The long version is like 21 minutes long, and you can tell the lead singer is also the drummer, a significant portion of that time is drum centric. This is a cover of a Temptations song.
I believe this is a link to the official released version, I don't think it's the same performance... th-cam.com/video/D0BCUumCEFY/w-d-xo.htmlsi=PzbuGGbrM5sprzth
Jay, I hope you eventually listen to the long version of this song. It is about 22 mins long, you will go on a music journey unlike no other. While this is not the original, it is a classic. I think what you found is the first half of the long version. Enjoy!
Rare earth… I remember where I was, and what I was doing the first time I heard them on the radio, love, love their music every time you react to someone from my wonderful growing up years, I smile 😊😊😊😊😊
Being from Motown I was lucky enough to know one Rare Earth band member John Persh & played in a golf league with his brother Reggie. Good people for sure. JOHN LEFT THIS WORLD TOO SOON HOWEVER.
It was cut off because the full-length version is longer than 20 minutes. Once upon a time, TH-cam had a limit for the length of an upload. The radio friendly edit also removed the softer intro.
Originally a Temptations song. In rare Earth, the singer is also the drummer. The radio version of this song was a cut down version without the intro nor the bass solo. The album version is 15+ minutes long and takes up an entire album side, so check out the album version for the bass solo and an extended drum solo.
This had been recorded by The Temptations, with Eddie Kendricks (the guy who did falsetto) singing lead. Rare Earth was Motown venturing into the white, rock market. Motown even set up the Rare Earth label for this venture. I'm used to hearing the radio version that was edited down to around 2-3 minutes which started right where the band goes uptempo and you hear the crowd noise. This was probably the first half of the LP version, which I think took up a whole side, or nearly. Want a bass solo? Try "Hello Hello" by The Sopwith Camel who had the gumption to put a bass solo on a hit single in the 60s.
What you just listened to was a shortened version, which is why it got cut off. The full version is nearly 22 minutes. They have another couple of long songs: (I Know) I'm Losing You (clocking in at nearly 11 minutes), and Ma (clocking in at just a bit over 17 minutes).
This is one of the best covers of any tune and a great example of rock in the late ‘60’s/early’70’s. It really drives. I think this is a perfect tune for you.
Loved Rare Earth! Signed to Motown and many people thought they were a black group until they saw them live Other hit songs from them are "I Know I'm Losing You" snd "Hey Big Brother".
There's actually a 21 minute version of Rare Earth's Get Ready-check out the album version for the full version. Try I Know I'm Losing You-album version!! Psychedelic soul!!
Some Funky Blue-eyed Soul from Motown was the band Rare Earth and still have a great following. I saw them in concert in 2004 and a Jazz Festival. Amazing!!!!
I just listened to AT40 countdown for the week ending May 16, 1970, and "Get Ready" (#16), "Love On A Two-Way Street" (#12), and "Everything Is Beautiful" (#7) are on there.
This was another Temptations classic, as was their hit version of I'm Losing You (also done by Rod Stewart). The three versions of the latter are all great in their own way.
I was lucky to see Rare Earth in 1971, they toured around Southern Ontario quite a bit as it is so close to their base. Played about an hour+ Get Ready at the Sauble Beach Pavilion, probably a few people here knows where that is and the bands they had. Jay, you should consider redoing this one with all the tune. The source you used played about a third or less of the album version, that's why it cut off like that. Tune gets even better!
In the long version, all the musicians get a solo, including the drummer. Amazing! Since that video cheated us out of a great song by abruptly ending, you should revisit it and play the full long version.
TEMPTATIONS version all the way for me!! Eddie Kendricks' falsetto is amazing, and he sings the full lead for that version. I never realized that this version had an extra intro and outro where the Temptations' version is just the main song, which all those Motown songs were short and quick like that for the most part.
There can't be many people in this country who haven't heard this song, I mean it's been on so many commercials. Great song though, definitely a classic.
J, you need to listen to another version of this song--possibly the long version. You missed out on a lot of great music! And....more Motown, please! Love what you're doing. Keep it up, my brother. ❤
Some more bass solos to check out... Crossroads - Cream YYZ - Rush Anesthesia (Pulling Teeth) - Metallica The Lemon Song - Led Zeppelin The Fish - Yes My Generation - The Who Stay Clean - Motorhead Some of these you may have reacted to...not sure.
new band to check out. please do a band called fire tiger. check out their song called energy. they will give you a 80's vibe. lead singer is female. you won't be disappointed.
Yes we had the best music because it was real musician talent, unlike today's synthethiz karaoke, your guys are hearing real instruments, thanks for reaching out
I was born in 1971 so ya'll have to help me out: who sung this first, this group or the Temptations? I honestly don't know. Can somebody help a brother out?
Well, after 2 1/2 years, you finally jumped on it. (my suggestion!😂) But, you missed the last half of the song! Not your fault but the full recording adds time and what makes it so great (and I did like the Smokey Robinson original too.) is they all get their long jam solos (think of Grand Funk Railroad‘s first video you did only jazzier!) And they go off! Do yourself a favor search it again and you get the last half it’s gonna be long as I warned you 2 1/2 years ago but they go down swinging! You won’t be disappointed! By the way, I believe they were the first group of mostly white musicians to be signed on by Barry Gordy at Motown! The drummer/lead singer is still performing in his 80s and sounds very near what you hear now! Please come back with a full one!
The long version is like 21 minutes long, and you can tell the lead singer is also the drummer, a significant portion of that time is drum centric. This is a cover of a Temptations song.
It's already not true.
@@rsccostaricaWhich part is not true?
I have no idea why this particular album cover was used: th-cam.com/video/DYmXH23_JSI/w-d-xo.htmlsi=U_GYzuk_EArmhEN0

One of the greatest songs ever recorded!!❤
Rare Earth is often mistaken for being a black group. It's crazy because they are coined as being "blue eyed soul". They sound amazing.
And they were signed to Motown Records.
Same with KC and the Sunshine Band.
As a kid, I considered them Motown's answer to Blood, Sweat, and Tears or Spencer Davis Group.
One of the greatest live versions of any song
LOVE that late 60's keyboard! I think every 70's kid knew this song. Such a BANGER!
This was a classic for the Temptations in 1966. Rare Earth was at Motown just like the Temptations.
Written by Smokey Robinson and first recorded by the Temptations in 1966, Rare Earth did it later that same year !
Blue eyed soul at its best
Jay, I hope you eventually listen to the long version of this song. It is about 22 mins long, you will go on a music journey unlike no other. While this is not the original, it is a classic. I think what you found is the first half of the long version. Enjoy!
Rare Earth was the first white act signed by Motown
That was Debbie Dean actually. Rare Earth was the first successful White act signed but not the first
This band played for my older brothers high school senior party
I think your next trip through the Rare Earth journey should be "I Know I'm Losing You" (long version).
Edit: Another Temptations cover, by the way.
Rare earth… I remember where I was, and what I was doing the first time I heard them on the radio, love, love their music every time you react to someone from my wonderful growing up years, I smile 😊😊😊😊😊
Glad you brought them back!! This was a major party song!
Check out the long version
Iron Butterfly is over 17 minutes long but well worth it
This is a live recording from the CALIFORNIA JAM. There is a video of it.
Being from Motown I was lucky enough to know one Rare Earth band member John Persh & played in a golf league with his brother Reggie. Good people for sure. JOHN LEFT THIS WORLD TOO SOON HOWEVER.
Great Song ❤
OMG 😳 haven't listened to them in ages 🎶🎶🎼
Another song with an amazing base solo is “Scorpio” by Dennis Coffee. From 1972.
Next for Rare Earth should be I Know I’m Losing You
It was cut off because the full-length version is longer than 20 minutes. Once upon a time, TH-cam had a limit for the length of an upload. The radio friendly edit also removed the softer intro.
One of my favorites!!! 🎵🎶🎧🎹🎼😎
Temptations also did this song
And this is a cover of that song. 🙂
Temptations did this song 1st
1969 suggestion - "Little Green Bag" by The George Baker Selection.
A Motown band!
Originally a Temptations song. In rare Earth, the singer is also the drummer. The radio version of this song was a cut down version without the intro nor the bass solo. It's a live version. The drummer is the singer, BTW
It's actually a studio recording with audience noises dubbed in later.
Classic. Thanks.
One of my favorites. Always makes me want to dance ❤
BTO " Hey You" is a song with a great bass solo and we know you love you some BTO
This is a good cover. You need to check out The Temptations original version!
Check out the song hey big brother, It's.
Another rare earth jam
What you just listened to was a shortened version, which is why it got cut off. The full version is nearly 22 minutes. They have another couple of long songs: (I Know) I'm Losing You (clocking in at nearly 11 minutes), and Ma (clocking in at just a bit over 17 minutes).
(I Know) I'm Losing You - Rare Earth 1971. Nothing else like this song.
yeah
"Fast Skate" at the Kendale Lakes Skating Center in Miami, FL. We were flying. I have never heard the beginning. Was this a live version?
This is one of the best covers of any tune and a great example of rock in the late ‘60’s/early’70’s. It really drives.
I think this is a perfect tune for you.
Iron Butterfly - In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida (1968) th-cam.com/video/Tfpn3wHoNGA/w-d-xo.html long drum solo, long song but worth it
My favourite R.E. song is "Midnight Lady". Gives off such happy vibes, very uplifting track
I remember when this came out just a few years after the Temptations recorded it. 1970 or 71. I had never heard this extended version.
Loved Rare Earth! Signed to Motown and many people thought they were a black group until they saw them live Other hit songs from them are "I Know I'm Losing You" snd "Hey Big Brother".

Fun fact for you Jordan, this was written by Smokey Robinson😁😉
Some Funky Blue-eyed Soul from Motown was the band Rare Earth and still have a great following. I saw them in concert in 2004 and a Jazz Festival. Amazing!!!!
As soon as I clicked on this, sent my audio to MAX!!! And it is the drummer singing!
You need to see the live version!
I just listened to AT40 countdown for the week ending May 16, 1970, and "Get Ready" (#16), "Love On A Two-Way Street" (#12), and "Everything Is Beautiful" (#7) are on there.
This is good but I thought it was the dance song get ready cause here I come
This was another Temptations classic, as was their hit version of I'm Losing You (also done by Rod Stewart). The three versions of the latter are all great in their own way.
Your the first TH-camr i know to review this song. Too bad you didn't do the 20 minute version
Rare Earth was the first band I ever saw live...and I was only 6.
Major jam for sure, one of my favorites. Love the long version
Rare Earth was the only white band Motown signed.
The solo at 6.20 is a soprano saxophone, not trumpet.
The album version is an extended 21 minute jam.
That brought me back. Way back, lol
An awesome song from my youth!!!! So glad to hear it, it's been a while!!! Thanks Jay!!! ❤❤❤❤❤❤
In the long version, all the musicians get a solo, including the drummer. Amazing! Since that video cheated us out of a great song by abruptly ending, you should revisit it and play the full long version.
Omg, just remembered I saw rare earth in like '83 in Akron, ohio. Wow, thanks for the memory!
Saw them do that in 1970. My first concert. The drummer was the singer.
Yes! Peter Rivera was an exceptional drummer/singer, which was rare. Only Karen Carpenter and Don Henley come to mind comparatively.
TEMPTATIONS version all the way for me!! Eddie Kendricks' falsetto is amazing, and he sings the full lead for that version. I never realized that this version had an extra intro and outro where the Temptations' version is just the main song, which all those Motown songs were short and quick like that for the most part.
They were one of the first white bands signed to Motown.
Peter Rivera is the drummer and lead Vocal
So much good music has been lost over the decades!
"Hey Big Brother" ('71) | RARE EARTH
(note: changed my mind)
There can't be many people in this country who haven't heard this song, I mean it's been on so many commercials. Great song though, definitely a classic.
Terrific song
There’s an excellent bass solo in Babymetal’s live “Rondo of Nightmare with Mischief of Metal Gods Intro” video.
My first concert, 1971!
Amazing ♡
Listen to them alot when they where popular
J, you need to listen to another version of this song--possibly the long version. You missed out on a lot of great music! And....more Motown, please! Love what you're doing. Keep it up, my brother. ❤
It was big back then...I had the records, 45s etc. :p
Love this song
Some more bass solos to check out...
Crossroads - Cream
YYZ - Rush
Anesthesia (Pulling Teeth) - Metallica
The Lemon Song - Led Zeppelin
The Fish - Yes
My Generation - The Who
Stay Clean - Motorhead
Some of these you may have reacted to...not sure.
Blue Eyed Soul/ Doo Wop from '75: "Eighteen With A Bullet" by Pete Wingfield.🔥🔥🔥🔥
For a landmark instrumental dominated by bass-playing, check out Stanley Clarke and his song Lopsy Lu from 1974 (7 min. 3 sec) studio version
This was a radio staple back in the day, sans the beautiful segue at the beginning, of course. Cheers....
Queen (Dragon Attack) full in bass guitar
This was my skating song!
Maggie Bell- It's been so Long, Scottish Soul
Good song good reaction
Great music!
new band to check out. please do a band called fire tiger. check out their song called energy. they will give you a 80's vibe. lead singer is female. you won't be disappointed.
You need to listen to live version on the live album 14minutes
Try rare earth I just want to celebrate 😅
Bass? 2 Deep Purple songs : Fireball & Pictures Of Home!
Yes we had the best music because it was real musician talent, unlike today's synthethiz karaoke, your guys are hearing real instruments, thanks for reaching out
Hi J.
Long version please
Hear the long version it's addicting!
THAT'S NOT IT JAY ! I should know I believe it was about 15 min. Cause me and my aunt would DANCE to the last note!😊😂😂😂❤❤❤
I am so sorry that they cut the base solo off in the middle. There are longer videos. This song is at least ten minutes long.
So you want a bass solo? YT, the Who 5:15 live at RAH. To get right to the solo, 4:56. Enjoy Entwisle's performance
Good call. Nothing but fun. Next time check out the full album cut. Thanks. ☮️
I was born in 1971 so ya'll have to help me out: who sung this first, this group or the Temptations? I honestly don't know. Can somebody help a brother out?
Jay, looking for a good solo bass song, check out Nilsson's " Jump Into the Fire" full length. A great drum solo also.
Well, after 2 1/2 years, you finally jumped on it. (my suggestion!😂) But, you missed the last half of the song! Not your fault but the full recording adds time and what makes it so great (and I did like the Smokey Robinson original too.) is they all get their long jam solos (think of Grand Funk Railroad‘s first video you did only jazzier!)
