tryin to fix the fpv system on my quad, it is still uses the original old "not too good" parts (it is originally an Emax Nightawk 280 Pro, what i rebuild half).

    I have had the same problem with a virgin microSD card, 32 Gig, where it would not record but would create the directories. It said "SD card full, delete files" or some such in the App. After formatting the virgin card, it worked properly. I have not tried another virgin microSD card to see it this is SOP.

    I don't think it was your purpose but I really would have liked to see how the RC3 is connected to use as an FPV cam. I'd like to attach a set up like that to my Bayang X16 GPS quad.

    • @iforce2d
      @iforce2d  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not much to it really, the yellow wire on the USB connector is the video signal, connect that (and a common ground) to the video input signal on your video transmitter.

    one way that you can (relatively) easily measure the latency is by aiming the camera at a stopwatch with millisecond display, along with another video camera that can see both the FPV screen and actual stopwatch. of course you're still limited by the frame rate of the stopwatch display and recording camera, but it still allows you to get an actual number that would be otherwise difficult to come to.
    an example here when I was using the raspberry pi camera:
    th-cam.com/video/wpPiKZ6_IDg/w-d-xo.html

    • @iforce2d
      @iforce2d  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, but an actual number doesn't give the viewer a good idea of what the delay feels like. Saying for example "35 milliseconds" doesn't mean a lot to most people.

    • @va7bleh
      @va7bleh 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      definitely! i think both have their uses :)
      as an example, if a new digital FPV system comes out and claims "X milliseconds of latency", its good to know what that objectively means compared to existing ones.
      then again there are other factors at play i'm sure like LCD screen quality etc...
      anyway, really enjoy all your videos! keep up the great work.

    Hello, could somebody help me out? I am using this camera along with the eachine ts832 and a USV 5.8G receiver. I connect the receiver to my laptop since I have nothing else and use the program VLC. However I am gettting an outrageous 6 seconds of latency... Could somebody point out what I am doing wrong?
    To connect the runcam to the ts832 I just joined the two black cables with the two yellow cables. Thank you so much in advance!

    • @iforce2d
      @iforce2d  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Encoding an analog signal into digital takes time. A digital stream can also be buffered in memory if the data rate is too fast, which is probably what's happening. Just use all analog gear, stay away from AD or DA conversions.

    • @alonsitovillalon
      @alonsitovillalon 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you so much for the reply!!... but I'm new to this and I don't understand half of the things you said. What is DA AD? Where can I get this gear? What would I have to ask for? Thanks again :)

    • @alonsitovillalon
      @alonsitovillalon 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      PS; I was trying it last night and after 20 mins I realised if I wat for a bit and re open the VLC program a couple of times, it does work with decent latency, I think the problem is in the receiver, as when I press the frequency button, it takes the same time to respond.

    How far is the range for the camera to monitor

    • @iforce2d
      @iforce2d  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      You mean the radio transmission range? That would depend on the power of the transmitter, the quality of the antennas, the presence of obstructions etc. many factors. I think a couple hundred meters over clear line of sight is reasonable to expect.

    • @MiilkFN
      @MiilkFN 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      iforce2d what if you only use wifi no cords

    • @iforce2d
      @iforce2d  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Since when does 'radio transmission' use cords?? :D
      If you're talking about the wifi preview inside the camera, you can't use that for flying with at all, no way. It updates far too slowly and the range is only a few meters.
