Definitely one of the best Big Finish stories that was ever produced. Had a fantastic concept, in the fact that "what if the bad guys won", that plot-twist with the alternate Doctor was a huge shock the first time, and everyone is on top-form in terms of performances (seriously 6 and Evelyn are one of the best teams ever). Definitely glad that it was adapted to Series 1 (albeit very loosely), and Dalek was a great adaptation of Jubilee.

One big thing I noticed immediately about the "In universe" film trailer at the beginning of this story was: Besides referencing Blockbuster films and the Title itself spoofing the "Doctor Who: The Ultimate Adventure" Stage play (from 1989); the trailer was also a commentary on Doctor Who fandom and specifically Dalek fans. Using phrases like "More Daleks exterminating people" and "More Daleks blowing up in exciting ways". This is what fans get excited about in a Dalek story when they're watching Doctor Who,

Yeah, I was thinking the same. This story basically fulfills what I love the most of The Daleks. They're a microchosim of us. They're symbolic of our history and a dark reflection of humanity. Fans nowadays just think of the Doctor's personal history with them.

For some reason I'd love to see the Doctor reacting to something like that as a live action cold open and I imagine the Doctor in that trailer looking like Richard E Grant back when he appeared in Curse of Fatal Death.

The treatment of the Daleks in the alternate future is also a meta representation of 'Dalek Mania' that took place in Britain during the 60s during the initial seasons. There was merchandise everywhere (this was prior to the era where we take that for granted) and was part of the reason why those two non-canon movies were made as well as why Terry Nation tried taking them away from the show for a while. They were just that big on their own.
For another good Sixth Doctor/Evelyn story , I'd recommend 'Real Time'.

@@ZakJordan98 "Doctor Who and the Pirates" surprised me. I expected a purely campy fun story and got something that had surprisingly much dark and deep stuff in it. It also had some fun use of the "unreliable narrator" trope. And Gilbert and Sullivan! I loved it, even if it was not quite what I expected.

I absolutely adore Evelyn, my first Big Finish audio that I listened to was Spare Parts and even though I enjoyed it, I wasn't hooked. The second audio that I listened to was The Marian Conspiracy and I was instantly hooked.

EDIT: I came to the same comparison about Evelyn recently. Not as in-depth as you, but yeah. She is a lot like Donna; she is the best friend.

Six’s speech at the very last scene in part 4 might be my favorite moment of his. Just a grim and dark reminder of what we as humans are just capable of. It gets me teary eyed and was the deciding factor that six would become my favorite classic doctor.

Robert Shearman's work has been the best of the Big Finish I've listened to and his become one of my favourite Doctor Who writers. Scherzo has been my favourite of his. But I love this story. It makes the Daleks sympathetic but still menacing and greatly turns humanity as evil as the Daleks and greatly mirrors both the Nazi's and the Daleks in our culture. Better than any of the modern Who Dalek stories.

It's just so shocking to me how you did not talk more of the older broken Doctor cuz just as you said; I at least were positive that it was going to be Davros. But... when you heard in the end of Pt. 2 that it was the Doctor and then his whole conversation with Evelyn in Pt. 3 that... broke me. Just a welling of emotions bursted out because I was so shocked and sad and just so not ready for that to happen that I had to pause the audio just to take a breather and really think what just happened. I think why this happened is a part of the reason that Classic who doesnt really have many emotional moments, sure there is still some from time to time but they are often cut off by either characters "maning up" or some bigger problem like ailens invading that ruins the moment. But maybe thats just me being emotional and really loving the Evelyn & Six duo. Still tho, really some amazing acting from Mr. Baker and still such an amazing review by you too.

Hah, you hate the mock-American accent? Yeah, i can understand this. I grid my teeth any time British and US shows pretend somebody is German. It's usually so bad!
Liked your review to "Jubilee". It's such a great episode and it's awesome you enjoyed it. And Evelyn is a great companion. Yes, her dynamic with the Doctor reminds me of the dynamic Donna and her Doctor have. At the same time I love the idea of a history professor travelling with the Doctor through time. It quite adds something to episodes playing in the past, I think.

On the subject of the call with the United states president I can confirm as a very British sounding fellow that rather than funny it felt like a condemnation.
I have heard people imply that a posh voice is a sign of a intellectual superiority and this felt like it was calling those people out for some pretty unhealthy beliefs.
Edit: admittedly the voice itself was a bit over the top.

It's quite good, probably not a great, 10 to 15 minutes to long. But evelyn and the doctor are great. The dalek is decent and the humans just odd but in an ok way

I can understand how Britons mimicking American accents would grate, but believe me that it's just as bad the other way round as well. Americans attempting English accents usually sound absolutely atrocious!
TV shows/films/productions etc should just hire actors who already have the right accent...
