  • Hi Guys!
    Over the years I have tried several different prosthetic sockets. The socket fit is the most important component of the prosthesis. Here is a video-review of my favourites. Please comment on what you think of different prosthetic sockets.

    My husband is a recent ak amputee. We have been looking into osseointegration because the socket is so painful for him. Thank you for your wisdom and advice. We appreciate all you share. Your English is great. You are a blessing to those of us seeking real information from someone who knows both.

      Im a CPO imo osseointegration has loads of downsides also it's not suitable for an active patient cuz can lead to fracture in the near future due to the amount of weight transferred directly towards the femur.

    I’m so glad you have profiled the ossur direct cast AK socket, ossur have done a fantastic job creating this AK version. It looks really comfortable especially for sitting. Would be great to see how you get on with it longer term. 🤗

    Just wondered if you or anyone else commenting has experienced an issue with the rubber sleeve coming away from the direct socket? I’ve had issue with this due to the resin lip area which hold the sleeve in place crumbling away and breaking off in shards . I’ve been told this shouldn’t happen period. But it has and I kinda feel I’m being blamed. Given I’ve done nothing but put it on and take it off - exactly as shown by the Ossur tech, I’m confident in saying it’s down to either materials or manufacture.

      Hi! You do nothing wrong. This happens to me as well so now days I need a new socker every year due to that and volume change. But since the process is so quick, I find that okay :)

      Hi thanks for replying. That’s crazy because they tried to tell me yesterday this was something that Ossur hadn’t seen before and tried to blame me for not using it or donning correctly!! 🤬
      I have an even bigger problem now !
      I went to have a new socket made yesterday and it has been made at least 2 inches shorter and it is so tight I cant get my stump to go past my valve button. Walking in it is almost impossible as the socket only goes approx half way up my stump as I’m not getting all the way into it. So it feels like it kind of dangling there insecurely. I’m literally at my wits end with it as I go on holiday in a week too.
      Think it’s time for me to start getting mad. Ha

    Is the direct socket more comfortable all around than the subischial socket? I go to get a direct socket tomorrow 10.6.22. OI is what I'd like to get. I'm a LAKA.

      @ChristofferLindheTripleAmputee  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Karen!
      Has your socket work out well?
      I think the direct socket is more comfortable especially when sitting down. And I have good support when walking. But I needed some different socket trials before I got it to work :)

    • @MusicInMotion_67
      @MusicInMotion_67 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ChristofferLindheTripleAmputee not at all. It's comfortable when I first put it on but it's so high on the groin even after cutting it down and it's not even touching the groin anymore (I have a rare skin disorder that's contributing to this discomfort). Sitting is extremely uncomfortable and I lose suction every time and my back and hip hurt when I go to get up. I lose suction often and the liner slides (again I think the texture of my skin contributes to this as well. As a life long BK this wasn't a problem but being an AKA is a huge problem). Blistering is a big problem. Again the skin does this easy anyway so the socket makes it worse.
      I went in to get a direct socket made and at the time it was being made it felt like the liner had slid down some during the process but since it was my first experience I wasn't sure on what I should feel so when they tried it on me after it was made, I couldn't get down in it all the way. I came back a week later in case it was from swelling and still couldn't get down in it. Sitting was way more comfortable but the stability wasn't there and I wouldn't trust it to not lose suction. I suspect this is largely due to not being down in it all the way. I would put my thumb in the side and completely loose suction.
      It looked like when she made it she made it harder on herself than it had to be. She didn't use a donning tube to get the silicone on so it was much harder for her. I think they are going to attempt another one, but I'm also trying to get OI approved which I think would resolve a lot of these issues.

    I think you're good doing good with the conical shaped prosthetic I have the same problem except from I was 350 lb now I'm 240 lb my leg is shaped funny and how to lose some weight I'm not too far from having to have surgery on my leg what's either put on weight to keep the leg working right or lose weight and have to have surgery😢

      I go in tomorrow 10.6.22 to have a direct socket made. I'm currently in a subischial with a suction and I hate it. It's uncomfortable, I can only wear it a few hours at a time and it takes forever to get it on because of the liner, making sure I have a suction which I lose often. I have a rare skin disorder that blisters easy and and this makes it worse. Sitting in it is difficult at best. I lose suction every time I sit and to top it off the liner slides down. I'm really hoping the direct socket will make a difference.
