You can check out some of my videos from the beginner series. It is very F2P friendly in my opinion. There are a lot of things that prevent F2P players from getting zeroes and losing everything, and ways to protect them from maxed castles. 1.) Attacking costs stamina, so attacking lower level players is a waste of time and resournces. 2.) There is a level gap protection. If you attack a castle that is more than 3 levels below yours, you don't get as many Resournces. 3.) You can remove all troops from garrison (defense) so that an attacking player only takes Resources and doesn't kill any troops. 4.) Focus on 1 troop type and your "Pro March" if you have a single strong march you can fight a lot of players off, or make it hurt when they attack you.

can you use Season ants against the groundhog?
Yes you can. It was amazing for my little AH18 with 130% stats to do 9m damage on Groundhog.

Hopefully, they continue to improve the rewards and make it worth it.
