    This video is super helpful. Just picked the game up myself and always play solo. This video helped clarify the flow of gameplay and some of the ambiguity in the rules. Great job!

    Thank you for making the video! Really helps me to be clear on how solo play works. Very helpfull that you added some text, to explain the steps you overlooked while playing. Very impressed how you juggled both playing ànd explaining/ narrating ànd filming both angles. Looking forward to my next solo play.

    Once the first glance, the game board looks a bit dry, but the more you look at it, the more you are drawn into it. The artwork is truly 'charming'. Thanks, Colin! You always bring interesting games to the table. The other day I found your old video of 'Victoriana'; I really enjoyed watching it as well.

      Well thank you very much! We try and have a diverse set of games on the channel, yet I do tend to play a lot of the same types of games so it is good to branch out. Victoriana is a hidden gem I think. The game play is excellent and enjoyable and it has a very unique resource management feel for a co-op game. Thanks so much for watching and commenting!

      You think this looks dry, check out the first edition. It's the most drab, bland thing imaginable. Euro purists hate this one since it's actually colorful and interesting to look at.

    Great playthrough! It looks like you had to cut the video when you reset the board between rounds because that process can be really time consuming. I've found that you can speed the game up a lot if you prepare the board for round-changes ahead of time. There are enough tiles in the box that you can put stacks on each space in the central board - 4 facedown and then one faceup at the top.
    When the round ends, you just throw away any faceup tiles that happen to linger, and flip the facedown tiles that're already in position.

    Hi Colin. I only play games solo and also would always want to play a physical game rather than an App version. " Missing things" though as in your video, is the only advantage an App version of a game has. Yourself, together with Ricky Royal are the best board game channels out there, (especially for a solo or solo/co-op player like me). I always appreciate your work so thank you. I've watched this through twice now. Really tempted to buy.

    In the 1st round when you complete a color you take victory points. According to the rulebook (p.14) you won't gain the victory point bonus when you complete a color in solo mode. Instead you take a hex tile from the black depot and directly place it on your duchy. (Or am I missing something? )

    • @OneStopCoopShop
      @OneStopCoopShop  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Nope I did it right. You are thinking when you complete all of one color you get the black market effect. Poorly written rules I tell ya!

    • @teddyrynning5561
      @teddyrynning5561 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Not a fan of euros or worker placement games, but this one seems like it was made for me.

      @OneStopCoopShop  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I am with you Franck! This has never been a design type I particularly enjoy but this one does it well and the combos are so fun to pull off! I LOVE the idea of a hexcrawl/adventure game! I can see this!! HAHAHAHA

    • @kascally
      @kascally 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Castles of Burgundy has the most realistic combination of mechanics and theme that I have encountered. Other Euro games have too much mathematical calculation and abstraction. In CoB the short turns and the logic of trading, shipping goods, building, farming, hiring labourers, mining etc) all flow together like magic. Added to that, the frequency with which you hit a nice point combo is very rewarding. Absolutely classic game.

  • @claptrap22
    @claptrap22 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    Just got the game today and looking at the solo rules, you are _not_ supposed to take victory points when completing a color on your player board. Or am I misunderstanding something?...p. 14 "You won't gain a victory point bonus when you complete a color. Instead, choose a hex time from the black depot and place it directly on your duchy"

    • @OneStopCoopShop
      @OneStopCoopShop  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I had that same thought but that's completing ALL of the color. So all greens on the board. That is what i missed at the end of the video and made notes of. I hope that makes sense!

    • @m.p.6540
      @m.p.6540 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      In all Solomodus videos the people play it wrong. Could you not read the rules?

    • @BoardgameLiker
      @BoardgameLiker 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@OneStopCoopShopremember that in the multiplayer game you do not gain victory points for completing every hex of a single color. Instead you would gain the bonus point token. Therefore when they make the point that “you won’t gain a victory point bonus when you complete a color” they’re referring to the fact that you would normally score a victory point bonus for completing a color of 1-8 spaces.
      So you would in-fact gain a hex tile from the black market after completing a color section even if it is only one tile. This can result in some pretty great combos, but the fact that there are only 4 tiles available that way keeps it from being overpowered.

Usually you can sell from the storage for 1 silver and get points for each additional tiles. But in this game you only collect goods to be able to buy from the black market. "For some reason it's so fun to play". Probably because game mechanics are more important than theme and aesthetics?

    Hi, thanks for the explanation, I believe you made a few mistakes, correct me if I am wrong, but with the workers you can only add 1 or -1 to a dice, so you cannot convert a dice from a 1 to a 6 with only one worker, also in the marker , the hexes have to be flipped over so you don't know what you are purchasing when doing so, other than than thanks for explaining everything because it is really hard to learn this kinda game from reading, well for me anyways!

      @yellowmellow from 1 to 6 or 6 to 1 you can always change. It goes around like that. And the tiles on the market should be facing up, if not the game would be too much up to luck and loose its depth.

    To think everyone hated the colour scheme on the old version. This one looks too busy, too garish for my taste. At least on your camera, it might look beautiful in real life... but solo play would almost make it worth it!

    I still have soooo many questions. But I don’t know enough about the game to form the question in a way that would make sense. I own and play hundreds of games and this rule book the worst I’ve seen. It’s so abstract that nothing has any logic that I can lock on to and it assumes you know things about the iconography already (because it doesn’t explain some of it)
    Ugh. So frustrated. Your video is great and it cleared up some things for me but the rulebook, so far, is a lot of noise.
    I know I’ll love the game once I get all the nuance cleared up so I’ll stick with it, but I’ve never had so much trouble learning a game with such a small rulebook.
    Is it just me? It’s just me, right?

      Huh! I did not find this one a challenge but I certainly have felt this with other games!! I feel your pain!
