Losing the options for individual storage purchase they are forcing organizations to upgrade to a more premium plan. This kind of strong-arm tactics really left a bad taste in our mouths for Google.

All the Device Management features are gone. All additional storage is gone. Google is too unreliable even for paying users now. It is shocking they pulled the plug on additional storage for individual users. Probably have to end up migrating about a hundred users to something non-google. Damn you Google.

We're running into this at the organization I work for. We're a nonprofit and so we don't have a contract (that I'm aware of). I realized the problem when I created a couple Organizational Units with more storage allotment. When I tried to apply the new OU to an employee it didn't work. I opened a ticket and was told they would move us over to Workspace within 24 hours. That was 3 weeks ago 😞. I can't purchase storage and I can't get Google to move us over to Workspace so we're seemingly just stuck. I keep updating the ticket, but nothing seems to change. Meanwhile our VP of Comms can't get her email so we had to create this crazy workaround for her. So frustrating.

Ugh that’s a mess! Are they keeping you on a nonprofit (free) version of workspace?

Based on the case description, you are having storage issues with 2 of your users in your Google Workspace Business Starter plan, is that correct?
[1] The option to purchase individual storage has been deprecated hence the reason why user is not able to sign up for Google One storage using a Google Workspace account.
[2] Google Workspace Business Starter subscription has a 30 GB storage limit per user, pooled storage is available for you to set up different storage limits for users, however this feature is available for Google Workspace Business Standard editions and above.

We have Google Workspace Business Starter. I still have 1 TB for my own account from legacy (not One) plan available in my Google Drive. But the Google Workspace interface says the pool is 536% used... Appears it's not possible to add more space for Business Starter. Google is just getting too expensive and greedy for small businesses (we already spend spend a - relative - fortune on Google Ads), must begin to look for alternatives for mail and calendar. We have already slowly begun using Dropbox for storage as the new Google Drive client is horrific with it's virtual drive concept.

The only problem is that if you are on Starter, each user is limited to a maximum of 30GB of storage. It is not possible to manage this issue in this plan.

    • @RafaelKaissi

I'm having the same problem. And it's so confusing because I have the option to change this limit, but actually, nothing happens!

@@RafaelKaissi Unfortunately, I started migrating customers (1200 users) to Microsoft 365.

Just talked to Google... $12 / account (Workspace STANDARD) can pool..... OLD/Legacy customers who have Google One Indiviual storage MIGHT be able to keep it. .... Basically Google Workspace Starter $6/account. is pretty much locked in at 30GB storage... Office 365 has 1TB Storage for a similar price.

True. We are migrating to Microsoft.

  • @ppolomski
    @ppolomski 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

Is there a way to buy more storage for users in google business starter ? sincce you can't use pooled storage in this plan ...
You can't buy old storage add-ons and if you increase number of users you still can't allocate more then 30gb/user

Hello ItGenius Sir, I have Gsuite basic and I want to switch to google workspace starter. but some of my user have their own google drive purchased from previous months. I would like to know what will occur if I click the checkout button and changed my subscription. Is their current Gdrive subscription retained on their account or will it be removed when I switch? I also want to know, whether their email/files/sharing will be altered or eliminated. thank you if my question will be answered.

Long time user here of G Suite Legacy (free) also with a 100GB extra storage purchased a few years ago. Like it was already mentioned, the "manage storage" feature didn't work, even today now I did the switch to Business Starter plan, with just 4 days left of the grace period of G Suite Legacy. I still see the 130GB storage, so fingers crossed for when the cloud gremlins are fully finished migrating my account.

G Suite Legacy storage is just completely broken, I use it for managing my families email and storage, my personal account has a +100 GB upgrade which is currently working but I am unable to manage it at all (It tries to take you to Google One and then says you need to sign in with your personal account). I want to add additional storage to my mums account but I am completely unable to. On top of that as we are G Suite Legacy users we don't get support provided so we have no ability to reach out to Google to get it fixed.

G Suite legacy individual user here. Paying for additional storage via Drive. Available storage dropped with no warning yesterday, despite being billed just last month. Email, photos, Drive etc. threatening to stop working. No idea how to contact support (not available in Admin). Recourse: delete ALL my Drive, or half my photos. Shafted.

For other readers: they can't help. I went through the process of asking the question, setting up a meeting, discussing options. The person I spoke with was very friendly, and tried their best to help. But there are no hidden SKUs available to Google resellers to sell additional storage. They can only help with the obvious: move stuff to other accounts, forward email, or upsell you to a Google Workspace "Business Standard" plan.

Google storage has driven me up the wall. Just bought the Samsung Ultra S23. Get a message that i’m almost out of storage. I then try and find wherebto buy more storage. Clicked everywhere possible to buy storage and was given the absolute run around. Went on my iphone and logged into my Google account and there and behold there was a button to upgrade to 200GB at a click of a button. Seriously…thinking of switching back to iphone. And its just the 2nd day of being on Android.

I am a now on GW Google Workspace Business Starter .Free plan. Free edition (no charges). Was on Legacy Free. Followed the time deadline and changed. Picked up that the "Family/Vanity" free restored. Contacted support and they change to business starter free. The additional storage continued to work thoughout; all 4 users have.
As at now cant seem to change and am loath to cancel and cant add (more) if it is needed. It is being charged at the at the old prices. e.g. half the allocation for same money and also not shared as is the case on google one.
Allowing their business starter free to access google one storage plans for adding storage to the domain would be brilliant but for now seems like they just want us to upgrade/strongarm us to a higher tier. Hmmmm. As you say messy.

Word of warning, it seems that once your credit card expires, you're blocked from adding a new payment method effectively ending the ability for individual add-on storage.

I've just gotta say. I've seen several of your videos and I am always disappointed. Most of the time its just you talking when really I just want you to walk me through the steps of the task/s. Most of the time I get 90% of what you've said but it's how to navigate the interface that I don't understand. In the few cases where I've seen this I still haven't had the help I need but at least I can see where what you have on screen differs from mine. And I can start looking into whether the software was updated or you may have had a different circumstance.

@@itGenius_ And the really short sited portion of these changes is, I am already struggling to keep nonprofit customers from wanting to migrate over to 365 because in their mind they're already paying for subscriptions to get MS Office, so it's free and has more features. (MS made a true to history, diabolical but savvy move when they bundled their entire M365B platform into the nonprofit SKU and gave the first 10 hits for free...). It was already an uphill fight, and now Google pushing customers way just makes it worse. And the final nail in the coffin is 365 has split licensing, with an entirely free donated nonprofit tier, whereas Google Sales seems to have stopped doing that with the migration to Workspace. So at least on paper, nonprofits with lots of volunteer accounts are now strongly incentivized to migrate to 365, since it appears to cost less. (Of course that paper calculation omits the complexity of managing 365, the much worse spam filtering, making add-on security tools appealing etc. But decisions on often made on the tangible rather than harder to calculate...)
Google needs to be helping partners and evangelists keep clients on Workspaces, not push them away.
