i once got a train to a Chumbawamba gig in Bradford, UK, there was a nun sat opposite us, who got off at same stop and walked to the venue...., turns out it was Danbert Nobacon from the band - realised when he appeared on stage, still dressed as a nun lol
it was a great gig, when they played this song, the whole audience dropped down every time he sang 'i get knocked down' then jumped up when he sang 'but i get up again' lol@@ellatalks
Chumbawumba started as a band called Crass, they eventually became Chumbawumba, had a musical career of something like 40 years. This song was basically in the middle of that. The funny thing is, the band can totally pull out huge hits, but because they started off as a punk band, and basically just kept doing political stuff, they made a LOT of music with more of the intent to educate and/or scold people about political stuff. So. The good music part took a backseat to that. This is their best song. Their second best, is probably El Fucillado, a song about a guy who was supposed to be shot to death, they did shoot him, and he didn't die. .. Kinda wish they had stuck to drinking songs like this, but it's their choice.

Chumbawamba and Crass were different bands, both brilliant and from the same era and both with that Anarcho element, but Chumbawamba were from Burnley and Crass from Essex, a lot of Anarcho bands were sort of the same band like Citizen Fish, Culture Shock and The Subhumans, but Chumbawamba and Crass were completely separate.
