When I was stationed at Fort Polk, Louisiana in 1976, our on-base community theater did "Dames At Sea" and I played the dual roles of Hennesey and the Captain. Unknown to us, a Department of the Army Recreation judge came one night - and I got awarded Best Supporting Actor, U. S. Army Continental U.S.

This is terrific. Big mistake not having a studio audience though. Ann Miller is killing it at 51

Hello Sasha, so nice to hear from you. It was my pleasure to post this, and as I recall, the person who gave me this tape got it directly from your father. That's why the quality is so good.

One day I wish someone would release the soundtrack, at least, if not a clean digital video. :) (lots and lots of licenses and clearances, of course).

Thank you so much for uploading this. I was a young man when I first saw this TV production. Now, I'm an old fart 50 year later. But I still enjoy a fun musical parody, with Ann-Margret, Ann Miller, and last, but not least, the wonderful Anne Meara.

Thank you so much for posting this. There was a Broadway revival of Dames at Sea at the Helen Hayes Theatre a few years ago. I am the Godson and executor of one of the writers (Robin Miller). He died a couple of years before then but incredibly (unbeknownst to me) in his will he had stipulated that, if there were ever a Broadway revival, two of his executors were to be flown out Business Class by the producers to see the show, and looked after, all expenses paid, while there. I, his Goddaughter, and our partners spent a fabulous week in NY, (limos waiting at the airport), and were put up in a wonderful hotel right by Times Square, and were even given spending money! The show was brilliant (the very best seats in the house) with a hugely enthusiastic audience, and there was a fabulous after-show party (they took over Sardi's for the night). We had an amazing time. Robin was a wonderful man and this has been a great reminder of him, and that fantastic week!

Love your story and thanks for writing. I must say that the quality of the material in "Dames at Sea" indicates that the authors could have gone on to other successful musicals. The book is concise and very funny; the music and lyrics are superb.

@@auroraspiderwoman5886 Lovely to get your feedback. Robin did go on to write a musical of Vanity Fair but sadly it was not a success. He did a great deal of other work over the years but DoS is his lasting legacy. It's so nice to know there are still so many fans out there.

Thank you so much for posting this. I have had the album of the original NYC production since I was in High School (1972) and have always loved the music. It was so exciting to finally see it. Too bad that all the songs are not included in this TV production. I encourage anyone who enjoyed this to download the original cast album.

Lovely! You can hear Ann's taps even with the volume muted! And Harvey Evans is darling as always, even if he's stolen Young Ben's sailor costume.

    • @auroraspiderwoman5886
      @auroraspiderwoman5886  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

Yes, Harvey must have taken off a little time from performing in "Follies" to tape this fall '71 special. Hope you enjoy---it's a bit of a mixed bag, but Ann Miller is a riot, and this is a pretty good record of what her dancing was like in "Mame" ('69-'70) and the subsequent shows ("Anything Goes," "Panama Hattie") she did in stock.

Thanks for sharing another gem, and what a rare treat!! I love each Ann (and Anne), but have always had a special appreciation and love of Ann Miller. I loved this era of her career where she was starring in one stage musical after another and touring while making cameos on TV (she was fabulous in the musical episode of the Love Boat). This is fine camp, and Miller in fine form and I love it! 😆

Hey, I love your posts! But I respectfully wanted to ask, do you ever plan to fully release your collection and remove the not for trade/sale specifications at some point?
I understand this wouldn't be any time soon , but I'm considering the future. Say, in 15, 20, 40 years, will this amazing archive of show you've collected simply disappear and no-one can see the full performances? Or will they be shared to the bootleg trading community? The real one, not the fake, low quality, TH-cam Rip one that's ultimately destroying what myself (and you, and many others) have been a part of and have contributed to for many years.
I love to see these rare clips shared, a couple are from copies I have myself, which I was specified not to ever share.
But I can't help but wonder if there is a future plan to sharing the full shows? One of my rarest recordings in an Archive from the original production of EVITA, which would have been lost after Hal's passing, but I was lucky to have a friend very close to him gift the VHS to me. To think it was almost lost completely is such a sad thought. I would hate to see this collection have the same fate. And the answer can be no, that's your right to owning all theses shows, but even some of clips that you've posted have suffered quality loss because of how YT processes SD footage and .VOBs would be much better viewing quality. But really I guess my question is, will the "vault" be opened at some point in the future? It's okay if won't be, but I had to ask. :)
Happy New Year, and thank you for everything you share!

@Broadway Archive Not opposed to trading: I would love to have a good-quality video of Andrew Lloyd Webber's "Stephen Ward" or "Marguerite" (music by Michel Legrand, with Henshall, Ovenden, Hanson). Not to mention Patti in "Sunset," Elaine Paige in "Evita" and "Chess," lots of Encores! shows, etc., etc.
Yes, everything will eventually be shared and/or available to watch.
And is the "Evita" video you mention from London or NY? Is it pro-shot? Who is Eva? Feel free to reply to magadoff@aol.com,

I think these things should be shared and accessible to the public! I think you’re wonderful Aurora! Bootleg traders can be such little snots, hoarding shows to themselves that don’t really belong to them in the first place! Theatre is meant to be shared and accessible to all!!! The young up and coming artists like myself and my friends can’t even afford to go to theatre now a days when it’s open! Which is heartbreaking. And now we’re out of work, every penny will count just to survive! Thank you for continuing to make this viewable to all...And not just locked up in private in a basement!

I agree. Also the cut songs, lyric changes, changed arrangements, and random key changes don't work for me at all. I love the original show. I have been looking for this made for TV version for many years to see how they did it and while I'm thankful I finally got to see it, I'm a bit disappointed in how it was executed with this otherwise very talented cast.
