Several of these new rookies in the WNBA are already substantially richer than most of the WNBA veterans due to college NIL $, endorsements and marketing. That is definitely a big part of it as wnba salaries are not that high.

    • @mc76
      @mc76 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

Bingo. NIL has changed the calculus, particularly for athletes who--and let's be honest here--are attractive, feminine, and heterosexual. Reese, Clark, Livvy Dunn, Paige Bueckers, the Cavinders, Hailey Van Lith, Flau'je Johnson, et al., all make 10 times the WNBA's average salary in endorsements.

CC has spent the major portion of her life crafting her brand with gracious pre and post interviews focusing on the people that came before her and she try's to just play good basketball yet envy or whatever people call it today is leveled at her like no other and I think her fans feal for her because she has done such a good job with the "not basketball stuff"

Right, but only current fans know who those players are. Of course there are talented players in the league but, are they popular? I'm a 59 year old male who doesn't even watch the NBA and I know who Catlin Clark is. She is your NEO, your Jordan as far as bringing attention to the league. I'm now interested.
Of course, pick her up 94 feet. But even I am entertained by watching clips of her draining 3's from 10 feet behind the arc. You will all be sorry if she gets injured. Don't baby her but don't abuse her. Go Fever.

Follow the ticket sales…it’s 90% about Catelin Clark about excitement/interest and where people are buying tickets.
The other WNBA players need to simply have good sports man ship and appreciate or zip it…hilarious Angel or any others are trying to take credit?!
Laughable they give people crap for not covering nba before…nobody wanted the content is why they didn’t cover.

No former or current WNBA players need to have any resentment towards Clark…
You’re not allowed to tell the general public what they are supposed to like and find interesting.
The WNBA has been boring since it’s inception because all they do is play in the paint. So, you don’t have any exciting shooters and you’re playing a low score game compared to the men of course you’re not gonna get viewers and popularity.
So for any other player to say it’s their time to shine because of themselves and all the others… well, the viewership will tell you that’s absolutely not fucking true 😂

Pat McAfee did an excellent job of showing who is bringing eyes to the league and putting butts in the seats. These people are just too afraid to speak the truth because they don't want to hurt feelings.

I was a season ticket holder the first two seasons of the Storm, but I didn't love the style of play enough to stay on. I was a casual viewer after. The excitement and style of the NCAA tournament caused me to tune in again. I loved the Liberty last year. But this year is too violent. I don't like bully ball. I don't like seeing players clotheslined and smashed in the face. The play against Skylar Diggens-Smith was super upsetting (mouth full of blood). They need to clean it up and free it up. Someone is going to get seriously hurt.

Anyway, it's not about the record, it's about the attention that CC has generated for her sport. You cannot deny that fact. Her college career has everything to do with it.

This Stacy dales made some really good points, but How do you talk about chennedy carter without mentioning her history of being kicked off of teams for her behavior? When you are dishonest about one fact, kind of calls into question everything you opined on.

Despite Rich wanting more rivalries like Fever vs Sky, its not a rivalry when you take a cheap shot on your opponents best player while your own claps and gives a hug. Then rants about she also brings seat by being the bad guy. ROFLMAO.
That is plainly jealousy. Look, I don't like this rookie hazing stunt throughout the league. I don't like it when done on Angel Reese or on any other. However, the level done on CC by the Sky is on a different level that isn't even a basketball play.
And the reason why as stated by Reese is downright idiocy. I love it when Reese continues to insert herself near CC when CC doesn't even mentioned Reese. Reese did it during the draft by posing next to CC and photobombing her interviews.
Also tweeting out that she also brings seat and money into the league. Then having people proving that seh only brings in 1/3 seats and only 1/5 revenue. Then finally deleting the tweet. Not to mention the chartered flight comments.
So Reese thinks she is so hot that it justifies her and teammates conducting non basketball plays on CC? Nobody even acknowledges her presence. She act like the neighborhood / class bully, then cries when she doesn't get noticed.
I no longer watch WNBA games because I can't explain this action to my children and family any more.

Stacey saying that the unprecedented defensive pressure is a sign of respect falls a little flat when her opponents taunt her throughout the game. You don’t taunt someone whom you respect.

The W needs to change for the incremental viewers to stay. Fundamental basketball doesn't include handchecks and thuggery. This is not that hard and it just needs to be cleaned up. Hard and disturbing to watch.

resentful Bc “they’ve” been there all along? BS! Vet WNBA players aren’t dumb and know she’s good for the sport via revenue. Why does the coach need to keep sending plays to the league, why don’t even her teammates stand up for her?

But, what if the next cheap shot on CC results in a Damar Hamlin type scenario?
Certainly the narrative would change right? Thats my overwhelming concern. Physical, competitive play is all well and fine. But, thats only on a basketball play. As we all have acknowledged, this was not a basketball play.

If there is resentment from the top players then where are their podcast. People lock on to people based on a personal perceived connection some how. What do people know about A’ja on a person level? It’s not the responsibility of anyone to promote her except the WNBA and herself. But if she’s going to promote “Woke” she’ll end up like Bud Light.

12:59 SD just listed 5 or 6 names, almost all of which are white players. Let’s not fool ourselves and ignore the race element. As a new fan to the W after following CC and Kate Martin the last couple years, I have enjoyed watching A’ja Wilson on LV (due to watching Kate) and Temi Fagbenle, even though she’s now hurt, (due to watching CC). There are others, but fandom isn’t/shouldn’t be along racial lines (and I don’t think it is for 97% of fans, both ways).

Stacy, of course Aja can score more she's bigger and she is not double team all the time, we watch the game as well. Downplaying the dirty hit of Carter is bs, it's not isolated, there is targeting. These WNBA former players like Lobo are protecting the image of WNBA. You cannot force fans who to like, if not for Clark you will not get this attention. These women are delusional, that's why this league still depend on NBA not earning money. You can't accept the fact that there are good players but they have no APPEAL, STAR factor that Clark have. I wish Caitlin just play in Europe and leave this circus, they can enjoy their 8,000 fans.😂
