  • I'm taking it back to the first decorated cookies I ever sold in my shop...10 years ago this Valentine's Day I opened my little shop in my home town...I have since closed the shop and moved 12 hours away, but these heart cookies always make me think of the excitement of that day!
    Cutout Sugar Cookie Dough:
    Bake at 325°F for 12-15 minutes…depending on the size of your cookies and your oven, your cookies may take more or less time in the oven
    1 1/4 cup Butter (Room Temp)
    1 cup Sugar
    1 Egg
    1/2 T Vanilla
    2 1/2 cup All Purpose Flour
    1/2 t Salt
    Royal Icing Recipe:
    2 Pounds Powdered Sugar (around 8 cups)
    6 T Meringue Powder
    2 T Corn Syrup
    1/2 T - 1 T Vanilla
    1/2 cup + 2 T Water (You will likely need more than this, but start here)

    I cannot tell you how much I LOVE this video. I'm learning to decorate and it is a lot harder than it looks. Love your little tips about the tip of the bag and how to tidy things up. Plus you go fairly slow and that helps us Southerners!

    Thank you! Most of the other videos I’ve watched about cookie decoration are so speeded-up that it’s hard to learn very much: I just watch them in awe. With yours, I not only watch with awe but actually learn some useful techniques. I hope my Valentine’s Day cookies this year will be somewhat close to yours in beauty. ❤️

    I had the bright idea to make and decorate Valentines Day cookies for my sweetheart thinking it would be so easy and fun. I’m on my second attempt now after not letting the cookies dry long enough and smooshing them after stacking. 😢 I have added respect for cookie artists out there.

    • @bakingwithryan331
      @bakingwithryan331  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Oh no!! I’ve done that many times!! You can do it!! Also…learn a lesson from me…don’t put them in an airtight container until the icing is completely dry or the icing will crystallize and your colors will bleed! 🤗❤️

    • @yourfriendmimi
      @yourfriendmimi ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@bakingwithryan331 Thank you for that tip! I thought the cookie would dry out if I didn’t keep it stored airtight but I guess the icing keeps it from drying out anyway?

    • @bakingwithryan331
      @bakingwithryan331  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@yourfriendmimi I would say you are good to keep it in an airtight container or bag after about 12 hours. That’s how long I usually leave mine set. The icing does help keep them fresh. I’ve made the mistake of bagging mine too soon as well and that moisture just smears everything

      Thank you so much!! I really appreciate that! I use Americolor “Super Red” or “Red Red”. I have the bottle that I have linked in my Amazon storefront. It’s a larger bottle, but it will last a long time. And even though it is very concentrated, you will still use quite a bit, so the larger bottle is best.

    Also do you prefer tipless bags? Can you do a vid with your preference and techniques on tips and tricks with tip less vs tips or your fav tips?

    • @bakingwithryan331
      @bakingwithryan331  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I haven’t been using the tipless bags for a super long time. I do find them easier to work with so far. The tip of the tipless bag is easier to clean than a piping tip would be. As far as piping tips, I really just use whatever. I try not to go above a size 3 for outlining and filling. But using a coupler and tips would be necessary if I was doing something that needed lets say a rose tip or leaves, or a rosette tip. I can definitely try to do a video in the future with some more of my preferences and tools once I have more of an opinion as far as tipless Vs tips. I do have 2 sets of Ateco brand tips linked in the description. If I had to choose a brand of tips, it would be these. While the Wilton ones are fine, I find that sometimes the same size tips like let’s say a 3 in Wilton will be different each time you buy a different one.

    Great video and such a slower pace. Love how you made me realize I can go over my outline multiple times to get closer to the edge. What consistency is your piping and flood? I think I heard your floor was 10 seconds?

    • @bakingwithryan331
      @bakingwithryan331  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you so much!! The white ones and the lightest pink flood is about 10 second….but I prefer to use a thicker flood 20-30 second or more to get a thicker layer of icing on top of the cookie. If I do a 30 second or more, I will usually use the same consistency to outline and then flood…you get a somewhat “boderless” look

      @@bakingwithryan331 and you measure seconds by splitting the icing and counting until it combines well yes?

      @bakingwithryan331  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@xeniaortiz8974 I measure by taking my spatula and drizzling a line over top and seeing how long it takes for it to sink into the other icing 🤗

    Wow! Nice video. How do you make your red icing? I cannot ever get that deeper red color!

    • @bakingwithryan331
      @bakingwithryan331  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you so much! I always use the gel food colorings, as they don’t water down the icing too much. I have some linked below. But a lot of times I buy a larger bottle of red because it takes more. They make a “Red Red” & a “Super Red” that tend to be more concentrated and get a deeper red color. I used the “Red Red” for these cookies

    How do you get your red so vibrant without over saturation or bleeding into the next color?
    Do you have a video on coloring?
    I'd like to know if you do black as well.
    Can you make some hearts with like black and red or black and pink?

    • @bakingwithryan331
      @bakingwithryan331  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi! For red, I use either “Red Red” or “Super Red” it tends to be more concentrated and doesn’t take as much coloring to get a deep color. For Black, I use “Super Black”. They can and will still bleed into the next color at times. I have not used black for the wet on wet technique, so I do not know for sure how it would do using it with other colors. I normally let the black or other color dry before I go over it with something else

    Ryan. You are a great Video host. Your kitchen has a lot of hard surfaces. This causes a slight echo which makes it hard to hear clearly. Investing in a better mic would really enhance your videos.
