A few years back i eased a 350 with some extra woopow into an 85 shorty landcruiser. Had to replace the whole drivetrain from box to hubs at least twice, straighten the chassis once and weld up a crack in the firewall. Was fun at the time and the wheel stands were a hoot but ive settled for a much milder supercharged 200 series. Cant wait to see the patrol off road.
Its looking like its going to be a weapon bud. I just picked my 2014 PX Ranger up this week with a LS3 6.2 with a 6L80E transmission. Can't wait to get it on the beach for a run.
awesome stuff Sammy. Before you start it up for the first time pull the oil pressure sensor out and fill the lifter gallery up with oil. The oil will flow down to the crank ready for the first start.
I have an aluminium engine and while you know this but a super efficient cooling system and radiator is absolutely critical as it takes nothing to kill a aluminium engine. Put a biggest core rad in as possible.
I got a woody when you said "Chamfer".... can you say it again? Killer Build mate, will be so good knowing everything has been done right when your out punishing it up a sand hill. The thing is gonna sing!
Sam, that oil pickup you are using is the old style GM pickup that was superseded by a new design. GM replaced them back in the VX commodore days due to oil starvation issues. The new style pickup should have half the plate on the strainer removed, not a long slot style. Pretty strange to see them using an old one in their conversion kits.
Awesome vid Sam. Definitely the part i've been waiting for and want to see part two. I'm rebuilding my LS1 and have it stripped down, crankshaft has been polished up nicely (in good condition) and am in the process of cleaning everything and buying all the new bearings etc. Think i'm gonna have to become a Patreon supported as it's going to be well worth seeing your full rebuild vid.
No such thing as oversize crank bearings as it'd be kinda hard to add material to the crank and get larger ID bearings. Goes to show how much these blokes really know
Nice build Sam,.I don't know these motors well but are there roller tipped rockers for these guys. You have spent heaps on this thing and they would have topped it off nicely.
Love the build man, one question though why did you choose a 6l and supercharge it? Why didn't you put a LSA in it? Cost? Would love to know why cheers
This IS an L98. GM used the designation L98 for one of their Gen 4 LS motors. More specifically, it's a derivative of the L76 6.0L, only without DOD/AFM.
All new shiny parts are just the best. Looking good.......
Learning methodics and patience .. well done have fun with it.
Very impressive. So good to work with good knowledge and tools... Thanks for sharing. Steve
Can't wait to see it come alive

All that without a single beer
Like to see the feeler gauge put between the piston end caps , to see what the clearances are and how much flex is between each piston bottom end?

Andrew Gallagher rad idea! I like using a pressurized tank of oil attached to the sensor port
