Thanks for this video. The amount of stress and frustration we went through trying to figure out towing weights, and what we could legally tow this summer, as we bought our first van was a real pain. Hopefully this saves a fellow newcomer the same ordeal.
Of course if you have a pre 97 car test pass then there is no 3.5T restriction. You can drive a vehicle of up to 7.5T plus a trailer up to 750 Kg making an 8.25 train weight. Having said that it does state 7.5T plus an unbaked trailer of up to 750 Kg, not sure if this also means you could drive a 6.25 T vehicle with a 2T braked trailer thus making the 8.25 train weight. Anyone know? I’d presume so.
If you're in Northern Ireland you still need your B+E, please be aware of this, they haven't alligned to the rest of the UK even tho the driving license is identical in appearance to any other UK license.
Silly UK Laws, Nanny State Ontario Canada G license rules. *Holders of G licence can drive a vehicle that does not weigh more than 11,000 kilograms, limited to small cars, vans and trucks. If there is a trailer (RV, etc.), then the weight of the trailer cannot exceed the total weight of 4600 kg and the total weight of two vehicles cannot exceed 11,000 kg."
Careful on your phraseology when giving advice to the public. "Physically tow it", is not the same as being legally been able to tow it based on the permissible weights of the tow car.
Sadly, the change came too late. I missed out by passing my test in April 97, when I was 17... Only just gained the ability to tow, without having to pass an expensive test. I'm now 44. Can't be arsed with a caravan now.
Surely nobody wants a flippin caravan until they’re at least 50? Before that I was going on boys holidays and exotic foreign travel. Happy now to have swapped the Caribbean for the Caravan
@@estd1984 err, for a family, that now would have little interest as they get older. Caravans....families.....no? Perhaps if they're only for older folk, that's why they are disappearing.

Hopefull see the same across the 🇪🇺
Bear in mind there are dimensional restrictions that are still in effect. The caravan must be less than 7 meter not including A-frame.

Why are you here then sir?
@@robhargraves3805 To offer an opinion.
I don’t get what the age of 44 has to do with it, genuinely confused, if you said 84 fair enough but 44 🤷🏻♂️
