    Hello and welcome to my DIY Channel here on TH-cam.
    This Video is a time lapse of building our dream walk-in closet.
    The room measures 18'x12'. We decided for a HER and HIS side and installed an island in the middle. We have a total of 42 drawers made and installed.
    Cabinets are entirely made out of 3/4 in 8x4 birch panels. Back panels are 1/4in.
    Everything got birch edging ironed on it, primed and painted with 2 coats of white cabinet paint.
    Butcher block is also birch and got 5 coats of polyurethane paint.
    We also integrated a gun safe to keep things save.
    Overall material costs are around $5,000
    Time invested priceless. Took many many hours of hard work to build this walk-in closet.
    Overall project duration from planning, CAD designing and finally building and putting everything together was several month.
    Would I do it again? YES, absolutely.
    The quality and also cost savings compared to buying are just tremendous.
    Leave a comment and tell us what you think. Or just ask a question if you want to know some details. Critics are also welcome, makes us better for the next DIY project.

      Thanks. For a project like this, you wouldn't want to save a few dollars on material. It's actually birch. The cheaper plywood just isn't good quality. Oak would also do.

    • @ProjectDIY82
      @ProjectDIY82  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      At the moment I'm not planning on a drawer tutorial.
      But to get them even when closed you need to make sure they are 100% square and the slides are all lined up and level. My first drawers didn't close well but with 42 drawers in total I had plenty to practice :-)
      I didn't know if I'm able to build this closet but I just tried and I think it turned out pretty nice.

      Hooks were not the problem. The plastic hangers didn't bear the weight why I switched to wood hangers later. They had a good deal at HOME Depot. 5 Hangers for $3.99

    This is FANTASTIC!! Question....what are those wood things you keep setting down as you put the cabinets together...is it like a premeasured template to you get the distance between shelves the same for every cabinet? Was the tape on the floor for the same purpose? I would love to see your drawer schematics if you'd ever want to share them? We are building a new house and want to do a similar project for our master closet which is about the same size as your space. Very cool!

    • @ProjectDIY82
      @ProjectDIY82  2 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Yes, I used templates to get the spacing exactly the same.
      The tape on the floor was used to lay out the island. Wanted to see how big it should be and how much space I would have on all sides before I built it.
      I can share the plans but need to make them pretty first. I'll probably do a video for the design/plans.

    • @ProjectDIY82

    I want to know what is room size. How much space need to put an island on room

    • @ProjectDIY82
      @ProjectDIY82  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The room size is 18'x12'.
      How much space you need for an island depends on different factors and your personal preferences.
      Our cabinets are 2 feet deep. That narrows the "free space" for the island down to 8ft.
      Our island is 3 feet wide. That leaves us with 5 feet left resulting in 2.5 feet "walkway" on both sides of the island.
      In my opinion that's enough space to comfortably walk around and also to fully open all the drawers.

    • @ProjectDIY82
      @ProjectDIY82  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Correct, it's not secured to the wall. The initial plan actually was to put a 2x2 on top of the cabinets and screw it all together to the wall. But as the single cabinets are connected to each other it's already extremely heavy and also stable so that we decided not to screw it to the wall anymore. The cabinets don't move at all. One side was even so tight to get it in that I had to use a hammer. It's impossible for the cabinets to tip over.
