I pretty much love all the jaw harps from the cheapest to the most expensive. Of course some of the more expensive ones can do more and I find them a bit easier to hold and play. Unlike larger instruments you can put them in your pocket and take them almost anywhere. I've been a guitarist for 30+ years and yet I don't play my guitar everyday, while it takes only seconds to grab a jaw harp and play for a minute or two during my work breaks or while I'm watching our son during his baseball practices. It doesn't require electricity or even light to play, sometimes I lay back in bed with the lights off and just play the jaw harp or when I wake up in the morning I find it lifts my spirits to play for a few minutes. There aren't that many instruments that are as fun and easy to learn as the jaw harp.

P.S. Great video Jamie! I suspect I might have purchased a similar jaw harp that is made out of rebar, which gives it those really cool lines and is also polished in a similar fashion. If I am not mistaken most jaw harp reeds are made from hacksaw blades that have been cut and shaped, albeit not all are. I learn so much from both you and Porky, you guys are a wealth of knowledge and just all around good guys.

Frigate has been my go to, carry it in my pocket. Been buying some older ones, I just like the history of them even if they don't sound the best.

This past few days I was playing a lot of Half Moon Morchang from Ghorka (?). Super melodic. The muunharp in G 2 from Svatovsky and the Masko average also in G is awesome !
See you for a next Top video !

I just bought a Glazyrin Sahara/Minishty, really impressed with how clean the harmonics are, love it. Pretty quiet but definitely a great melodic harp (don't think it existed when this video was made?)

Hey 👋🏼 is there an update on your favorite melodic harps? I’m still trying to understand what constitutes a melodic harp from a rhythmic harp.

Do you have any info on what gives a harp melodic properties? Interesting that these pretty much cover all the different harp-making techniques but all end up with great harmonics. Would be interested to know what in the making process makes a harp melodic or saturated...

Someone gave me a harp as a gift and I have no idea how to tell if it is melodic or not. I’m not even sure what that means. Maybe you already have a video explaining things like this?

Do you recommend these harps in the video to beginners?

Although you can begin playing on any harp as a first harp, these may not be the best option due to price and the requirement of precise striking technique. The price on the tartar standard is quite low, so if you wish for a harp of this style you may want to look into the tartar standard.
