  • Something I recorded off an arts programme back in 2007. Just think of it as a lil tribute to Edward Woodward.

Every May day I keep my appointment with the Wicker Man. I could easily watch it every week but I restrict myself to once a year to keep it special.
Hail the Queen of the May.

I could listen to edward woodward talk on the most boring subject on earth for hours without a problem. I just find him so relaxing to listen to him.

All time favourite film. A true Britsh Gem.
Much has been said of the strumpets of yore,
Of wenches and bawdy house queens by the score,
But I sing of the baggage that we all adore,
    The Landlords Daughter.

One of horrors truly classic films,...I've watched it numerous times,..and in Edward Woodward and Christopher Lee two of Britain's finest actors...the film as an unsettling gravity to it,..and the haunting music gives it an uneasy feel and a real atmosphere ....great film

Yeah agreed, it was only after several rewatches that I realized the songs (for me) are what made this what it is

One of those stars who is just un-star-like
He seems to be 20 years younger here than he was in The Equaliser in the 80s

3:33 If I was Kermode, I would have waited until Woodward was prepared to move on.
He hadn't been back there for over 30 years so it must be quite a lot to take in.

In most horror films the formula is that the villain is killed by the hero at the end but in Wicker Man it's the hero who's killed at the end while the villains getaway.

There's always a new generation who discover films and TV shows so it doesn't excuse ruining the unexpected moments of them. I didn't see The Whicker Man at the cinema, far too young but caught it on TV years later. My experience of it and the shock of the unexpected would have been lessened and ruined had I seen this doc giving it all away.

that seems to be a recurring plot line in a lot of British horror films, a good man comes to a place to investigate a crime and becomes a victim himself - I remember a British horror movie called "The Asylum" where this man is sent to an asylum to investigate a series of mysterious deaths and in the end he becomes a victim himself

@@obscureentertainment8303 Howie had to be a fool and a virgin, so convincingly acted by Woodward.

The restored version is very good, Ingrid Pitt was somewhat underused but in 1982 would play in the film Who Dares Wins also with Edward Woodward.

He's one of those actors who looks nothing like he did before when they made the film.

To be fair Edward Woodward did look basically the same for many years. He was well known as The Equalizer on TV, about 15 years after The Wicker Man, where he looks a lot like he did in the film. This interview is just a few years before he died, i think.

Relegated to B movie status. Ha! I wonder why? The film could be a documentary for the practices of the elite I'm guessing. It's too good a film and dosent make sense that it wasn't more "successful" commercially. Can't imagine a film like this being allowed now, glad it slipped through the cracks.

My partner & I spent last weekend celebrating his 50th birthday in the Wicker Man village in Kirkcudbright! We went to the Anwoth church graveyard, the school house yards across the path is now used as a holiday cottage & we had a drink in the Ellangowan pub, which doubled as The Green Man. We didn't manage to go up to where the Wicker Man itself was filmed, due to a weather change, but we will next time we go back...the final scenes still chill me!
